Automatic Evaluation Of Mobile Web Pages, Ankita Sehgal
Automatic Evaluation Of Mobile Web Pages, Ankita Sehgal
Computer Science
The use of mobile devices to access the information on the World Wide Web is growing rapidly. The growth has created a surge in the number of webpages being designed for mobile devices. In order to support efficient mobile browsing, some markup languages (e.g., WML and XHTML Mobile Profile) and standards (Mobile Web Best Practices) have been developed to specifically support the rendering of information on mobile devices. Evaluating the mobile webpages manually against the guidelines requires a tremendous amount of work. This research paper focuses on automatic evaluation of mobile webpages, a process which offers many advantages in terms …
Dynamic Algorithms For Sensor Scheduling And Adversary Path Prediction, Shivendushital Pyarelal Pandey
Dynamic Algorithms For Sensor Scheduling And Adversary Path Prediction, Shivendushital Pyarelal Pandey
Computer Science
In this thesis we describe three new dynamic, real time and robust sensor scheduling algorithms for intruder tracking and sensor scheduling. We call them Tactic Association Based Algorithm (TABA), Tactic Case Based Algorithm (TCBA) and Tactic Weight Based Algorithm (TWBA). The algorithms are encoded, illustrated visually, validated, and tested. The aim of the algorithms is to efficiently track an intruder or multiple intruders while minimizing energy usage in the sensor network by using real time event driven sensor scheduling. What makes these intrusion detection schemes different from other intrusion detection schemes in the literature is the use of historical data …
A Technique To Detect A Black Hole In Ad Hoc Networks, Vijay Anand Suravarapu
A Technique To Detect A Black Hole In Ad Hoc Networks, Vijay Anand Suravarapu
Computer Science
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are important because they are widely used in war zones, rescue missions and other civilian applications where it is almost impossible to use any other networks. MANETs are temporary networks where nodes are allowed to join or leave the network at any point in ~ime. Though MANETs offer flexibility, self maintenance and dynamic topology, they suffer from limited resources, have less computational power and are susceptible to attacks. Due to the dynamic nature of MANETs, the secure transmission of data is one of the key issues in MANETs. Thus there is a need to safeguard …

Computer Science
lmmersive Virtual Environments (IVEs) for education are designed and implemented to enable students to learn complicated concepts in an exploratory and inquiry based manner. The environments are constructed so that multiple users can interact with the educational simulation and learn to think like a scientist. Developing these IVEs requires a multi-disciplinary development team that consists of more than just software engineers. It requires content experts to provide the information needed to create the best and most interactive lessons possible. While some content experts have a strong interest in technology and are capable of working with the development environment directly, many …
Recruiting Through Identification: Identification Strategies And Tactics Used In External Higher Education Strategic Communication, Dana Raye Anderson
Recruiting Through Identification: Identification Strategies And Tactics Used In External Higher Education Strategic Communication, Dana Raye Anderson
Computer Science
This exploratory study examines higher education strategic communication for identification inducement strategies and tactics using Cheney's (1983) typology as a guiding framework. The study also explores the differences in identification inducement strategies and tactics used between traditional public universities and for-profit online educators. The results of a deductive textual analysis indicate that identification inducement strategies are used in higher education strategic communication designed to recruit students, an external audience with a reverse paid relationship with the organization. A new strategy and two tactics are added to Cheney's typology to fully account for the identification appeals identified.
Outlier Identification In Sensor Network Clock Synchronization, William Davis Voorhees
Outlier Identification In Sensor Network Clock Synchronization, William Davis Voorhees
Computer Science
We first present a survey of clock synchronization research that describes the problem and various challenges to implementing an efficient protocol for clock synchronization in sensor networks. We then present several changes to an existing protocol that we believe will enhance the accuracy. These changes are implemented in a software simulation and a large experiment is conducted that involves several runs of the simulation using various parameters for error bounds and outlier detection. We present our results and show that modifying the outlier detection range used by many existing algorithms can improve network clock accuracy and provide a stabilized average …

In this paper, we present a unique approach to solve the Neutralization of Conflict Areas problem using an Ant Colony Optimization technique. The Neutralization of Conflict Areas is a known problem, and over the years, considerable research has been conducted to find strategies [7] to solve the problem. To effectively deal with this kind of problem, many search algorithms and techniques have been proposed. The Ant Colony Optimization technique has been very successful in solving problems such as the travelling salesman problem, vehicle routing problem, and routing and scheduling problems. The suggested approach to the problem presented here is to …
Emerging Public International Banking Law? Lessons From The Law Of The Sea Experience, Barbara C. Matthews
Emerging Public International Banking Law? Lessons From The Law Of The Sea Experience, Barbara C. Matthews
Chicago Journal of International Law
During the twentieth century, the law of the sea had been criticized as having a democratic deficit because the customary standards articulated in treaty-based codifications deprived modern and newer nation-states from participating in the standard-setting process.4 Some might suggest that therefore the law of the sea does not provide the best example for modern global normative processes. This Article does not opine on the merits of the democratic deficit debate regarding the law of the sea. This Article instead asserts that the modern global normative process in the financial sector area composed of the G20 and its observers (the international …
Legal Ethics In International Criminal Defense, Jenia Iontcheva Turner
Legal Ethics In International Criminal Defense, Jenia Iontcheva Turner
Chicago Journal of International Law
I argue that distinctive features of international criminal courts and prosecutions suggest a more flexible approach to the ethical norms governing defense advocacy, closer to that embodied by the Model Rules. Moreover, I suggest that international criminal courts should promulgate guidelines which convey to defense attorneys that particular aggressive practices are not required by ethical duties and that such practices may be more inconsistent than consistent with good defense lawyering. I do not propose additional rules that would absolutely prohibit such practices in international courts. Nor do I suggest that defense attorneys should ever fail to diligently and zealously represent …
Adaptive Architecture: Design For A Declining Global Population, Brian Sommerfeld
Adaptive Architecture: Design For A Declining Global Population, Brian Sommerfeld
Architecture Theses
In the face of a declining human population, our ability to plan for and adapt to future circumstances will be essential if we, as a global community, are to not only preserve our built environment, but also ensure its continued growth in a responsible manner. We cannot afford to ignore or be indifferent to the issue of population decline. And while it will require the cooperation and coordination of a large number of groups to develop a comprehensive plan, we as architects and members of the design community have a responsibility to develop our own set of criteria that will …
Space Age Love Song: The Mix Tape In A Digital Universe, Megan M. Carpenter
Space Age Love Song: The Mix Tape In A Digital Universe, Megan M. Carpenter
Faculty Scholarship
Mix tapes are the classic, iconic form of music sharing. Mix tape creators of the past believed they were making a piece of art larger than the sum of its parts. And even in the face of technological development so rapid and far-reaching as to remove the literal "tape" from "mix tape," there are nonetheless modem incarnations that crop up on a regular basis, from mix CDs to mix-sharing websites. The technology is different, but the song remains the same.
Rapid Evaluation Of Canola Lines For Cold Soak Filterability In Biodiesel, Hongjian Lin
Rapid Evaluation Of Canola Lines For Cold Soak Filterability In Biodiesel, Hongjian Lin
Agribusiness and Biosystems Engineering
Worldwide concerns about fossil fuel depletion and energy security have recently triggered a research interest in biodiesel, which is renewable, biodegradable, and has several other advantages as an alternative to petro diesel. However, biodiesel may cause engine problems, especially fuel filter plugging, associated with its use in cold weather conditions. Trace contaminants such as glycerin, saturated monoglycerides (SMG), and soap compromise cold weather performance of biodiesel. A cold soak filtration test was recently included in the U.S. specifications for biodiesel (ASTM D 6751-09) to evaluate biodiesel cold weather performance. Canola seed has good potential to be a locally important biodiesel …

Adult Children Of Alcoholics' Perceptions Of Communicative Exchanges With Family Members And Outsiders, Kerry Byrnes
Adult Children Of Alcoholics' Perceptions Of Communicative Exchanges With Family Members And Outsiders, Kerry Byrnes
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Millions of children grow up in alcoholic homes. For these children, their lives are changed forever. As a result of being socialized in a home in which at least one parent is an alcoholic, the children suffer with a number of negative consequences. Children of alcoholics (COAs) have cognitive difficulty and often do not excel in scholastic endeavors. It is also difficult for COAs to form lasting relationships with others outside the family. Because they are often socialized in a home in which secrecy is advocated, creating relationships and fully disclosing about experiences proves to be challenging. As a result, …
State Spatial Practices And Uneven Development: Flexible Rescaling In Appalachia, Jacquelyn Jordon Core
State Spatial Practices And Uneven Development: Flexible Rescaling In Appalachia, Jacquelyn Jordon Core
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Geographic theories regarding uneven development, including Neil Smith's convergence of Marxist theory and spatial development and David Harvey's development of scalar fix and later conceptual development of the process of capital accumulation, historically have focused primarily on how and why uneven development occurs. Research to date has provided only a cursory examination of what role, if any, the state plays in impacting uneven development, has not endeavored to characterize the state as an active, purposeful spatial player in the process of uneven development, and has not conceptualized how the state impacts uneven development through spatial practices, if the state does …

On The Mechanisms Underlying Neural Repression By E(Spl)M8 In Drosophila, Bhaskar Kahali
On The Mechanisms Underlying Neural Repression By E(Spl)M8 In Drosophila, Bhaskar Kahali
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Notch signaling is an evolutionary conserved pathway that mediates binary cell-fate specification throughout animal development. Through a process termed lateral inhibition, Notch signaling drives two equipotent cells to adopt distinct fates. Binary cell-fate determination has been exceptionally well studied during Drosophila neurogenesis, particularly, in eye and bristle development. In the eye, Notch mediates the selection of R8 photoreceptors from clusters of R8 precursors by antagonizing the activity of the proneural activator Atonal (Ato). In the bristle, Notch drives the selection of the sensory organ precursors (SOP's) from a group of equipotential cells that expressed the proneural activators encoded by the …

Investigating The Potential Of Rna To Be Used In Forensic Casework Analysis, Tiffany Lynn Smith
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
With the advent of quantitative reverse-transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction, RNA has increasingly become an invaluable tool to forensic science investigations. For instance, previous studies have shown that the age of a biological stain could be estimated using differential decay rates of different RNA segments, providing a temporal link between the suspect and the crime. By co-isolating RNA and DNA from the same sample, both a genetic profile and various other analyses can be conducted. RNA samples are frequently treated with DNase prior to analysis to rid samples of contaminating DNA. Although all manufacturers of DNase claim no loss of …
