Environmental Fit: A Model For Assessing And Treating Problem Behavior Associated With Curricular Difficulties In Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders, Audrey Blakeley-Smith, Edward G. Carr, Sanja I. Cale, Jamie S. Owen-Deschryver

Peer Reviewed Articles

Theoretical considerations suggest that problem behavior should increase when a child’s competency does not match the curricular demands of the environment (i.e., when there is poor environmental fit). In the present study, environmental fit was examined for six children with autism spectrum disorders. Results indicated that the children exhibited high rates of problem behavior associated with poor motor or academic competency. Curricular modifications resulted in (a) a decrease in the level of problem behavior, (b) an increase in the percentage of task steps completed correctly, and (c) improved affect. Adults who worked with the children reported ease of intervention techniques. …

An Exploration Of White Mental Health Clinicians' Provision Of Spanish Language Services To Latino/A Clients, Sara Esther Walker

Theses, Dissertations, and Projects

This study explored White mental health clinicians' provision of services in Spanish to Latino/a clients through exploratory interviews with thirteen clinicians. Participants were asked about their identities as White Spanish speakers and their motivations to provide services in Spanish. They were asked how clients, colleagues, and supervisors respond to them as White Spanish speakers. Challenging aspects of their work were explored, as were any instances in which they felt advantaged by their White identities. Finally, participants were asked about differences in the quality of care that they offer in English versus Spanish, and additional support or training that would help …

Texas Bald Eagles, Brent Ortego, Chris Gregory, David Mabie, Mark Mitchell

Bulletin of the Texas Ornithological Society

Bald Eagles (Haliaetus leucocephalus) were studied in Texas from 1970 to 2009 by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Active nests increased from 5 in 1970 to 156 in 2005 when the last aerial survey was conducted. A total of 547 nest sites in 313 territories in 76 counties were identified thru May 2009. Longevity of 261 nests tracked averaged 4.2 years with a standard deviation of 3.4. Six hundred and sixty-one food items were examined at nest sites. They were comprised of 33.7% birds, 30.7% reptiles and 30% fish. Hurricanes did not appear to have any impacts on nest …
