Facts: The appellant was arrested on suspicion of membership in an illegal organization, and had been the subject of: a. a decision by the authority in charge to postpone the appellant’s first meeting with an attorney by three days; and b. a decision, rendered two days after his arrest, to extend his detention by an additional ten days. The Jerusalem District Court rejected the state’s request to have the appeal of the detention extension decision deliberated in the absence of the appellant; and the state successfully appealed that decision to the Supreme Court. The appeal against the extension of the …

Special Education ETDs
This qualitative study examines the experiences of family members who participated as Family Faculty in the Families as Faculty program. All of these family members were primary caregivers for students with disabilities. Families as Faculty is part of some of the teacher preparation programs at universities in New Mexico. Three research questions were explored. First, why do families choose to participate in this program? Second, what are the benefits and challenges they experience as participants in the program? And finally, what about their experience influences their decision to continue or terminate their participation in the program? Data were collected through …

Hispanos In The Valley Of Death: Street-Level Trauma, Cultural-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Overdoses, And Suicides In North Central New Mexico, W. Azul La Luz Baez
Sociology ETDs
New Mexico has had the highest per capita drug overdose death rate in the United States, about 18 per 100,000, for more than ten years — 1995 to 2006. The USA's rates for the same period are about 5 per 100,000. North Central New Mexico (the Valley) has the highest per capita 'accidental drug overdose' death rate in all of New Mexico ranging from 42 to 72 per 1000,000 over the course of the eleven years examined, from 1995 to 2006. What are the differences and similarities between victims of 'accidental drug overdoses' and suicide victims in the Valley (as …

Women’S Risk Factors And Their Contributions To Existing Risk/Needs Assessment: The Current Status Of A Gender-Responsive Supplement, Patricia Van Voorhis, Emily M. Wright, Emily J. Salisbury, Ashley Bauman
Criminology and Criminal Justice Faculty Publications
A growing body of scholarship faults existing risk/needs assessment models for neglecting the risk factors most relevant to women offenders. In response, a series of gender-responsive assessment models were tested for their contributions to widely used gender-neutral risk needs assessments. In six of eight samples studied, subsets of the gender-responsive scales achieved statistically significant contributions to gender-neutral models. Promising results were found for the following: (a) parental stress, family support, self-efficacy, educational assets, housing safety, anger/hostility, and current mental health factors in probation samples; (b) child abuse, anger/hostility, relationship dysfunction, family support, and current mental health factors among prisoners; and …

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The traditional education system in the United States developed a goal of sending a high number of students to post secondary schools. The expectation of going to college starts at elementary school and continues through high school and is pushed by the school district’s hierarchy. Schools annually publish numbers through the Department of Education at state and national levels of students moving to college. College progression has become such a priority that many students feel they have failed if not college bound.
Students not considered academic often move toward vocational education with the intent of post-secondary education to support a …

Background: Migration of health professionals from low and middle income countries to rich countries is a large scale and long-standing phenomenon, which is detrimental to the health systems in the donor countries. We sought to explore the extent of psychiatric migration.
Methods: In our study, we use the respective professional databases in each country to establish the numbers of psychiatrists currently registered in the UK, US, New Zealand, and Australia who originate from other countries. We also estimate the impact of this migration on the psychiatrist population ratios in the donor countries.
Findings: We document large numbers of psychiatrists currently …

Examining Violent And Property Crimes In The Provinces Of Turkey For The Years Of 2000 And 2007, Mus Ekrem
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation explores the relationship between social, economical, and demographic variables and reported violent and property crime incidents in the provinces of Turkey between 2000 and 2007. The data on violent and property crimes comes from Turkish National Police. All other variables are secondary data gathered from open sources and Turkstat. The research is one of the first studies to examine this relationship in Turkey. The findings of the study suggest that family disruption rate and gross domestic product were significantly related to the violent crime rate while family disruption rate, gross domestic product, population, population density, and urbanization rate …
