Change Through Tradition In The Work Of 'Zulu Sofola Rehearsal Presentation Outline, Ajima M. Olaghere
Change Through Tradition In The Work Of 'Zulu Sofola Rehearsal Presentation Outline, Ajima M. Olaghere
Undergraduate Research Symposium (UGRS)
This paper highlights the struggle Nigerian playwright 'Zulu Sofola underwent to impart her message. She attempted to confront gender oppression through tradition without contradicting herself in her play, 'Wedlock of the Gods.' ‘Zulu Sofola wrote commentaries about social problems and the influence of Western culture. Her goal was to maintain a traditional framework in the face of encroaching Western perspectives. She advocated enacting change through tradition, irrespective of Western ideologies about change. Sofola focused on gender oppression as a social problem. She intended to address gender oppression rooted in tradition by teaching traditional customs to her audience in order for …

What Makes Opera Thrive – Learning From Evaluation In The Performing Arts, Paul Lorton Jr
Business Analytics and Information Systems
For not-for-profit cultural enterprises to survive, they need to learn what makes them worthy of their community’s support for not-for-profit enterprises must secure contributions in addition to the revenues they may generate from their services. This discussion will examine the information contained in the some 500 IRS Form 990 (Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax) report from organizations that classify their activity as “Opera” and present a matrix of goals, achievement and income mixes to build on earlier efforts at defining success for Opera companies. By systematically exploring what the criteria are, how activity is measured against those criteria …

Augmenting The Clinical Apprenticeship Model, Carole Steketee, Adrian Bower
Augmenting The Clinical Apprenticeship Model, Carole Steketee, Adrian Bower
Education Conference Papers
The School of Medicine at The University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA) has adopted a clinical apprenticeship model for the final two years of its MBBS course. In the context of real clinical settings, students observe experienced clinicians as they consult with real patients. Students are provided with opportunities to practice clinical skills under the watchful eye of these clinicians who provide constructive feedback and gradually relax their level of intervention as the students become more proficient.
For the first time since the course commenced, UNDA medical students began their clinical apprenticeships in 2007 and participated in six three week …

Data pertaining to the Tribes TLC resource was collected prior to the training phase, post training, and at the conclusion of the practicum. This paper reports the perceptions of students …
Censorship And Morality In Cyberspace: Regulating The Gender-Based Harms Of Pornography Online, Michelle Evans
Censorship And Morality In Cyberspace: Regulating The Gender-Based Harms Of Pornography Online, Michelle Evans
Law Papers and Journal Articles
This paper is the second of a two part paper. Part one, 'What's Morality got to do with it?: The Gender-based harms of Pornography', published in the previous volume of this journal, argued that Australia's approach to regulating pornography, namely censorship, fails to specifically address the gender-based harms caused by the production and distribution of pornography. Part one argued that the preferable approach, which specifically addresses these gender-based harms, is the sex equality approach to regulation, first formulated by American feminists Catharine A MacKinnon and Andrea Dworkin in the form of a civil rights ordinance. The ordinance allows persons harmed …
