The Influence Of Branches In The Performance Of Power-Line Communication Systems That Use Mc-Coma With Reed Solomon Coding, Emmanuel Felix Dec 2009

The Influence Of Branches In The Performance Of Power-Line Communication Systems That Use Mc-Coma With Reed Solomon Coding, Emmanuel Felix

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

Power-line network is proposed as an infrastructure for Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs)
services provision. However, there are a number of factors that contribute greatly to power-line communication performance degradation. These include number of branches that can be added or removed from the power- line network, lengths of the branch lines, loading etc. It has been pointed out that the number of branches is one of the factors that affects power-line performance to a certain extent. In this paper the influence of number of branches on the performance of Broadband Power-line communication (BPLC) that uses MC- CDMA modulation scheme with …

A Systemic Framework For Implementation Of Tqm Programmes, Emanuel Mjema

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

The purpose of this paper is to present a systemic framework for implementation of TQM program in a manufacturing organisation that produces motor vehicle components in Port Elizabeth - South Africa. The approach used included conceptualisation of the systemic framework and then involvement of the stakeholders in adding scenarios to be considered in the design and implementing the framework in the real field. The findings obtained during the implementation of the systemic framework established that reduction of scrap rate, reduction of production costs, reduction of cycle time and employee motivation could be achieved through the implementation of a Systemic Framework …

Ship Recycling In The International Regulatory Regime Of The Marine Environment : Selected Legal And Practical Issues And Implications, Ying Fang

World Maritime University Dissertations

Ship recycling is considered to be a safe and green solution to the disposal of ships reaching the end of their operational lives. It has become an issue of grave concern mainly due to the deteriorating records of work safety and environmental pollution associated with this activity. Therefore, international regulatory measures are needed to effectively control ship recycling activities taking into account the important factors of environmental protection and socio-economic development. The discussion in this dissertation revolves around the co-existence and effectiveness of two regulatory conventions relating to ship recycling, namely, the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements …

Climate Protection And Ocean Acidification : The Case For Immediate Action In International Law & Policy Negotiations, Carolyne Okeijn Dec 2009

Climate Protection And Ocean Acidification : The Case For Immediate Action In International Law & Policy Negotiations, Carolyne Okeijn

World Maritime University Dissertations

This dissertation discusses ocean acidification as an emerging priority in international climate protection processes within the UNFCCC and the IMO. It provides discussion in an area where there is currently a gap between ocean acidification science and corresponding action in law and policy processes. It builds the case for substantial, immediate action on CO2 within the context of negotiations at UNFCCC for the post-Kyoto climate regime. This dissertation contains an examination of the available science publications on ocean acidification and submissions made by leading ocean acidification experts at COP-15; references to “ocean acidification” in the IMO MEPC meeting protocols and …

Managing A Creative Practice, Julie C. Barrett Dec 2009

Managing A Creative Practice, Julie C. Barrett

Critical and Creative Thinking Capstones Collection

Myths and assumptions about creativity often lead us to believe that creativity is innate. Researchers find though, that we develop creative skills like any other ability, through opportunity, encouragement and practice. They also believe that most people fail to reach their creative potential, not because of lack of ability, but lack of opportunity. In this paper, I studied how creativity functions (specifically in terms of my own painting practice) and how it can be applied more flexibly. Certain factors, such as access to strong mentors, freedom to experiment, and readily available resources, help potentially exceptional minds find the passion to …

Mentoring Towards Resilient Thought, Jeneen M. Mucci

Critical and Creative Thinking Capstones Collection

The focus of my Synthesis Project is the development of a Curriculum Guide that outlines the importance of building relationships with young people that are meaningful, supported, structured and collaborative. In developing this guide, I felt it was essential to create a framework that will support my work within youth development, for young people ages 9-19, in order to scaffold learning and foster opportunities for resilient thought. In addition to supporting these learning opportunities, I also felt it was important to develop a foundation from which the staff that I supervise and work with, understand the importance of their role …
