Traumatic Experience Scale For Jurors (Tesj), Michael James Krummel Oct 2008

Traumatic Experience Scale For Jurors (Tesj), Michael James Krummel

Dissertations and Theses

This comprehensive dissertation describes research that involved the development of a paper-and-pencil tool to inventory juror stress level(s) resulting from common types of Washington criminal and civil trials. It includes a general explanation of its rationale and development, and provides norms as well as evidence of its reliability and validity. Untreated stress can lead to several well-documented mental health conditions, the most serious two being part of this research: Acute Stress Disorder and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. The research on stress, trauma, the assessment of stress and trauma, and related therapeutic interventions have not been well correlated to the vicarious stress …

Role Of The N- And C-Lobes Of Calmodulin In The Activation Of Ca2+/Calmodulin-Dependent Protein Kinase Ii, Amelie Forest, Matthew T Swulius, Joyce K Y Tse, J Michael Bradshaw, Tara Gaertner, M Neal Waxham Oct 2008

Role Of The N- And C-Lobes Of Calmodulin In The Activation Of Ca2+/Calmodulin-Dependent Protein Kinase Ii, Amelie Forest, Matthew T Swulius, Joyce K Y Tse, J Michael Bradshaw, Tara Gaertner, M Neal Waxham

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Understanding the principles of calmodulin (CaM) activation of target enzymes will help delineate how this seemingly simple molecule can play such a complex role in transducing Ca (2+)-signals to a variety of downstream pathways. In the work reported here, we use biochemical and biophysical tools and a panel of CaM constructs to examine the lobe specific interactions between CaM and CaMKII necessary for the activation and autophosphorylation of the enzyme. Interestingly, the N-terminal lobe of CaM by itself was able to partially activate and allow autophosphorylation of CaMKII while the C-terminal lobe was inactive. When used together, CaMN and CaMC …

U.S. Based Business Needs For Technical/Occupational Employees With International Skills: Considerations For Community College And Sub-Baccalaureate Programs In The Tampa Bay Economic Zone., Ronald L. Olney Oct 2008

U.S. Based Business Needs For Technical/Occupational Employees With International Skills: Considerations For Community College And Sub-Baccalaureate Programs In The Tampa Bay Economic Zone., Ronald L. Olney

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Significance: This study provides the first systematic needs assessment of a U.S. business region to determine if businesses want international skills taught in community college technical and occupational programs. Without this assessment, community college leaders and faculty are not able to determine whether they are adequately preparing students in these skills to be successful in tomorrow's fast paced, mobile and integrated global workforce.

Research Aims:

1. Conduct a needs assessment to determine whether international skills were considered important for employment entry or movement

2. Determine where businesses obtain international skills training.

3. Garner business recommendations for the improvement of international …
