Pengaruh Asam Lemak Jenuh, Tidak Jenuh Dan Asam Lemak Trans Terhadap Kesehatan, Ratu Ayu Dewi Sartika Feb 2008

Pengaruh Asam Lemak Jenuh, Tidak Jenuh Dan Asam Lemak Trans Terhadap Kesehatan, Ratu Ayu Dewi Sartika

Kesmas

Nowadays modern meal pattern is related to the increase of cholesterol level in the blood. The high blood cholesterol can lead …

The North Korean Ballistic Missile Program, Daniel A. Pinkston Dr. Feb 2008

The North Korean Ballistic Missile Program, Daniel A. Pinkston Dr.

Books, Monographs & Collaborative Studies

North Korea’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs have drawn international attention for years. In the early 1960s, Pyongyang began to pursue the capability to produce advanced weapons systems, including rockets and missiles. However, foreign assistance and technology, particularly from China and the Soviet Union, were instrumental in the acquisition of these capabilities. The ballistic missile inventory now totals about 800 road-mobile missiles, including about 200 Nodong missiles that could strike Japan. In April 2007, North Korea for the first time displayed two new missiles: a short-range tactical missile that poses a threat to Seoul and U.S. Forces in South …

Multiple Modes Of Mdmx Regulation Affect P53 Activation, Daniele M. Gilkes Feb 2008

Multiple Modes Of Mdmx Regulation Affect P53 Activation, Daniele M. Gilkes

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

MDMX has emerged as a negative regulator of p53 transcriptional activity following DNA damage, loss of ribosomal integrity, and aberrant mitogenic signaling. Disruption of rRNA biogenesis by ribosomal stress activates p53 by releasing ribosomal proteins from nucleoli which bind MDM2 and inhibit p53 degradation. We found that p53 activation by ribosomal stress requires degradation of MDMX by MDM2. This occurs by L11 binding to the acidic domain of MDM2 which promotes its E3 ligase function preferentially towards MDMX. Further, unlike DNA damage which regulates MDMX stability through ATM-dependent phosphorylation events, ribosomal stress does not require MDMX phosphorylation suggesting p53 may …

Color In Scientific Visualization: Perception And Image-Based Data Display, Hongqin Zhang Feb 2008

Color In Scientific Visualization: Perception And Image-Based Data Display, Hongqin Zhang

Theses

Visualization is the transformation of information into a visual display that enhances users understanding and interpretation of the data. This thesis project has investigated the use of color and human vision modeling for visualization of image-based scientific data. Two preliminary psychophysical experiments were first conducted on uniform color patches to analyze the perception and understanding of different color attributes, which provided psychophysical evidence and guidance for the choice of color space/attributes for color encoding. Perceptual color scales were then designed for univariate and bivariate image data display and their effectiveness was evaluated through three psychophysical experiments. Some general guidelines were …

Educational Professionals’ Knowledge And Acceptance Of Evolution, Louis S. Nadelson, Gale M. Sinatra

Curriculum, Instruction, and Foundational Studies Faculty Publications and Presentations

This study sought to determine if we could identify a cadre of educational professionals with sufficient knowledge and acceptance of biological evolution to objectively evaluate the merits of the emerging discipline of evolutionary educational psychology. Members of APA and AERA were recruited to complete surveys measuring demographic characteristics, evolution knowledge (specifically natural selection), and evolution acceptance. We tested a model representing propensity toward open-minded examination of the merits of evolutionary educational psychology. Results showed evolution knowledge and acceptance, personal beliefs, academic and research experience, were key indicators of willingness to engage in objective evaluation of this new discipline. …

Parasite Pathoecology Of Chacoan Great Houses: The Healthiest And Wormiest Ancestral Puebloans, Karl J. Reinhard Feb 2008

Parasite Pathoecology Of Chacoan Great Houses: The Healthiest And Wormiest Ancestral Puebloans, Karl J. Reinhard

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

Two fields of paleopathological investigation originated in the Southwest. Archaeoparasitology is the study ancient parasite infection (Reinhard 1990). It includes comparisons between time periods of single societies as well as the comparison of parasitism between different, contemporaneous cultures. For example, Fry (1980) compared Fremont and Anasazi parasitism. Fry (1984) compared Archaic hunter-gatherer parasitism and Ancestral Pueblo parasitism. All of these studies fall into the definition of Archaeoparasitology. Pathoecology is the reconstruction of the relationships between behavior, environment, and disease organisms in the development of ill-health (Martinson et al. 2003; Reinhard and Buikstra 2003, Reinhard et al. 2003, Santoro et al. …

Tucker, Saritha Suram, Laurel L. Lenz, Shizuo Akira, Satoshi Uematsu, Milena Girotti, Joseph V. Bonventre, Kevin Breuel, David L. Williams, Christina C. Leslie

ETSU Faculty Works

Eicosanoid production by macrophages is an early response to microbial infection that promotes acute inflammation. The intracellular pathogen Listeria monocytogenes stimulates arachidonic acid release and eicosanoid production from resident mouse peritoneal macrophages through activation of group IVA cytosolic phospholipase A2 (cPLA2α). The ability of wild type L. monocytogenes (WTLM) to stimulate arachidonic acid release is partially dependent on the virulence factor listeriolysin O; however, WTLM and L. monocytogenes lacking listeriolysin O (ΔhlyLM) induce similar levels of cyclooxygenase 2. Arachidonic acid release requires activation of MAPKs by WTLM and ΔhlyLM. The attenuated release of arachidonic acid that is observed in TLR2-/- …

Dialectic Schemes In Thesaurus Creation, Maziar Amirhosseini

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

This article looks at the logical relationships between the categories that have led to the development of the thesaurus, including the historical origins of thesaurus construction. The research uses the dialectical, logical relationships of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis. Each step in the dialectic of thesaurus creation includes subjective and objective thought as part of the thesis and antithesis, resolved by the more absolute thinking of the synthesis.

Biofuels For The Future: The Role Of Biotechnology For Energy Crops, Albert Kausch Feb 2008

Biofuels For The Future: The Role Of Biotechnology For Energy Crops, Albert Kausch

Amgen Seminar Series in Chemical Engineering

The utilization of energy crops produced on American farms as a source of renewable fuels is a concept with great relevance to current ecological and economic issues on both national and global scales. Recent research indicates that many approaches to renewable biofuels, including corn and sugrarcane ethanol, soybean and palm biodiesel, are indeed, insufficient, not sustainable or even carbon negative. Development of a significant national capacity to utilize perennial forage crops, such as switchgrass (Panicum virgatum, L., Poaceae) and other bioenergy feedstocks, as biofuels could provide a degree of independence from foreign oil, a cleaner source of energy for road …
