Subsidiary Perspective Of Coordination Mechanisms On Localization Decisions, Working Environment, Marketing Engagement And New Product Performance, Firmanzah Firmanzah

Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia

New product launching (NPL) to the local market by subsidiary managers is a strategic activity, which requires organizational supports from MNC global network. The NPL activity is marked by high level of uncertainty, risk, and market failure. Thus, a headquarter needs to integrate the subsidiary NPL into the global strategy. At the same time, subsidiary managers need to have a certain level of autonomy to ensure that the launching program is adapted to the local specificities. These two pressures have forced the subsidiary managers to take up the roles of ‘boundary spanners’. Good working environment between subsidiaries’ managers and headquarter …

Closed-Form Expression Of Self/Mutual Power-Bus Impedances In A Finite Circular Plate Pair, Yao Jiang Zhang, Er Ping Li, Jun Fan

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The drawbacks of conventional power-bus impedance, defined as an average Green's function integration over port areas, are discussed. a new definition is proposed in terms of cylindrical waves. the equivalence of the new definition and the conventional one is proved in the case of electrically small ports. Addition theorems of cylindrical waves are used to derive an analytical expression of power-bus impedance between ports in a circular plate pair with perfectly electric/magnetic conductor (PEC/PMC) boundaries as well as non-reflective perfectly matched layer (PML) for infinite plate pair. Numerical method has been used to validate the analytical expression derived.

Duol: A Double Updating Approach For Online Learning, Peilin Zhao, Steven C. H. Hoi, Rong Jin Dec 2009

Duol: A Double Updating Approach For Online Learning, Peilin Zhao, Steven C. H. Hoi, Rong Jin

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In most online learning algorithms, the weights assigned to the misclassified examples (or support vectors) remain unchanged during the entire learning process. This is clearly insufficient since when a new misclassified example is added to the pool of support vectors, we generally expect it to affect the weights for the existing support vectors. In this paper, we propose a new online learning method, termed Double Updating Online Learning, or DUOL for short. Instead of only assigning a fixed weight to the misclassified example received in current trial, the proposed online learning algorithm also tries to update the weight for one …

Learning Bregman Distance Functions And Its Application For Semi-Supervised Clustering, Lei Wu, Rong Jin, Steven C. H. Hoi, Jianke Zhu, Nenghai Yu

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Learning distance functions with side information plays a key role in many machine learning and data mining applications. Conventional approaches often assume a Mahalanobis distance function. These approaches are limited in two aspects: (i) they are computationally expensive (even infeasible) for high dimensional data because the size of the metric is in the square of dimensionality; (ii) they assume a fixed metric for the entire input space and therefore are unable to handle heterogeneous data. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme that learns nonlinear Bregman distance functions from side information using a nonparametric approach that is similar to …

Background and purpose: The cerebral volume of T2-hyperintense white matter (HWM) is an important neuroimaging marker of cerebral integrity. Pathophysiology studies identified that subcortical and ependymal HWM are produced by 2 different mechanisms but shared a common risk factor: high arterial pulse pressure. Recent studies have demonstrated high heritability of the whole-brain HMW volume and reported significant and suggestive evidence of genetic linkage. We performed heritability and whole-genome linkage analysis to replicate previous reported findings and to study shared genetic variance, and possible overlap for specific loci, between subcortical and ependymal HWM volumes in a population of healthy Mexican Americans. …
