Microbiological Examination Of Some Imported Canned And Frozen Foods, Khalid K. Al.Bayatti Jun 2008

Microbiological Examination Of Some Imported Canned And Frozen Foods, Khalid K. Al.Bayatti

Baghdad Science Journal

A number of juices, jams, canned foods and frozen fishes available in local markets were inspected with respect to microbial contamination. We have determined the total viable bacterial cell counts in these samples and the number of g(-) lactose fermentors as a bacterial indicator of food spoilage. The results indicated that most of the food items inspected, were contaminated with large numbers of different species of g(-) ,g(+), yeast and fungi and some were contained more than the maximum permissible number of pathogenic g(-) enteric E-coli, which render these food items unsafe for human consumption.

This report will address the question of income adequacy for Illinois’ older adults using the national WOW-GI National Elder Economic Security Standard Index (the Index) methodology. The Index will benchmark basic costs of living for elder households. It will illustrate how costs of living vary geographically and are based on the characteristics of elder households: household size, homeownership or renter, mode of transportation, and health status. The costs are for basic needs of elder households; they are based on market costs and do not assume any subsidies.

Supplement Allows Ranchers To Eliminate Hay Feeding And Reduce Winter Feed Coats, Richard M. Garrard, J. Benton Glaze Jr Jun 2008

Supplement Allows Ranchers To Eliminate Hay Feeding And Reduce Winter Feed Coats, Richard M. Garrard, J. Benton Glaze Jr

Journal of Extension

Winter feeding of beef cows represents the highest single annual cost to producers across the United States, and more specifically in south central Idaho. Typically, producers utilize hay as the sole source of nutrients for their cows during the winter feeding period. In an attempt to decrease feed costs and maintain animal performance, the utilization of a winter feed supplement consisting of a protein source, ground corn and salt was implemented. Results indicate that the use of the supplement was more economically feasible than feeding hay to cows during the winter feeding period.

Private Sector Participation In The Provision Of Primary Healthcare In Ghana: A Case Study Of Savelgu/Nanton District And Tamale Metropolis In The Northern Region, Ibriham Sayibu

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Governments making healthcare accessible and affordable to a majority of people contribute positively to the socioeconomic development of individual nations. It would also reduce vulnerability and inequalities which are common in societies. However, accessibility to health services by majority of the population in sub-Saharan Africa remains unmet. There is still less affordable healthcare coupled with poor quality of services. Infrastructure provision is unevenly distributed across regions while investment in the sector has not been favorable over the past decades. The rural people are negatively affected as a result of these problems. For these reasons, private health sector participation in the …

Kenneth Nickerson Papers

Candida albicans is a dimorphic fungus that can interconvert between yeast and filamentous forms. Its ability to regulate morphogenesis is strongly correlated with virulence. Tup1, a transcriptional repressor, and the signaling molecule farnesol are both capable of negatively regulating the yeast to filamentous conversion. Based on this overlap in function, we tested the hypothesis that the cellular response to farnesol involves, in part, the activation of Tup1. Tup1 functions with the DNA binding proteins Nrg1 and Rfg1 as a transcription regulator to repress the expression of hypha-specific genes. The tup1/tup1 and nrg1/nrg1 mutants, but not the rfg1/rfg1 mutant, failed to …
