Solutions Of A System Of Integral Equations In Orlicz Spaces, Ravi P. Agarwal, Donal O'Regan, Patricia J.Y. Wong

Mathematics and System Engineering Faculty Publications

We consider the following system of integral equations Ui(t) = ∫1gi(t,s)fi(s,u1(s),u2(s),...,un(s))ds, a.e. t [0,1], 1 ≤ i ≤ n. Our aim is to establish criteria such that the above system has a solution (u±,U2,... ,un) where uiLφ (Orlicz space), 1 < i < n. We further investigate the system Ui(t) = ∫1gi(t,s)fi(s,u1(s),u2(s),...,un(s))ds, a.e. t [0,1], 1 ≤ i ≤ n. and establish the existence of constant-sign solutions in Orlicz spaces, i.e., for each 1 ≤ i ≤ n, Oui > 0 and ui G L

Inflation, Quantum Fields, And Cmb Anisotropies, Iván Agulló, José Navarro-Salas, Gonzalo J. Olmo, Leonard Parker

Faculty Publications

Inflationary cosmology has proven to be the most successful at predicting the properties of the anisotropies observed in the cosmic microwave background (CMB). In this essay we show that quantum field renormalization significantly influences the generation of primordial perturbations and hence the expected measurable imprint of cosmological inflation on the CMB. However, the new predictions remain in agreement with observation, and in fact favor the simplest forms of inflation. In the near future, observations of the influence of gravitational waves from the early universe on the CMB will test our new predictions. © 2009 World Scientific Publishing Company.

Solitary Hero Verus Social Man In Jeffers's Dear Judas And Yeats's Calvary, Deborah Fleming Dec 2009

Solitary Hero Verus Social Man In Jeffers's Dear Judas And Yeats's Calvary, Deborah Fleming

Jeffers Studies

W. B. Yeats’s play Calvary (1920) may have inspired or influenced Jeffers’s Dear Judas (1928). Both use the Easter story to explore not only with betrayal and redemption, but also archetypes of betrayer and savior, solitary hero and communal man. Both examine the psychology of the participants in order to evoke the meaning of the events and their importance in western culture. Yeats conceived of his play as an illustration of the distinction in his visionary psychology between objective men who exist in relation to others and subjective men who exist for themselves. For Jeffers, conversely, communal man, absorbed in …

This study analyzes determinants of passing the Indonesia CPA exam, whether there is any pattern ofpassing the exam, and the validity and reliability of tests. The analysis shows that sex (gender) and accounting education systems do not determine the odd ofpassing the CPA exam, however the probability to pass the exam is higher for younger test-takers and those working in public accounting firms. We also obtain the evidence of a significant pattern of passing the exam. The probability of exam takers passing in the first sitting of each subject apparently approximates the probability of test-takers passing the CPA exam. There …

Background: Previously we have shown that B cell receptor (BCR) expression and B cell receptor signaling pathways are important for the basal growth of B lymphoma cells. In particular we have shown that the activation of Syk, a non-src family protein tyrosine kinase and the mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPK), ERK and JNK that mediate BCR signals are required for the constitutive growth of B lymphoma cells. Since src family protein tyrosine kinases (SFKs) like Lyn are known to be needed for the phosphorylation of BCR co-receptors, Ig-alpha and Ig-beta, we hypothesized that one or more SFKs will be constitutively …

The Kyoto Protocol In A Global Perspective, Andreja Cirman, Polona Domadenik, Matjaž Koman, Tjaša Redek

Economic and Business Review

The global climate has changed notably since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gasses (GHG) have increased dramatically followed by an increase in global average temperature. In order to avoid negative potential outcomes of global warming, countries have adopted the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that has so far been ratified by 192 countries. In 1997 the Kyoto Protocol, a binding GHG reduction plan, was adopted and entered into force in 2005. But several countries, including the USA, have had doubts about the potential negative consequences of the planned 5% global joint reduction of …

How To Cope With Distance In The Future?, Guy Fournier Dec 2009

How To Cope With Distance In The Future?, Guy Fournier

Economic and Business Review

Mobility is essential to life, human needs, and economic development. Diminishing oil reserves, a growing dependency on oil and global warming will all strongly impact on mobility. However, innovative solutions exist. To keep mobility affordable it is likely that fossil-oil-based mobility will not be substituted by just one technology. Secondand third-generation biofuels and electric vehicles are some of the best ways to be energy and CO2 efficient in a well-to-wheel view. In contrast, fuel cells do not seem to be an alternative. Original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and suppliers will be firmly impacted by this evolution. The fastest and most innovative …

Detection Of Psilocybin Mushroom Analogs In Chocolate: Incorporating Current Events Into The Undergraduate Teaching Laboratory, Brandon Huskins, Christopher Dockery

Faculty Articles

In this experiment, tryptamine is used as a psilocin analog and is dispersed onto a Fisher brand cellulose laboratory sponge to simulate dehydrated mushrooms. The resulting “mushroom” material is ground, molded into chocolate, and presented to student groups for real-world and applied analyses. Students isolate the tryptamine from the chocolate using their knowledge of drug chemistry, solubility, pH, extractions, etc. Qualitative analysis is conducted by comparison to standards (Thin Layer Chromatography or Gas Chromatography) and quantitative analysis is conducted by Gas Chromatography using the method of internal standards.

Calibration Of Hdm-4 For Use In Pavement Management Systems (Pms), Nurdin Mushule Dec 2009

Calibration Of Hdm-4 For Use In Pavement Management Systems (Pms), Nurdin Mushule

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

One of major problems of road management in developing countries is the lack of decision making tools for preparing road maintenance programmes. This results in poor resource allocation and poor utilisation of existing assets. Pavement management systems (PMS) have been developed around the world in order to assist with the pavement management process in a co-ordinated and systematic manner. Some developed countries have derived pavement performance models that are suited to local conditions by setting up long term pavement performance studies. Conversely, most developing countries do not have the resources required to set up similar large-scale field experiments. However, validation …
