Prosecutors "Doing Justice" Through Osmosis—Reminders To Encourage A Culture Of Cooperation, Melanie D. Wilson

Scholarly Articles

Cooperating defendants have proven to be necessary and valuable tools in preventing crime and prosecuting criminals. Federal prosecutors must exercise vigilance to thoughtfully decide how best to pursue the information cooperating defendants can provide. Such informed and good-faith judgment calls will inevitably require every prosecutor to weigh "the relative value or importance of different rights and interests and decide what, if any, action to take in response to a given tip. The DOJ and the ninety-three U.S. Attorneys can foster good decision-making by developing a culture of "doing justice" in which every prosecutor is encouraged.

What we need are better ways to identify and treat criminality in its earliest stages and effective treatments for those preparing to reenter society following jail sentences. If we can provide some type of personalized therapy for these troubled citizens, we can better prepare them to lead lawful lifestyles outside of the prison gates.

Brianna Johnson is a sophomore biology major with a minor in mathematics. She plans to work in research and attend graduate school after graduation. Her paper was written for her GWRIT 103 class in spring of 2008 …

Establishing Multicultural Interdependence In Europe: Overcoming The Legal Challenges Facing Cosmopolitan Citizens, Jessica L. Hawkinson

International Studies Honors Projects

Modern states and legal structures around the world are pressed by the forces of globalization to accommodate increasingly diverse multicultural populations. Older and more frequently followed models for cultural integration are rooted in theories of assimilation or liberal pluralism. These theories can demand unbalanced changes from either minority communities or the state. Few theories identify the dual process of interdependence necessary for the democratic inclusion of diverse minority communities in Europe. This thesis explores the historical intent and shortcomings of immigration and integration legislation as it relates to ethnic minority communities in Great Britain and the Netherlands, and makes a …

Candor, Zeal, And The Substitution Of Judgment: Ethics And The Mentally Ill Criminal Defendant, John D. King

Scholarly Articles
