Equalization Of Loudspeakers And Enclosed Sound Fields, Xi Chen Dec 2009

Equalization Of Loudspeakers And Enclosed Sound Fields, Xi Chen

Theses and Dissertations

Equalization of loudspeakers and enclosed sound fields has been a topic of considerable interest for decades. Confusion has often arisen among audio professionals regarding the feasibility of simultaneously equalizing a loudspeaker and the enclosed field (i.e., the “room”) it excites. Because of frustrations encountered in such efforts, some have advocated abandoning simultaneous equalization altogether. This dissertation discusses the drawbacks of this approach as well as traditional in situ equalization methods. It demonstrates that many problems with traditional equalization stem from the use of measured acoustic pressure at a discrete point in a sound field as the system output. The dissertation …

BACKGROUND: The Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) is used for assessing nicotine dependence. A shorter test derived from the FTND used for the general population is the Heavy Smoking Index (HSI) (six questions vs. two). The objective of this study is to compare the validity of the HSI versus the FTND.

METHODS: A survey of tobacco use in the general population was carried out in the northern Spanish region of Galicia using both the FTND and the HSI to study a representative sample of 1655 daily smokers. The HSI was compared with the FTND, considered the gold standard. Measures …

Leasing Potential For Smes In Tanzania: Experience From Lessors And Lessees, Tobias A. Swai, Moyo Violet Ndonde

Business Management Review

Lease finance has been referred to as one of the best alternative sources of long-term finance for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). There is a lack of literature on the engagement of both lessors and lessees in relation to lease finance in Tanzania.  The researchers employed seven case studies consisting of two lessors and five lessees, in order to present the current experience and perspectives of the leasing business in Tanzania. The findings suggest that the lease finance has potential in Tanzania based on the needs of SMEs. Good clientele, good suppliers and the availability of credit in a good …

Sustainability Of Business Development Services: Gaps Analysis Of The Kenyan Market, Hellen Otieno, Donath Olomi, Ruth Kiraka

Business Management Review

A key challenge in entrepreneurship and private sector development is the provision of sustainable Business Development Services (BDS), particularly for micro and small enterprises. This study investigates how sustainability of BDS can be achieved, and how some providers manage to develop sustainable BDS and not others, using Grounded Theory. The findings suggest that there are at least nine specific demand-and-supply-side gaps in the BDS market which providers need to identify and fill if they are to become sustainable. The gaps relate to awareness, value, trust, quality, capacity, unwillingness to pay, appreciation, inability to pay and perception. How providers identify and …

On The Involvement Of The Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptor In The Pathogenesis And Progression Of Alzheimer’S Disease, Jose Francisco Abisambra Socarras

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of age-associated dementia. Cholesterol dysregulation is linked with AD onset. Besides age, the most important risk factor associated with AD is the inheritance of the epsilon-4 allele of apolipoprotein E, a cholesterol transporter. In addition, while hypercholesterolemia has been shown to be an independent risk factor for AD, the nature of the cholesterol-AD link is still not clear. This gap in our understanding is partly due to a lack of knowledge about cholesterol metabolism in the central nervous system (CNS).

The low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) is the main receptor of apoE and …

Facts: This is a petition to quash the decision of the Diamonds Supervisor to seize and confiscate goods imported by the petitioner. In February 2007, the petitioner – a company that imports and exports diamonds – imported into Israel a diamond weighing 14.32 carats from the African state of Mali. Mali is not a member of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, in which Israel is a participant. The imported diamond was not accompanied by a “Kimberley Process Certificate,” as required under the Israeli legislation implementing the Kimberley Process. Therefore, the Supervisor did not issue an import license for the diamond, …
