Prediction Of Shock Diamonds And Mach Disk In An Under-Expanded Air Jet, Praveen D. Malali
Prediction Of Shock Diamonds And Mach Disk In An Under-Expanded Air Jet, Praveen D. Malali
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Theses & Dissertations
The present study involves performing simulations, using the commercially available CFD code Fluent, to obtain under-expanded jet flow structures for different values of nozzle pressure ratio (NPR). A fluid flow domain comprised of a converging nozzle attached to a plenum chamber is discretized, using triangular cells, in the pre-processing software Gambit, companion software to Fluent. The test of grid independence is carried out by performing simulations for NPR value of 10 using three discretized flow domains, referred to as a mesh or a grid, with varying cell numbers. Two models, namely the inviscid compressible flow model, employing Euler equations, and …

Development Of A Tool For Windfarm Site Analysis In Electrical Networks With High Levels Of Wind Power Generation, Edward Carroll, John Mcgrory
Development Of A Tool For Windfarm Site Analysis In Electrical Networks With High Levels Of Wind Power Generation, Edward Carroll, John Mcgrory
Dissertations
Controlling electrical networks that contain high levels of wind power will be a challenge facing many System Operators in the coming years. The intermittency and uncertainty of the power supplied by wind turbines create difficulties surrounding scheduling of plant, operating reserve and grid integration. The current process for windfarm selection is carried out by an individual stakeholder and lacks the consideration for all other stakeholders involved, which can create problems in the long term when the levels of wind power increase on the network. This paper proposes a collective approach to analysing potential windfarm sites using the key factors which …

Modeling 3d Facial Expressions Using Geometry Videos, Jiazhi Xia, Ying He, Dao T. P. Quynh, Xiaoming Chen, Steven C. H. Hoi
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
The significant advances in developing high-speed shape acquisition devices make it possible to capture the moving and deforming objects at video speeds. However, due to its complicated nature, it is technically challenging to effectively model and store the captured motion data. In this paper, we present a set of algorithms to construct geometry videos for 3D facial expressions, including hole filling, geodesic-based face segmentation, and expression-invariant parametrization. Our algorithms are efficient and robust, and can guarantee the exact correspondence of the salient features (eyes, mouth and nose). Geometry video naturally bridges the 3D motion data and 2D video, and provides …
Engaging Emerging Populations Of Adults With Interactive Activities In A 3d Virtual Learning Environment, Kristin Woods
Engaging Emerging Populations Of Adults With Interactive Activities In A 3d Virtual Learning Environment, Kristin Woods
Journal of Extension
The Internet, particularly 3D virtual learning environments, has become a venue of choice for many young adults who have grown up in a period of rapidly advancing technology. With this in mind, a 3D virtual kitchen was created to instruct foodservice staff about foodborne hazards. Respondents reported positively about their user experience, the educational content, and the social aspects of the module. The results of this pilot project indicate that engaging young adults with a media in which they feel comfortable is feasible.
Using A Market Segmentation Approach To Better Target Agricultural Extension Programs—Aligning Learner Needs With Learning Programs, Margaret Brown, Denise Bewsell
Using A Market Segmentation Approach To Better Target Agricultural Extension Programs—Aligning Learner Needs With Learning Programs, Margaret Brown, Denise Bewsell
Journal of Extension
Agricultural Extension has traditionally been based on the assumption that farmers' have similar learning needs and styles, whatever the subject matter. In this article we argue that undertaking market segmentation can greatly enhance the value of the Extension program by better aligning participant needs with program objectives and delivery modes. We outline a case study from New Zealand where market segmentation was used to inform the design of an Extension program for sheep and beef farmers on feed planning. A series of four differentiated workshops were developed. Early evaluation indicates that this approach is well received by farmers.
Dispersion Of Cytotoxic Properties Of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Suspended In Biological Solutions With Tween 80: Their Role In Enhancing Killing Effects Of Nanosecond Pulse Electric Fields On Tumor Cell Lines, Bhargava S. Kalluri
Biological Sciences Theses & Dissertations
The objective of this study was to determine whether multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) suspended in the surfactant Tween 80 give an additive killing effect on tumor cells when exposed to nsPEFs. In this study, MWCNTs were suspended in DMEM and RPMI with or without T80 (surfactant). The size distribution of MWCNTs suspended in these solutions was evaluated with a Delsa™ Nano Zeta potential and sub micro particle Size Analyzer and confirmed with microscopy. The cytotoxicity of MWCNTs dispersed in different concentrations of T80 was evaluated in PANC1 (Human pancreatic cancer cell line) and Jurkat cell lines (Human T-cell lymphoblast cell …

"Macabre Parables: The 'Slasher' Film As Morality Play", Brad Scott Pierce
Theses and Dissertations
Many film genres have experienced their periods of popularity and eventual fallout, some to their demise. The horror genre, on the other hand, has never lost its audience. Many times, critics have declared horror "dead" and yet have been amazed to see its resurgence again. What makes terror so much fun for America? This project seeks to understand the continual popularity of the often maligned genre known as "horror" and asks if there are rhetorical implications in these films that reach far beyond exploitation. Does horror tap into certain religious paradigms that have spiritual resonance within our American culture? Do …
