A Longitudinal Comparison Of The Growth Factors Of Slovenian Fast Growing Enterprises, Viljem Pšeničny

Economic and Business Review

The article presents the main features of Slovenia’s fastest growing companies and compares them with “gazelles” in the EU. The longitudinal survey presented connects with three other studies applying the same research method, namely studies employing the same questionnaire on growth factors that affect growing companies through to the criteria by which they were selected as growing businesses for the survey. The author notes that the growth factors which have an impact on Slovenian businesses and gazelles in the EU mostly do not show any significant differences, and that these differences also did not change significantly over a 15-year period. …

Much recent literature on indigenous identity politics in Latin America has emphasized the emergence of new discourses on ethnic citizenship. However, the ways in which state-sponsored efforts to validate and revitalize the Yucatec Maya language become relevant to rural Yucatecans reflect far more continuity with older local narratives about the relationship between language use and modernity. Situating contemporary engagements with multicultural language policies within a broader history of locally meaningful language practices complicates the general model of indigenous language communities that has informed many recent studies of Latin American identity politics and reframes scholarly debates that have emphasized contrasts between …

A 21-year-old man had progressive weakness and numbness of bilateral lower extremities and sphincter dysfunction after a traffic accident. The image and electrodiagnostic study showed no significant abnormal findings. Conversion paraplegia was suspected due to unusual clinical presentation, which cannot be explained by neuropathologic lesions. After intensive rehabilitation, patient's functional performance improved significantly and he could walk independently without device. But later, a fibrous dysplasia lesion was found at left sphenoid greater wing. He received an operation to remove it. This study investigates: a) the influence o f firm size and book-to-market ratio on bankruptcy risk, and b) the effect o f bankruptcy risk, firm size, and book-to-market ratio on subsequent return. The study employs Altman Z-Score and Ohlson 0-Score as proxies for bankruptcy risk. The results show that size has positive impact on Bankruptcy Risk measured by Altman Z-Score while book-to-market has positive impact on bankruptcy risk measured Ohlson 0-Score. Furthermore, the results show that none o f the variables has significant impact on subsequent return. Overall, this study asserts Dichev’s (1998) findings that bankruptcy risk is not rewarded …

The research examines the intensity o f market competition and budget emphasis on the relationship between budgetary participation and slack. Forty four managers from hotel industry in Jakarta had participated in the research. The collecting data employed used a questionnaire survey via electronic-mail. Data were analyzed using a two-way analysis o f variance. The results showed that the relationship between budgetary participation and slack were dependent on the intensity o f market competition and budget emphasis. Income tax could provide insights into the effectiveness o f tax policy and the role o f accounting. This paper examines the Indonesia income tax gap by focusing on accounts o f taxpayer ’s income statements frequently adjusted by tax auditors. The study also examines the reasons for these tax audit adjustments. This paper finds that the tax non-compliance can be traced into some accounts which are: 1) general and administrative costs; 2) COGS; and 3) sales. Animal studies have suggested that the cerebellum plays an inhibitory role in the collecting phase and a facilitatory role in the emptying phase of the voiding reflex in the micturition cycle.A 12 year old girl was admitted who complained of a headache and had a disturbance in consciousness after running in school. An emergent brain computed tomography scan showed massive bleeding over bilateral cerebellum hemispheres, vermis, and ventricles. An occipital craniotomy was performed to remove the hematoma. Background and Objective: Several evidence-based treatment programs for improving upper extremity functions such as constraint-induced therapy (CIT)/modified CIT (mCIT) and bilateral movement training (BMT) have been developed recently. The mCIT program combines restraint of the unaffected hand with intensive training of the affected hand, and BMT involves intensive bilateral training with symmetrical functional training. Some indices of ADL, such as basic ADL and instrumental ADL, are considered to be measures of functional status in the elderly. However, in most studies, functional status is evaluated by either the summed ADL score or disability score in one or more ADLs. Wilson disease is a rare autosomal recessive inherited disorder of copper metabolism. The genetic defect, localized to chromosome arm 13q, has been shown to affect the copper-transporting adenosine triphosphatase gene. The major pathology is excessive deposition of copper in the liver, brain, and other tissues. The most common presenting neurological features are tremor, dystonia and ataxia that influence the motor control and gait. The diagnosis is confirmed by measurement of serum ceruloplasmin, urinary copper excretion and hepatic copper content as well as the detection of Kayser-Fleischer rings.The subject in our case study is a 25-year-old, female patient with Wilson disease. …

It often invades adjacent structures and causes symptoms of gastrointestinal or urinary tract infection. However, it rarely causes sciatica by compressing the lumbosarcral nerve roots. Although health promotion issues specific to people with physical disabilities have received much attention in the last ten years, related clinical trials studying the efficacy and viability of these programs are lacking. In this pilot study, we implemented a short-term health promotion intervention for overweight/obese post-polio survivors. The study design included a three-month intervention containing exercise, diet education and health behavior modification, a before-and-after comparison, and a 12-month follow-up.Thirty one subjects were enrolled. Congenitally deaf persons don't have the ability to communicate verbally due to profound hearing impairment. Thus, they rely on words and sign language to communicate with others. Physicians tend to pay less attention to people who can't communicate verbally. We report the case of a 45-year-old congenitally deaf man who developed a left frontotemporal brain tumor. He was right-handed. As a result of the tumor, he lost both the ability to form words and the sign language he had relied upon to communicate with others.
