Fighting Terrorism: Assessing Israel's Use Of Force In Response To Hezbollah, Zachary Myers

San Diego Law Review

The Israel-Lebanon conflict has highlighted difficult questions surrounding military responses to terrorist attacks. While Israel's response was forceful, this Comment argues that it was legitimate under international law. There are inevitable problems that arise when a nation faces a terrorist militia that hides among civilians and generally operates outside the confines of international law. The wisdom of maintaining rigid laws of war given changing battlefield norms is a topic that is outside the scope of this Comment. Defense Horizons

This paper explores how ecological and biological models can help inform the understanding of counterinsurgency operations and irregular conflict. Drawing parallels between predator-prey dynamics in nature and interactions between insurgent and counterinsurgent forces, the authors look at how ecological frameworks may provide analytical insight into complex adaptive behaviors, force relationships, and operational environments. While ecological models cannot fully explain the complexity of warfare, they can offer useful conceptual tools for analyzing insurgency dynamics, adaptation, and strategic interaction in irregular warfare environments.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

Through wafer interconnects (TWIs) enable vertical stacking of integrated circuit chips in a single package. A complete process to fabricate TWIs has been developed and demonstrated using blank test wafers. The next step in integrating this technology into 3D microelectronic packaging is the demonstration of TWIs on wafers with preexisting microcircuitry. The circuitry must be electrically accessible from the backside of the wafer utilizing the TWIs; the electrical performance of the circuitry must be unchanged as a result of the TWI processing; and the processing must be as cost effective as possible. We are surrounded by the use of space assets, but for the most part are unaware of their impact on our lives. On a daily basis, space assets contribute to our well-being and others around the world. Space activities have enhanced security, monitored the environment, improved and increased information growth and flow, created economic growth, and changed the way people around the world live and work.[1] Since the 1991 Gulf War, we have also come to understand how much the US military depends on space. Military forces use satellite information for communications, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, warning, weather, navigation, and timing. …

Mr. Phillip’s book, Wealth and Democracy, stands as a continuation in many ways of his previous works considering the increasing divide between rich and poor. The collection of works that comprise Kevin Phillips’ impressive list of publications, mostly center upon the recurring theme of increasing inequality within American society, and what that widening divide is doing to us economically and politically. While the social implications of such a divide are many, these implications are less a focus of Wealth and Democracy, than are the economic and political ramifications.
