Responses Of Study Abroad Students In Australia To Experience-Based Pedagogy In Sport Studies, Richard Light, Steve Georgakis

International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning

This paper contributes to research on the scholarship of teaching in the physical education/sport studies fields by examining the responses of study abroad students from overseas studying in Australia to a unit of study in sport studies that placed the interpretation of experience as the centre of the learning process. It draws on research conducted at an Australian university over an 18-month period and involving 170 participants. The study focused on the ways in which student motivations, inclinations, expectations and prior experience interacted with experiences of living in Australia and the experience-based nature of the unit of study shaped their …

From The Margins To The Center: A Qualitative Study Giving Voice To Black Women In Athletic Training Education Programs, Bonnie J. Siple

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Black women are dramatically underrepresented in the profession of athletic training. Failure to introduce Black women and their perspective to the profession and the literature may result in their continued exclusion. It may be theorized that one of the reasons more Black female students are not entering into the study of athletic training and matriculating through to the point of graduation and credentialing is that they do not have adequate mentors to successfully guide them. The success of any academic program, including athletic training, depends upon attracting and keeping quality students. Therefore, understanding potential recruits' perceptions of athletic training is important.

Objective: To (1) gain insight regarding undergraduate students' decisions to enter or not enter an athletic training education program (ATEP), and (2) examine potential athletic training recruits' perceptions of the roles and responsibilities of certified athletic trainers.

An Analysis Of The Impact Of Service Quality On Satisfaction, Value, And Future Intentions Within Campus Recreation Using Performance-Based Measures, Matthew Ott

The problem of the study was to examine the relationships between service quality, customer satisfaction, value and future intentions within campus recreation using only the performance section of the Centre for Environmental and Recreation Management-Customer Service Quality (CERM-CSQ) instrument (Howat, Absher, Crilley, & Miline, 1996) and additional questions consistent with the results of a study conducted by Murray and Howat (2002). A total of 248 usable surveys were collected from student users of campus recreation services at a university in the Northeastern region of the United States.
