The Classics and Religious Studies collections support the teaching, research, and service activities of the entire university community. The primary audience is the faculty and students of the Department of Classics & Religious Studies in the College of Arts & Sciences. Its primary focus is support for the undergraduate and graduate curricula for Classics & Religious Studies. Research needs of faculty and students are supplemented through Interlibrary Loan. While the collection also benefits other citizens of the state of Nebraska, materials are not purchased with them in mind. The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers the B.A. and B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The department offers a Physics degree with an astronomy option and Physics faculty will continue to teach Astronomy classes. The graduate program in Astronomy is being phased out and there is currently no Physics Education program. The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln offers graduate education leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Physics. The Department has a flexible program of graduate study to accommodate students with a wide variety of goals and backgrounds.

The University of Nebraska was founded in Lincoln in 1871, but it took almost two decades until psychology courses were offered. The man who was singularly responsible for bringing psychology to the University was Professor Harry Kirk Wolfe, and thus the history of the Psychology Department begins with him.

Harry K. Wolfe enrolled as an undergraduate in the University in 1876, just five years after the University was chartered. Four years later, he graduated in a class of eight. The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders is part of the College of Education and Human Sciences. The department is housed in the Barkley Memorial Center, named in memory of William E and Edna M. Barkley, and is located on the East Campus of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. The Barkleys established a trust to support making the University of Nebraska-Lincoln a center for the preparation of teachers and other professionals to educate children and adults with speech and hearing disabilities. Asymptotic Falloff Of Local Waveform Measurements In Numerical Relativity, Denis Pollney, Christian Reisswig, Nils Dorband, Erik Schnetter, Peter Diener

Faculty Publications

We examine current numerical relativity computations of gravitational waves, which typically determine the asymptotic waves at infinity by extrapolation from finite (small) radii. Using simulations of a black hole binary with accurate wave extraction at r=1000M, we show that extrapolations from the near zone are self-consistent in approximating measurements at this radius, although with a somewhat reduced accuracy. We verify that ψ4 is the dominant asymptotic contribution to the gravitational energy (as required by the peeling theorem) but point out that gauge effects may complicate the interpretation of the other Weyl components. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Multiwavelength Studies Of Lsi+61°303, Michael E. Fahrenwald

Theses and Dissertations

LSI+61°303 is a member of a small class of X-ray binary stars that are also sources of strong radio emission. It has been detected as a periodic radio source with the NRAO Very Large Array, a magnitude 10.7 B0 star, a 0.5-5 keV X-ray source by the Einstein X-ray satellite and may be associated with an unidentified 100 MeV γ-ray source discovered by the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory satellite. Theories exist which suggest that binary systems are capable of emitting γ-rays at energies > 100 GeV. A similar system, PSR B1259-63, has been found to emit γ-rays at TeV energies. In …
