Eicosanoids Act In Nodulation Reactions To Bacteria Serratia Marcescensin Hemipteran Pest, Eurygaster Integriceps, Hasan Tunaz

Turkish Journal of Biology

In insects, nodulation is the first step in cellular defense reactions to bacterial, fungal, and some viral infections. The hypothesis was posed that the hemipteran pest E. integriceps produces melantoic nodulation reactions to bacterial challenge and that eicosanoids mediate these reactions. Treating the adult of E. integriceps with Serratia marcescens induced nodulation reactions in a challenge dose-dependent manner. Injecting the adult E. integriceps with eicosanoid biosynthesis inhibitors, immediately before intrahemocoelic injections of the bacterium Serratia marcescens, sharply reduced the nodulation response to bacterial challenges. Separate treatments with specific inhibitors including dexamethasone (a phospholipase A_2 inhibitor), indomethacin, naproxen, ibuprofen, piroxicam (cyclooxygenase …

Isolation And Functional Characterization Of Two Rapeseed Genes Orthologous To Arabidopsis Thaliana Phenylalanine Ammonia-Lyase 2, Yu Ni, Yan-Zhen Dong, Guan-Rong Li, Bo Lei, You-Rong Chai, Jia-Na Li

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Two rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) phenylalanine ammonia-lyase 2 genes (BnPAL2-1 and BnPAL2-2) were isolated. The full-length cDNAs of BnPAL2-1 and BnPAL2-2 are 2422 bp and 2421 bp, with corresponding genomic sequences of 2735 bp and 2742 bp, respectively. Clues from NCBI BLAST, multi-alignment, the phylogenetic tree, conserved domains, preferential amino acids, and tertiary structures all indicated that they are orthologs of Arabidopsis thaliana PAL2 (AtPAL2). The purified His-tagged BnPAL2-1 and BnPAL2-2 proteins, expressed in Escherichia coli, were both active for PAL catabolism, but BnPAL2-2 was much more active than BnPAL2-1. Southern blot analysis showed that the BnPAL2 subfamily might contain …

Hormonal Factors Of Anti-Mutagenesis Regulation, Mekhtizadeh Emin Rza Jan 2009

Hormonal Factors Of Anti-Mutagenesis Regulation, Mekhtizadeh Emin Rza

Turkish Journal of Biology

The genetic activity of phytohormones (Phs) was studied. The investigation was conducted with 4 plants (Allium fistulosum, Lycopersicon esculentum, Triticum aestivum, and Gossypium hirsutum). The action of Phs on plant genetic processes was evaluated by chromosome aberration testing. It was observed that the exogenic Phs exerted a stabilizing effect on spontaneous plant mutagenesis. The use of Phs before and after the action of mutagenic factors contributed to an increase in the anti-mutational or reparative function of the plants´ genes. It was observed that the Phs exhibited genoprotective or reparative activity. The absence of clearly expressed dependence of these effects on …
