Articles

The structures of [Cu(AA)6](ClO4)2, (I), and [Mn(AA)6](ClO4)2, (II) (AA is acrylamide, also known as prop-2-enamide; C3H5NO), display both intra- and intermolecular N-H...O hydrogen bonding. A three-dimensional network is propagated via the perchlorate counter-ions. There are two crystallographically independent molecules in the copper complex, with the most significant difference between them being the conformation of one symmetry-related pair of AA ligands which are in the unusual syn conformation. The copper complex exhibits syn/anti disorder of the =CH2 group in one pair of symmetry-related AA ligands. The CuII and MnII centres are both situated on centres of inversion. The copper complex cation …

Partnership For The Americas: Western Hemisphere Strategy And U.S. Southern Command, James G. Stavridis Nov 2010

Partnership For The Americas: Western Hemisphere Strategy And U.S. Southern Command, James G. Stavridis

Books

Since its creation in 1963, United States Southern Command has been led by 30 senior officers representing all four of the armed forces. None has undertaken his leadership responsibilities with the cultural sensitivity and creativity demonstrated by Admiral Jim Stavridis during his tenure in command.

Breaking with tradition, Admiral Stavridis discarded the customary military model as he organized the Southern Command Headquarters. In its place he created an organization designed not to subdue adversaries, but instead to build durable and enduring partnerships with friends. His observation that it is the business of Southern Command to launch “ideas not missiles” into …

Global Commons And Domain Interrelationships: Time For A New Conceptual Framework?, Mark E. Redden, Michael P. Hughes Nov 2010

Global Commons And Domain Interrelationships: Time For A New Conceptual Framework?, Mark E. Redden, Michael P. Hughes

Strategic Forums

This Strategic Forum argues that U.S. national security strategy must evolve to address challenges across the global commons — including the sea, air, space, and cyber domains — which are increasingly contested by state and non-state actors. The authors propose a new conceptual framework for understanding domain interrelationships and how operations in one domain can affect access and security in others. By emphasizing assured access and cross-domain integration, the paper outlines strategic and policy implications for defense planning, operational readiness, and long-term deterrence in an interconnected global threat environment.

Current Status And Long-Term Trends In Water Quality And Living Resources In The Virginia Tributaries And Chesapeake Bay Mainstem From 1985 Through 2009, Daniel M. Dauer, Harold G. Marshall, John R. Donat, Michael F. Lane, Suzanne C. Doughten, Frederick A. Hoffman, Raghavendra Kurada

Status and Trends for Virginia Chesapeake Bay

The period prior to the implementation of the Chesapeake Bay Monitoring Program was characterized by a marked decline in the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay. The disappearance of submerged aquatic vegetation in certain regions of the Bay, declines in the abundance of some commercially and recreationally important species, increases in the incidence of low dissolved oxygen events, changes in the Bay's food web, and other ecological problems have been related to the deteriorating water quality (e.g. USEPA, 1982,1983;Officer et al.,1984; Orth and Moore, 1984). The results of concentrated research efforts in the late 1970s and early 1980s stimulated the …

How Shall I Praise Thee? Brian Leiter On Respect For Religion, Andrew Koppelman Nov 2010

How Shall I Praise Thee? Brian Leiter On Respect For Religion, Andrew Koppelman

San Diego Law Review

In two recent papers, Brian Leiter argues that there is no good reason for law to single out religion for special treatment and religion is not an apt candidate for respect in the "thick" sense of being an object of favorable appraisal. Special treatment would be appropriate only if there were some "moral reason why states should carve out special protections that encourage individuals to structure their lives around categorical demands that are insulated from the standards of evidence and reasoning we everywhere else expect to constitute constraints on judgment and action." Favorable appraisal would be called for "[o]nly if …

Determining Effect Of Website Usability And Satisfaction Loyality And Positive Word-Of-Mouth : Malaysia Internet Banking., Tan Hui Lee

Student Works (2010-2019)
