The 2008 Guide for Weed Management in Nebraska is a valuable tool for anyone with responsibility for controlling weeds in crop, pasture, range, turf or aquatic environments in Nebraska. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive publication that will enable the user to make sound weed control decisions based on unbiased, research-based information, and to carry out weed control activities in a safe and responsible manner.
This publication deals principally with herbicides as an aid for crop production. The suggestions for use are based on research at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Research and Extension Centers and elsewhere.

Entomology Papers from Other Sources
Numerous recent studies have tested the effects of plant, pollinator, and predator diversity on primary productivity, pollination, and consumption, respectively. Many have shown a positive relationship, particularly in controlled experiments, but variability in results has emphasized the context-dependency of these relationships. Complementary resource use may lead to a positive relationship between diversity and these processes, but only when a diverse array of niches is available to be partitioned among species. Therefore, the slope of the diversity-function relationship may change across differing levels of heterogeneity, but empirical evaluations of this pattern are lacking. Here we examine three important functions/properties in different …

Family Law In The Twenty-First Century: An Annotated Bibliography, Nancy Levit
Faculty Works
The twenty-first century will bring, among other things, an explosion of technology (in domains ranging from electronic to reproductive), greater personal mobility, and an aging population. Thus, this bibliography emphasizes cutting edge issues in areas as wide-ranging as elder law, electronic discovery, changes in the legal profession (such as internet advertising and provision of legal services), multidisciplinary and multijurisdictional practice, and the new world of reproductive technologies. This bibliography covers law review articles, A.L.R. entries, and some web articles published after 2002, with an emphasis on those in more recent years. The bibliography for the first time expands to include …
Government Support For Terrorism Insurance, Thomas Russell, Jeffrey E. Thomas
Government Support For Terrorism Insurance, Thomas Russell, Jeffrey E. Thomas
Faculty Works
Federal government support for the terrorism insurance industry has a very brief history. Prior to 9/11, insurers did not take terrorist-related losses into account when underwriting risks. The industry did not even conceive of an attack that could generate such significant losses. The dramatic shift in perception since then has caused many to suggest that terrorism risks are uninsurable. The notion that terrorism risk was uninsurable was part of the rationale advanced for government intervention. When the initial efforts at legislation failed, the industry began to withdraw from the market by adding exclusions for terrorism-related losses to their policies. Reinsurers …

“Civil Discourse Under Fire” You probably won’t see the above words as a headline in your morning newspaper any time soon, but it’s happening nonetheless. Civil discourse seems to be in trouble. The art of respectful argument and the effort to find mutual solutions seem to be losing ground. Our public debates on critical issues are filled with sound bites instead of substance, and our popular culture seems motivated more by the desire to dominate and win than by the commitment to learn, understand, seek common ground, or persuade. There’s trouble in the Academy too. Faculty members are challenged for …

This Article suggests that our analysis of U.S. immigration policy should also be informed by a broader consideration of the experiences of immigrants and refugees in other parts of the world, including those who will never come to the United States. As we examine the moral, legal, and pragmatic imperatives behind the evolution of U.S. immigration policy, we should bear in mind the historical, political, economic, and cultural realities facing developing countries that host refugees from within their own regions. For some observers, such a global perspective might support calls for greater receptivity to immigrants in the United States. For …
De-Moralized: Glucksberg In The Malaise, Steven D. Smith
De-Moralized: Glucksberg In The Malaise, Steven D. Smith
Michigan Law Review
Ten years down the road, what is the enduring significance of the "assisted suicide" cases, Washington v. Glucksberg and Vacco v. Quill? The cases reflect an unusually earnest, but nonetheless unsuccessful, attempt by the Supreme Court to grapple with a profound moral issue. So, why was the Court unable to provide a more satisfying justification for its conclusions? This Article, written for a symposium on the tenth anniversary of Glucksberg,, discusses that question. Part I examines some of the flaws in reasoning in the Glucksberg and Quill opinions and suggests that these flaws stem from the opinion writers' …

Experiments were conducted to measure the changes in bulk density of cracked corn, corn meal, soybean meal, cotton seed meal, and distillers dried grain (without solubles) when subjected to simulated overburden pressures. All materials were tested at two moisture content levels (approximately 8% and 12% w.b.) and seven pressures between 0 and 69 kPa (0 and 10 psi). A mathematical model was fitted to the data to predict the bulk density of each feed ingredient as a function of pressure and moisture content. These relationships were inserted into a previously developed computer model to predict ingredient packing within conventional storage …

Three's Company - How American Law Can Recognize A Third Social Parent In Same-Sex Headed Families, Laura Nicole Althouse
Three's Company - How American Law Can Recognize A Third Social Parent In Same-Sex Headed Families, Laura Nicole Althouse
UC Law SF Journal on Gender and Justice
In light of recent American and Canadian case law granting legal parenting rights to three parents in same-sex headed families, this Article explores how the Uniform Parentage Act can be modified to accommodate multiple parenthood within this population subset. The author draws from Professor Nancy Dowd's scholarship on unbundling social and economic parenting rights to support social fatherhood. The author also analyzes existing methods by which same-sex couples may obtain parenting rights under American law and recent California precedents applying the Uniform Parentage Act to recognize two legal mothers. The Article proposes that Nancy Dowd's revisions to the Act, coupled …

Utilization Of Problem-Based Learning In An Entrepreneurship Business Planning Course, Joseph R. Bell
Utilization Of Problem-Based Learning In An Entrepreneurship Business Planning Course, Joseph R. Bell
New England Journal of Entrepreneurship
This article demonstrates the implementation and efficacy of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in an undergraduate entrepreneurship business planning course. Throughout the course, ill-structured problems arise that require independent thinking and ongoing problem solving with students taking responsibility for their own learning. The course incorporates the latest classroom technology and how that technology is utilized to deliver self-directed learning. The PBL methodology is then evaluated in light of anonymous student survey results. The objective is to create a framework for future assessment in evaluating PBL in the business planning course.

Translighting Group, Inc., A Small Town, Family Business, Jeff Lowenthal
New England Journal of Entrepreneurship
TransLighting Group, Inc. consists of two companies all centered around the transportation industry. The original company, TransLighting, was started in 1962 by Henry Phillips. Henry was an engineer with Ford Motor Company specializing in braking wiring systems. Over an eight-year period, he designed and patented several wiring and harness systems that are used in cars as of the 2006 model year. Back in the 1950s Henry had the opportunity to learn about and use LED technology. He even came up with a process using this technology to increase brake light visibility (i.e., the third or middle brake light on most …
