A High-Yield Synthesis Of Chalcopyrite Cuins2 Nanoparticles With Exceptional Size Control, Aaron Thurber, Alex Punnoose
Physics Faculty Publications and Presentations
We report high-yield and efficient size-controlled syntheses of Chalcopyrite CuInS2 nanoparticles by decomposing molecular single source precursors (SSPs) via microwave irradiation in the presence of 1,2-ethanedithiol at reaction temperatures as low as 100◦C and times as short as 30 minutes. The nanoparticles sizes were 1.8nm to 10.8 nm as reaction temperatures were varied from 100◦C to 200◦C with the bandgaps from 2.71 eV to 1.28 eV with good size control and high yields (64%–95%). The resulting nanoparticles were analyzed by XRD, UV-Vis, ICP-OES, XPS, SEM, EDS, and HRTEM. Titration studies by 1H NMR using SSP 1 with 1,2-ethanedithiol …

Facts: This is a petition to allow free movement of Palestinian vehicles and pedestrians along Road 443 and on the Beituniya Road. In 2002, Road 443, which served as the main traffic artery for the Palestinian residents of the area between the villages in the area and Ramallah, was closed to all Palestinian traffic. This closure was ordered following the numerous terrorist attacks that were perpetrated along the Road. The arguments related to the question of the authority of the military commander to order the restriction of traffic on the Road in general, and closure of the Road to Palestinians …
Changes Voter Approval Requirement For Local Education Special Taxes To 55% From Two-Thirds So Long As Accountability Requirements Met. Initiative Constitutional Amendment.
Initiatives
Changes voter approval requirement to 55% from two-thirds for local education special taxes when tax is proposed by two-thirds of school district's governing board. Allows 55% vote only when certain "accountability requirements" are satisfied. Limits any such tax proposal to $250 per parcel of real property per year, adjusted annually for inflation. Exempts parcels owned and occupied by persons age 65 or older. Prohibits state from taking tax revenues and requires independent audits and citizens' oversight committees. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Increases in school parcel tax …

Family Choices For The Career Woman In The Twenty-First Century, Gianna M. Koné
Family Choices For The Career Woman In The Twenty-First Century, Gianna M. Koné
Theses and Graduate Projects
This study poses the question, "ls it possible for the twenty-first century woman to successfully integrate career and family, and if so, how?" Feminine identity, role, and fulfillment are changing and continue to transform in modern society. Today the twenty-first century woman struggles to integrate career, family, and home successfully while understanding the passion or driving force in her life. This research explores gender roles in order to understand, update, and find order in a chaotic world. Feminist thought and chaos theory are examined to see whether or not it is possible to integrate family and career in the new …

Ccl2 Responses To Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Are Associated With Disease Severity In Tuberculosis, Zahra Hasan, Jacqueline M. Cliff, Hazel M. Dockrell, Bushra Jamil, Muhammad Irfan, Mussarat Ashraf, Rabia Hussain
Section of Pulmonary & Critical Care
Background
Leucocyte activating chemokines such as CCL2, CCL3, and CXCL8 together with proinflammatory IFNγ, TNFα and downmodulatory IL10 play a central role in the restriction of M. tuberculosis infections, but is unclear whether these markers are indicative of tuberculosis disease severity.
Methodology
We investigated live M. tuberculosis- and M. bovis BCG- induced peripheral blood mononuclear cell responses in patients with tuberculosis (TB) and healthy endemic controls (ECs, n = 36). TB patients comprised pulmonary (PTB, n = 34) and extrapulmonary groups, subdivided into those with less severe localized extrapulmonary TB (L-ETB, n = 16) or severe disseminated ETB (D-ETB, …

Loan Portfolio And Performance Of Bank Holding Companies In The Us: 2006-2008, Mahelet Fikru
Loan Portfolio And Performance Of Bank Holding Companies In The Us: 2006-2008, Mahelet Fikru
Economics Discussion Papers
The paper examines loan portfolio of bank holding companies in the US during the years 2006-2008 to identify any significant differences in bank lending before and during the financial crisis. The results of the study suggest that for the largest banks there was no significant change in loan portfolio throughout 2006-8. However, for small banks, the share of real estate loans slightly increased in 2008 where as the share of consumer loans declined suggesting some possible substitution of consumer loans by real estate loans. The study also examines the relationship between loan types and overall performance of bank holding companies …

Rearrangement Of The Rna Polymerase Subunit H And The Lower Jaw In Archaeal Elongation Complexes, Sebastian Grünberg, Christoph Reich, Mirijam E. Zeller, Michael S. Bartlett, Michael Thomm
Biology Faculty Publications and Presentations
The lower jaws of archaeal RNA polymerase and eukaryotic RNA polymerase II include orthologous subunits H and Rpb5, respectively. The tertiary structure of H is very similar to the structure of the C-terminal domain of Rpb5, and both subunits are proximal to downstream DNA in pre-initiation complexes. Analyses of reconstituted euryarchaeal polymerase lacking subunit H revealed that H is important for open complex formation and initial transcription. Eukaryotic Rpb5 rescues activity of the ΔH enzyme indicating a strong conservation of function for this subunit from archaea to eukaryotes. Photochemical cross-linking in elongation complexes revealed a striking structural rearrangement of RNA …
Institutional Racism, Ice Raids, And Immigration Reform, Bill Ong Hing
Institutional Racism, Ice Raids, And Immigration Reform, Bill Ong Hing
University of San Francisco Law Review
Although immigration raids are not a recent phenomenon, this Article focuses on a few egregious ICE raids that occurred after President Bush’s push for immigration reform in 2004. the ICE operations targeted Latinos—usually Mexicans. The exceptions were Chinese restaurants and other businesses that relied on workers of color. That racial effect is the focus of this Article and the basis for advocating that both immigration policies and ICE enforcement need to be rethought.
