Stories From The Creativity Garden: A Series Of Interviews With Dr. Mary Murdock, Carol Yeager
Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects
This project explores the curricular development of the Creativity Domain fromthe perspective of Dr. Mary Murdock in a series of informal discussions and video clips with me. We discuss some of the curriculum highlights and processes that she has worked with from her time as a graduate assistant in Georgia to her tenure at Buffalo State College. The recordings have been created in a documentary format as pod casts as Dr. Murdock discusses the domain of creativity, curriculum and methodology of the delivery of theory and the processes inherent. The intent has been to dig deeper into several key process …

Itools A Facilitator’S Tool Kit Of Deliberate Intuition Tools, Tara L. Bissett
Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects
The purpose of this master’s project was to contribute to Janice Francisco and Cyndi Burnett’s (2008) research on deliberate intuition within the Creative Problem Solving Thinking Skills Model (CPSTSM) framework developed by Puccio, Murdock & Mance (2007). 16 intuition tools, “itools” (Francisco & Burnett, 2008) aimed at tapping into deliberate intuition as an integral component of the creative process, were collected, described, developed, and grouped into 4 categories; Quick & Dirty, Artsy Fartsy, Yellow Brick Road, and Abracadabra. The importance of setting intention was highlighted as an integral component of any itool, as well as the need for more research …
Draining A Polygon-Or-Rolling A Ball Out Of A Polygon, Greg Aloupis, Jean Cardinal, Sébastien Collette, Ferran Hurtado, Stefan Langerman, Joseph O'Rourke
Draining A Polygon-Or-Rolling A Ball Out Of A Polygon, Greg Aloupis, Jean Cardinal, Sébastien Collette, Ferran Hurtado, Stefan Langerman, Joseph O'Rourke
Computer Science: Faculty Publications
We introduce the problem of draining water (or balls representing water drops) out of a punctured polygon (or a polyhedron) by rotating the shape. For 2D polygons, we obtain combinatorial bounds on the number of holes needed, both for arbitrary polygons and for special classes of polygons. We detail an O(n2 log n) algorithm that finds the minimum number of holes needed for a given polygon, and argue that the complexity remains polynomial for polyhedra in 3D. We make a start at characterizing the 1-drainable shapes, those that only need one hole.

Isometric Morphing Of Triangular Meshes, Prosenjit Bose, Joseph O'Rourke, Chang Shu, Stefanie Wuhrer
Computer Science: Faculty Publications
We present a novel approach to morph between two isometric poses of the same non-rigid object given as triangular meshes. We model the morphs as linear interpolations in a suitable shape space S. For triangulated 3D polygons, we prove that interpolating linearly in this shape space corresponds to the most isometric morph in R3. We extend this shape space to arbitrary triangulations in 3D using a heuristic approach.
Peace Without Justice, Or Justice Without Peace?, Clair Apodaca
Peace Without Justice, Or Justice Without Peace?, Clair Apodaca
Human Rights & Human Welfare
Peace without justice is an illusion. The use of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate and prosecute human rights violations not only provides restorative justice for those harmed by the wrongdoing but also retributive justice towards the perpetrators. Restorative justice seeks to help heal the wounds of the victims and community by acknowledging and witnessing the pain and suffering of the victim. Retributive justice seeks to punish the offenders. The hope is that retribution will deter or prevent future acts of violence by holding perpetrators accountable for the violations of human rights, genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. …

Implementation And Analysis Of Practical Algorithm For Data Security, Willi Ballenthin, F. Kacani, Julia Albath, Sanjay Kumar Madria
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
In this paper, we present a complete implementation of the Practical Algorithm for Data Security (PADS) proposed by Albath et al., an end-to-end security scheme employing symmetric key encryption. The implementation takes full advantage of the modular design of the TinyOS environment. The simplicity of the algorithm allows for efficient implementation in hardware, a requirement for resource constrained devices. The protocol adds only four bytes of data per packet, on par with industry standards. Simulation and empirical results of the scheme are also provided. The analysis shows that the Practical Algorithm for Data Security is superior to standard security schemes.

Publications and Research
Access to published information is of interest to many users. Library and information science (LIS) professionals are especially interested in gaining access and guiding users to all available information. Though they are often dependent on traditional subscription-based library resources, moving away from the costly ones and replacing them with usage of available open access sources, presents practitioners with a significant budget consideration in today's shrinking economy. This paper examines the availability of current LIS open access e-journals; their presence in well- and less-well known abstracting and indexing sources, their inclusion in standard library bibliographic tools as well as coverage by …

Relationship Between Leader-Subordinate Personality Congruence And Performance And Satisfaction In The Uk, K.Z. Ahmad
Relationship Between Leader-Subordinate Personality Congruence And Performance And Satisfaction In The Uk, K.Z. Ahmad
Research Publications (2006 to 2010)
This study seeks to investigate the relationship between leader-subordinate congruence and performance and satisfaction. Data was gathered from 267 leader-subordinate dyads in a light manufacturing electrical assembly plant in Wales and 82 leader-subordinate dyads in another in England, UK Data on personality of the respondents and their supervisors were gathered using the 16PF (Cattell et aL, 1992). The absolute difference between the personality scores of the respondent and the supervisor for each of the five secondary personality factors were calculated. The absolute differences were then totalled up to obtain a total difference score. As expected there was a significant correlation …

Of Muslim Persuasion: The Politics Of Convivencia In Ceuta, Spain, Gabriel Alejandro Torres Colón
Anthropology ETDs
This dissertation examines everyday interactions and political struggles between self-identified Christians and Muslims in the North African Spanish exclave of Ceuta. I explore how each group envisions themselves as part of a local and national community, and then I consider how such visions affect local political processes in everyday life and institutional politics. This dissertation brings a political anthropological perspective to the study of multiculturalism and presents a theoretical perspective for the study of difference in various political contexts.

Educational Spending: Kentucky Vs. Other States, William Hoyt, Christopher Jepsen, Kenneth R. Troske
CBER Research Report
Excerpts from the executive summary:
The passage of the Kentucky Educational Reform Act (KERA) in 1990 had a dramatic impact on the funding of primary and secondary education in the state. The amount of money spent on education increased significantly with the passage of KERA with districts in rural areas of the state experiencing the largest growth in spending (Hoyt, 1999). This has led to a decline in the disparity between rural and urban districts in education spending. However, despite the increase in educational spending, Kentucky still lags behind the typical state in the U.S. in spending per student (Troske, …

Interrogation Of Detainees: Extending A Hand Or A Boot?, Amos N. Guiora
University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform
The current "war on terror" provides the Bush administration with a unique opportunity to both establish clear guidelines for the interrogation of detainees and to make a forceful statement about American values. How the government chooses to act can promote either an ethical commitment to the norms of civil society, or an attitude analogous to Toby Keith's "American Way," where Keith sings that "you'll be sorry that you messed with the USofA, 'Cuz we'll put a boot in your ass, It's the American Way."
