Role Of Synuclein Proteins In Auditory Function, Catherine A. Young
Independent Studies and Capstones
The recent discovery of synuclein proteins in peripheral auditory tissues has prompted a closer examination of the role of these proteins in hearing. In the present study, auditory brainstem response thresholds of synuclein knockout mice are compared to wild type mice.

Chemistry Faculty Research and Scholarship
The preparation and characterization of new model complexes for the molybdenum cofactor are reported. The new models are distinctive for the inclusion of pterin-substituted dithiolene chelates and have the formulation Tp*MoX(pterin-R-dithiolene) (Tp* = tris(3,5,-dimethylpyrazolyl)borate), X= O, S, R= aryl or –C(OH)(CH3)2). Syntheses of Mo(4+) and (5+) complexes of two pterin-dithiolene derivatives as both oxo and sulfido compounds, and improved syntheses for pterinyl alkynes and [Et4N][Tp*MoIV(S)S4] reagents are described. Characterization methods include electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, electrochemistry, infrared spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance and magnetic circular dichroism. Cyclic voltammetry reveals that the …

Law of the Rio Chama
There are six major reservoirs in New Mexico upstream of the Middle Rio Grande. This article provides some background on how those reservoirs are operated within the current legal framework and how those operations meet various purposes and needs within the Middle Rio Grande.
Between the Colorado-New Mexico state line on the north and Elephant Butte Reservoir on the south, four major tributaries join the Rio Grande, including the Rio Chama, the Jemez River, the Rio Salado, and the Rio Puerco. The Rio Chama is the primary tributary, heading in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado and joining the …

Improvement To The Data Logging Capability Of A Cough Monitoring System, Matthew Barlow
Improvement To The Data Logging Capability Of A Cough Monitoring System, Matthew Barlow
Inquiry: The University of Arkansas Undergraduate Research Journal
Data logging capability of a previously developed self contained cough recorder using an accelerometer as the sensing element is improved by using a secure digital memory card for later retrieval on a computer. Firmware is developed to enhance the functionality of the cough recorder. Existing libraries are modified for increased write rates. Increased writing speed allows 8-bit sampling at rates exceeding 8kHz, allowing for detailed time and frequency domain analysis. Additional features have also been developed to enable easy management of recordings, such as a file system compatibility with Microsoft Windows., and unique file names for each recording.
Genetic Population Structure And Breeding Parameters Of Three Pennsylvania State Threatened Darter Species: Etheostoma Camurum, E. Maculatum And E. Tippecanoe, Laura Howell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Little is known about the breeding parameters and population structure of three Pennsylvania darters, the bluebreast darter, Etheostoma camurum, the spotted darter, E. maculatum, and the Tippecanoe darter, E. tippecanoe. All are Pennsylvania state threatened species, and they are considered threatened or endangered in several other states throughout their range. Although some limited breeding information is available from populations in other states, the timing and duration of spawning has not been documented for Pennsylvania populations of E. camurum and E. tippecanoe. Both species occupy disjunct riffle habitats in the Allegheny River system, with stable populations in French Creek. We have …
Enhancing Fertiliser Use Efficiency For Transplanted Vegetables, Dennis Phillips, Aileen Reid, Gavin D'Adhemar
Enhancing Fertiliser Use Efficiency For Transplanted Vegetables, Dennis Phillips, Aileen Reid, Gavin D'Adhemar
Horticulture research reports
Horticulture Australia (HAL) Project No. VG04018.
Project VG 04018 ‘Enhancing fertiliser use efficiency for transplanted vegetables’ showed that spraying highly concentrated solutions containing nitrogen over newly transplanted vegetable seedlings for between 14 and 21 days after planting can increase marketable yields by as much as 300% compared to other methods of fertiliser application. Crops that this method has been successfully tested on in this study by the W.A. Department of Agriculture and Food include iceberg and Cos lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage (wombok), celery and cabbage.
The research was conducted on virgin sandy soils of the Swan Coastal Plain near …
