Symbolism And Art, Sylvia Swoboda
Symbolism And Art, Sylvia Swoboda
Theses and Dissertations
I am interested in communication through symbolism. The symbols that I incorporate in my mixed media work are simplified into essential lines and shapes. I use the Kabbalah’s Tree of Life diagram as a structure to hold my own personal symbols. These symbols are my interpretation of the phases of life. I also use prehistoric symbols such as the spiral, circle, square, triangle, and cross as a focus to emphasize the beauty of these very basic lines and shapes which we see all around our world. To emphasize the beauty of symbols I use repetition, color, and texture. Life is …

Study On Developing A Potential Way-Finding Map Design Of An Iphone & Ipod Web Application For Rochester Institute Of Technology (Rit) Library, Jeong Kim
Theses
Have you ever wondered how many wall maps are actually used as "maps" rather than as decoration? Have you ever had trouble finding your way around small areas? Have you ever had a hard time finding brochures, even when they're displayed right at the entry or on the first floor of a building? Since the beginning of human civilization, wayfinding systems have been developed as tools to deliver information and assist people seeking routes or specific locations. Updates to new technologies have allowed vast quantities of information of varying quality to become a huge part of our lives. However, signs …

Research Expression through Art : Visual Studies Faculty
The works in this exhibition are part of two larger series of work, both of which are ongoing: the Reciprocal Interference project (互涉) and Time with the Sky (與天共度的時光).
The Reciprocal Interference project consists of two-person collaborative works by Carol Archer and artist-friends Sue Rawlinson, Sue Taylor, Johanna Trainor (Australia), Mary Grehan (Ireland) and Even Mak (Hong Kong). The Time with the Sky series of charcoal and watercolour drawings was begun during Archer’s residency at Bundanon, Australia in July 2009. Australian artist Arthur Boyd and his family gave their home, a splendid property on the banks of the Shoalhaven River, …

Theses
This thesis explores preservation and obsolescence in relation to memory and the family photograph. Through a variety of erasure processes applied to discarded vernacular imagery and projections, the artist manipulated the content, framing and perspective of alleged family memories. The specific techniques utilized include digital erasure, removal by cutting implements, targeted bleaching and the re-photographing of projected Kodachromes into selective fragments. This process facilitated the investigation of the relationship between family photographs, formation of individual memory and the life cycle of family narrative. This work raises questions about the normative sociological factors at play in memory preservation and the constructed …

In this research, through experiments, we show that incongruity of color between mediums has positive influence on brand attitude in terms of integrated management of brand. We also present that self-image congruence of `brand-consumer` has moderating effect on such influence of color incongruity. Mediums were limited to the ones that magnifying visual influence in order only to observe influence of color. With the same reason, visual factors other than color were coherently set or held constant and we chose brands with either low familarity or no previous knowledge. As a result, we find that brand attitude by the incongruity of …
