Cartographie Sociale Des Espaces De Rencontres Des Adolescentes Mariées Ou Non Dans La Zone D'Intervention Du Projet, Gisele Kaboré, Abdoulaye Semde, Lanko Some
Poverty, Gender, and Youth

Mesures De La Qualité De L'Emploi Au Maroc: Vers La Construction D'Un Indicateur Composite, Touhami Abdelkhalek, Aziz Ajbilou, Mohamed Benkassmi
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
N-Linked Glycans Characterization And Biomarker Discovery By Sequential Mass Spectrometry, Hongqin (Jenny) Jiao
N-Linked Glycans Characterization And Biomarker Discovery By Sequential Mass Spectrometry, Hongqin (Jenny) Jiao
Master's Theses and Capstones
N-linked glycans from a well-studied glycoprotein, (hen albumin) were characterized using ion trap MS (MSn) without chromatographic separation. From the spectral profile, ten major ion compositions were selected for study, which resulted in the characterization of 37 isomeric structures, 16 of which were previously unreported. These findings were compared with previously reported studies using different analytical strategies: IMMS, MS/MS. MSn not only identifies but also structurally characterizes components in the absence of any adjunct instrumentation. Selected examples have been detailed.
A major challenge for adult stem cell (ASC) research is the lack of specific biomarkers for their identification and isolation. …
Assessing Post Treatment Aeration Variables To Reduce Trihalomethanes For Small Systems, Ethan S. Brooke
Assessing Post Treatment Aeration Variables To Reduce Trihalomethanes For Small Systems, Ethan S. Brooke
Master's Theses and Capstones
Small Public Water Systems face unique challenges in meeting Stage I & II disinfection byproduct rules. Diffused and spray aeration offer significant advantages in installation and O&M costs for small communities that need to lower THMs in finished drinking water. In this study, bench and pilot aeration assessments were undertaken in order to evaluate the importance and interaction of aeration variables associated with Trihalomethane (THM) and specifically chloroform removal. Bench scale experiments to determine the effect of air stripping on free chlorine levels and water pH were also conducted.

Broadening Girls' Horizons: Effects Of Life Skills Education Programme In Rural Uttar Pradesh, Rajib Acharya, Shveta Kalyanwala, Shireen J. Jejeebhoy, Vinita Nathani
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
This report is the result of a collaborative project undertaken by Prerana, a Delhi-based NGO, and the Population Council to implement a life-skills education program for unmarried adolescent girls in rural Uttar Pradesh and to evaluate its effectiveness. The intervention program aimed to empower unmarried adolescent girls aged 13–17 years and address their vulnerabilities by: building their agency, fostering egalitarian gender role attitudes, building awareness about sexual and reproductive health matters, developing vocational skills and future work aspirations, and influencing perceptions about marriage and the ability to negotiate marriage-related decisions (delaying marriage and first pregnancy).
Measuring And Operationalizing Job Quality In Egypt, Ragui Assaad, Rania Roushdy, Ali Rashed
Measuring And Operationalizing Job Quality In Egypt, Ragui Assaad, Rania Roushdy, Ali Rashed
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
Given data constraints and the complexity of the concept, it is already quite challenging to operationalize the notion of job quality for wage and salary employment, but even more so for nonwage workers. This working paper addresses this challenge and attempts to formulate a measure of job quality at the individual job level. We combine information on actual and estimated earnings with information on access to social insurance, regularity of employment, work hours, and the nature of the workplace into an index of job quality, and we investigate the individual and enterprise-level determinants of such an index. Although our findings …
Fecal Glucocorticoids Reflect Socio-Ecological And Anthropogenic Stressors In The Lives Of Wild Spotted Hyenas, Heather E. Watts
Fecal Glucocorticoids Reflect Socio-Ecological And Anthropogenic Stressors In The Lives Of Wild Spotted Hyenas, Heather E. Watts
Biology Faculty Works
Our aim was to identify natural and anthropogenic influences on the stress physiology of large African carnivores, using wild spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) as model animals. With both longitudinal data from a single social group, and cross-sectional data from multiple groups, we used fecal glucocorticoids (fGC) to examine potential stressors among spotted hyenas. Longitudinal data from adult members of a group living on the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya, revealed that fGC concentrations were elevated during two periods of social upheaval among adults, especially among younger females; however, prey availability, rainfall, and presence of lions did not …

Making Up The Difference: Ecuadorian Women Engaged In Direct Selling, Erynn Masi Casanova
Making Up The Difference: Ecuadorian Women Engaged In Direct Selling, Erynn Masi Casanova
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
As economic globalization progresses, employment is becoming more flexible and informalized in many parts of the world. In some developing countries, direct sales (selling branded products from person to person) is an increasingly attractive type of work, especially for women. Direct sales organizations benefit from cultural norms and structural forces that steer women away from full-time jobs in the formal economy, and also from the material conditions that lead to women's need to earn an income. This study examines the work experiences and social worlds of women affiliated with Ecuador's most successful direct sales company, Yanbal, with a focus on …
Nebraska's Corporate-Farming Law And Discriminatory Effects Under The Dormant Commerce Clause, Anthony Schutz
Nebraska's Corporate-Farming Law And Discriminatory Effects Under The Dormant Commerce Clause, Anthony Schutz
Nebraska Law Review
Laws dealing with agriculture have generated a great deal of constitutional law. This Article explores one more recent example. Corporate- farming laws are one hallmark of agricultural law. They regulate the use of limited liability business forms for owning agricultural land, engaging in production agriculture, or both on approximately 312 million acres of farmland in nine states. That is approximately 77% of the land in those states and approximately one-third of all farmland in the United States. These regulations generally take the form of restricting the use of limited liability to those producers that the legislature or electorate have deemed …
The Occurrence Of Batrachochytrium Dendrobatidis In Salamander Populations Of West Virginia, Casey John Bartkus
The Occurrence Of Batrachochytrium Dendrobatidis In Salamander Populations Of West Virginia, Casey John Bartkus
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd), otherwise known as the amphibian chytrid fungus, is a pathogen that causes the amphibian disease, chytridiomycosis. While Bd has been found in amphibian populations in other states across the country, little is known of its occurrence in West Virginia. Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis is highly associated with amphibians in montane habitats. Because West Virginia has the highest mean elevation of any state east of the Mississippi River, amphibians in the state may be at high risk of an outbreak. The goal of this study was to determine the status of Bd in salamander species of concern in West Virginia. …
The Blind Men And The Elephant: Learning A Little At A Time About Civic Engagement, Melanie Moore Kubo, Ashley Mckenna
The Blind Men And The Elephant: Learning A Little At A Time About Civic Engagement, Melanie Moore Kubo, Ashley Mckenna
The Foundation Review
· This article, written from the perspective of the evaluator, describes what happened in one community in which four noncollaborating funders were supporting community development programs.
· The Treeline Collaborative evolved from grassroots origins to become a leading organization in the community, serving as a one-stop shop for many programs and providing a structure for civic engagement of residents.
· A collaborative evaluation would have enabled a deeper understanding of the Treeline Collaborative, the outcomes it attained and missed, and the multiple roles it plays in the community, perhaps leading to more effective program and funding decisions.
Consumer Welfare And Group Boycott Law, C. Paul Rogers Iii
Consumer Welfare And Group Boycott Law, C. Paul Rogers Iii
SMU Law Review
If a showing of consumer harm is now to be required for (1) the per se rule and/or (2) a finding of unreasonableness under the rule of reason, it would appear that a good deal of boycott precedent is effectively overruled. But if it isn't, should it be, or is there any reason why an exception to the consumer welfare model should be carved out for some kinds of boycotts? Should prior cases be ignored or overruled? And how are lower federal courts now dealing with the question of consumer harm in concerted refusal to deal cases, given the paucity …
Method Against Method: Swarm And Interdisciplinary Research Methodology, Dylan E. Wittkower
Method Against Method: Swarm And Interdisciplinary Research Methodology, Dylan E. Wittkower
Philosophy Faculty Publications
Part of a special issue on “swarm methodology,” this paper, written by a swarm participant, reflects upon the purpose and value of this kind of interdisciplinary research methodology. First, by way of a recognition of the interdisciplinary status of this paper itself, the question of what we hope to accomplish when we engage in conversations across disciplinary boundaries is broached. Second, a discussion of the practice of peer-review provides an approximate view of one paradigmatic understanding of how we produce a “conversation” within a given established research methodology. We are then, third, able to consider a number of possible related …

Transcriptional Reprogramming Of Gene Expression In Bovine Somatic Cell Chromatin Transfer Embryos, N. Rodriguez-Osorio, Zhongde Wang, G. P. Page, J. M. Robl, E. Memili
Animal, Dairy, and Veterinary Science Faculty Publications
Background Successful reprogramming of a somatic genome to produce a healthy clone by somatic cells nuclear transfer (SCNT) is a rare event and the mechanisms involved in this process are poorly defined. When serial or successive rounds of cloning are performed, blastocyst and full term development rates decline even further with the increasing rounds of cloning. Identifying the "cumulative errors" could reveal the epigenetic reprogramming blocks in animal cloning. Results Bovine clones from up to four generations of successive cloning were produced by chromatin transfer (CT). Using Affymetrix bovine microarrays we determined that the transcriptomes of blastocysts derived from the …
