A Model For Easily Incorporating Team-Based Learning Into Nursing Education, Heidi A. Mennenga, Tish Smyer
A Model For Easily Incorporating Team-Based Learning Into Nursing Education, Heidi A. Mennenga, Tish Smyer
College of Nursing Faculty Publications
A sense of urgency exists among nurse educators to determine the best possible teaching strategies to create a rich, engaging learning environment for students. With the calls for transformation, innovation, and excellence in nursing education from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, and the National League for Nursing, educators may determine that current teaching strategies fall short. Team-based learning, an innovative teaching strategy, offers educators a structured, student-centered learning environment and may be effective in teaching necessary skills to students. An overview of how this strategy fosters many of the essential …
Getting In The Game: Out On The Landscape Without Leaving Your Desk With Gnnviz, Marjie Brown
Getting In The Game: Out On The Landscape Without Leaving Your Desk With Gnnviz, Marjie Brown
Joint Fire Science Program Briefs (2007-2012)
This project used computer game technology to create highly interactive forest data visualization and interaction not possible with the traditional geographic information system approach. Known as GNNViz (Gradient Nearest Neighbor Vegetation Map Visualization), the program was developed by applying it to three large regions in the western U.S., though it’s readily extended to additional landscapes and spatial data formats. Developers leveraged the superior capabilities of video game technology to render realistic 3D environments and allow multiple users to interact with each other in a shared environment. Real time rendering allows users to move about and explore huge areas of terrain …

Pigmentation patterning has long interested biologists, integrating topics in ecology, development, genetics, and physiology. Wild-type neonatal larvae of the silkworm, Bombyx mori, are completely black. By contrast, the epidermis and head of larvae of the homozygous recessive sex-linked chocolate (sch) mutant are reddish brown. When incubated at 30 °C, mutants with the sch allele fail to hatch; moreover, homozygous mutants carrying the allele sch lethal (schl) do not hatch even at room temperature (25 °C). By positional cloning, we narrowed a region containing sch to 239,622 bp on chromosome 1 using 4,501 backcross (BC1) …

Through A Glass Darkly: Using Brain Science And Visual Rhetoric To Gain A Professional Perspective On Visual Advocacy, Lucille A. Jewel
Scholarly Works
American legal culture, tracking the trend within the media culture as a whole, has become inherently more visual. Visual competency is now required for effective persuasion in the courtroom and in a variety of other advocacy settings. The central thesis of this Article is that visual advocacy is here to stay, but that there is a large knowledge gap that prevents advocates from being able to evaluate the professionalism of their own visual arguments and properly respond to the visual arguments submitted by their opposing counsel.
Accordingly, this Article offers a detailed outline of the knowledge bases that attorneys need …

Utilization Of Graphic Organizers In Teaching Mathematics, Ma. Betty P. Decin
CNU Journal of Higher Education
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of graphic organizers in teaching Mathematics to college students of JRMSU during the first semester, school year 2009-2010. Researcher-made tests were used to measure the frequency of graphic organizer use by 43 algebra instructors and the effect on the performance of 339 students. The statistical tools used were mean computations, t-test, and Pearson r Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. There was a significant relationship between instructors’ utilization of graphic organizers and the students’ skills in Mathematics. The use of graphic organizers in other subject areas or departments, and the conduct of more researches both …
A Location Aware P2p Voice Communication Protocol For Networked Virtual Environments, Gabor Papp
A Location Aware P2p Voice Communication Protocol For Networked Virtual Environments, Gabor Papp
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Multiparty voice communication, where multiple people can communicate in a group, is an important component of networked virtual environments (NVEs), especially in many types of online games. While most research has been conducted on one-to-one communication, we focus on group communication. In this dissertation, we present the first measurement study on the characteristics of multiparty voice communications and develop a model of the talking and silence periods observed during multiparty communication. Over a total of 5 months, we measured over 11,000 sessions on an active multi-party voice communication server to quantify the characteristics of communication generated by game players, including …

Woven Images: All Techniques Considered, Tommye Mcclure Scanlin
Woven Images: All Techniques Considered, Tommye Mcclure Scanlin
Textile Society of America: Symposium Proceedings
What motivates an artist to create images using textile media? What weaving techniques are suitable for image making? Weavers through the ages have taken colored weft threads in hand and inserted them into the warp, row-by-row, building shape upon shape in the powerful and nuanced, yet structurally simple, technique of weft-faced tapestry. With the invention of the jacquard loom, the kind of complex image making that was previously only common in tapestry weaving became mechanized, and available on a commercial level that involved faster production rates, lower costs and the creation of multiples. In recent years, the innovations in, and …
Leadership In Higher Education: Handling Faculty Resistance To Technology Through Strategic Planning, Kelli Mcbride
Leadership In Higher Education: Handling Faculty Resistance To Technology Through Strategic Planning, Kelli Mcbride
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)
People often recognize leadership in the concrete, mostly by identifying an effective or ineffective leader, but they have a much more difficult time explaining leadership in the abstract – what qualities result in transformational and visionary leadership. Often this lack of understanding does not surface until a crisis or challenge arises in an organization, when a gap occurs between what is and what should be. Higher education faces such challenges, and it needs transformational leadership, especially concerning faculty resistance to technology (Buckley, 2002; Hagner, 2000; Moore, Fowler, & Watson, 2007; Scott, 2003). As many organizations see online learning as their …
