Parental Socio-Economic Status, Family Type And School Dropout In The Ewutu Educational Circuit Winneba, Ghana – Implication For Counseling, Pauline Edet, Ekeng Ekegre
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)
The researcher was motivated to carry out this research study following her keen interest to investigate influence of Parental Socio Economic Status family type on school dropout in the Ewutu Educational Circuit in Winneba township having observed that a great number of primary school pupils are often found roaming the streets in school uniforms during school hours. She also observed that a sizable number of school going age children are found hawking around, with babies tied behind their backs. The researcher became interested in investigating if Parental Socio Economic Status and the type of families these pupils come from do …

Leadership Philosophy And Practice Which Drive Improved Chemical Health Outcomes, Denise St. Peter Mcalpin
Leadership Philosophy And Practice Which Drive Improved Chemical Health Outcomes, Denise St. Peter Mcalpin
Theses and Graduate Projects
This research project is designed to identifo a relationship between a particular leadership style and the practice of leadership among outpatient chemical health treatment programs.
Client discharge outcome data obtained will help determine the most improved and the least irnproved treatment results specific to "use of chemicals" at the time of discharge.
The subjects will be asked to anonymously answer ten questions about leadership style, philosophy and practice in an attempt to determine if leadership plays a role in the client's outcorne measures.
Those surveyed will be asked to describe themselves using adjectives most associated with leadership theories developed by …

At The Foot Of The Shrew: Manus Morphology Distinguishes Closely-Related Cryptotis Goodwini And Cryptotis Griseoventris (Mammalia: Soricidae) In Central America, Neal Woodman, Ryan B. Stephens
United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications
Small-eared shrews (Mammalia, Soricidae) of the New World genus Cryptotis are distributed from eastern North America to the northern Andes of South America. One well-defined clade in this genus is the Central American Cryptotis mexicana group, whose members are set off from other species in the genus by their variably broader fore feet and more elongate and broadened fore claws. Two species in the C. mexicana group, Cryptotis goodwini Jackson and Cryptotis griseoventris Jackson, inhabit highlands in Guatemala and southern Mexico and are presumed to be sister species whose primary distinguishing feature is the larger body size of C. goodwini …
Predicting Adolescent Risk-Taking And Goal-Oriented Behaviors: An Ecological Perspective, Joshua Jon Tynan
Predicting Adolescent Risk-Taking And Goal-Oriented Behaviors: An Ecological Perspective, Joshua Jon Tynan
Wayne State University Dissertations
An important aspect of human development is adolescence. It has been well documented that adolescence is a time during which individuals partake in the greatest amount of risk-taking behaviors. These behaviors often include having unsafe sex, drug and alcohol use, smoking and recklessness. On the other hand, goal oriented behaviors are also developing, although these have been less well studied. The current study explored several key contexts that adolescents are concurrently exposed to, including parenting behaviors, peer relationships, religion, and media. The outcomes of interest were risk-taking behaviors and goal-oriented behaviors. Ultimately the purpose of this study was to compile, …
Burning And Bats: Fire’S Effect On The Endangered Indiana Bat, Christina Frame
Burning And Bats: Fire’S Effect On The Endangered Indiana Bat, Christina Frame
Joint Fire Science Program Briefs (2007-2012)
The spring prescribed burn window in the Central Hardwoods is short (usually April) and good burning days are few. The Daniel Boone National Forest (DBNF) prescribed fi re program is trying to regenerate oak ecosystems ahead of the arrival of gypsy moths in the region and the high overstory oak mortality that can result. If the burn window could be extended into the growing season (later spring), managers could control vegetation more effectively. However, the DBNF also serves as warm-season roosting habitat for the endangered Indiana bat, so burning into the growing season could potentially put the bats—and especially maternity …

A Gust Changes Everything: Local Wind Information In Unprecedented Detail With Windwizard And Windninja, Marjie Brown
Joint Fire Science Program Briefs (2007-2012)
Fire behavior model accuracy has suffered from a lack of specific information about how winds shift in direction and speed in mountainous terrain at fine scales. Before this project, fire managers lacked a tool that could provide realtime status of changing wind conditions at the scale of a specific ridge or drainage. This project resulted in two wind simulation tools that focus on this critical need: WindWizard and WindNinja. WindWizard, based on commercial computational fluid dynamics software, comes with a price tag and is computationally slower due to the complexity of the calculations it performs. WindNinja was developed as WindWizard’s …

Effect Of Pen Mates On Growth, Backfat Depth, And Longissimus Muscle Area Of Swine, W. L. Hsu, Rodger K. Johnson, L. Dale Van Vleck
Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications
Records on final BW (kg), backfat depth (cm), and LM area (cm2) of pigs from a University of Nebraska Large White/Landrace composite population were analyzed to estimate the effects of pen mates. Measurements were at approximately 180 d of age for 3,524 pigs in 351 pens (9 to 11 pigs per pen) farrowed from 1999 to 2005. The area of each pen was 8.13 m2. The full model (M1) included the fixed effects of contemporary group, sex, line, and the covariates of age and inbreeding coefficient, and included random direct genetic, genetic pen-mate, permanent environmental, pen, …

Feed Intake Of Sheep As Affected By Body Weight, Breed, Sex, And Feed Composition, R. M. Lewis, G. C. Emmans
Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications
The hypotheses tested were that genetic size-scaling for mature BW (A, kg) would reduce variation in intake between kinds of sheep and that quadratic polynomials on u = BW/A with zero intercept would provide good descriptions of the relationship between scaled intake (SI, g/A0.73 d) and degree of maturity in BW (u) across feeds of differing quality. Both sexes of Suffolk sheep from 2 experimental lines (n = 225) and from 3 breed types (Suffolk, Scottish Blackface, and their cross; n = 149) were recorded weekly for ad libitum feed intake and BW; recording of intake was from weaning through, …
What Feminists Have To Lose In Same-Sex Marriage Litigation, Mary Anne Case
What Feminists Have To Lose In Same-Sex Marriage Litigation, Mary Anne Case
Articles
This Article highlights both the rewards in accepting and the risks in rejecting a claim of sex discrimination as one constitutional basis for invalidating restrictions on marriage for same-sex couples. It argues that recognition of same-sex marriage and elimination of enforced sex roles are as inextricably intertwined as the duck is with the rabbit in the famous optical illusion. As the Article demonstrates, this has long been clear to opponents, from the pope to David Blankenhorn, but needs to become as clear to proponents and to judges deciding same-sex marriage cases if we are to preserve and extend the liberty …

English Language Learner Academic Engagement And Instructional Grouping Configurations, Kathryn Brooks, Linda P. Thurston
Scholarship and Professional Work – Education
This study used and ecobehavioral approach to investigate the conditional probability that English language learning (ELL) students would engage in academic tasks in urban middle school content area classrooms within different instructional grouping configurations. These configurations included whole class, small group, one-to-one, and individual instructions. The participants in the study included 28 native Spanish-speaking students who were all identified as being English language learners (ELL). The findings on this study indicate that participants were most likely to engage in academic tasks during small group and one-to-one instruction. They were least likely to engage in academic tasks during whole class and …

La Caja De Pandora: Improving Access To Hospice Care Among Hispanic And African-American Patients, Kathy L. Cerminara, Alina M. Perez
Faculty Scholarship
Many patients clinging to hope in the form of potentially curative treatment could benefit from hospice services, but, for the most part, it is not until the patient accepts the finality of his or her condition that the physical, psychological and social benefits of hospice care become accessible to the patient and his or her family. Under current Medicare regulations and other health care payers’ policies, patients must abandon the hope of curative treatment before opting for hospice services. As a result, many terminally ill patients access the services late, sometimes a few hours before death. Scholars have proposed that …
