Mycorrhizal fungi form symbiotic associations with tree roots, aiding in the absorption of water and minerals from the soil in exchange for nutrients. Many mycorrhizal fungi are hypogeous (truffle-forming), fruiting underground and containing spores that are dispersed via animals. Mycophagous mammals rely on truffles as a key food source, maintaining the feedback loop between mycorrhizal partnerships and forest regeneration through fungal consumption and spore dispersal. Despite the Southern Appalachian Mountains being a truffle biodiversity hotspot, little is known about the factors driving their fruiting in the region. The purpose of this study was to explore the feasibility and potential impact of occupational therapy-led parent education sessions in pediatric primary care.

Background: Pseudoachondroplasia (PSACH) is a rare autosomal dominant skeletal dysplasia caused by pathogenic variants in the cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) gene. It is classically characterized by early-onset growth failure, disproportionate short stature, progressive epiphyseal dysplasia, and premature degenerative joint disease. Although phenotypic variability has been reported, PSACH is often regarded as a uniformly severe condition with predictable orthopedic morbidity.

Case Presentation: We report an eleven-year-old female with genetically confirmed PSACH who demonstrates an unexpectedly mild clinical phenotype, despite a maternal history of severe disease requiring bilateral total hip replacement during adolescence. Introduction: Cannabis use among U.S. adults has increased substantially in recent years, and primary care physicians increasingly encounter patients using cannabis for chronic pain management. This case series describes two patients with chronic neuropathic pain participating in an observational study evaluating a dose-controlled oral tetrahydrocannabinol (THC): cannabidiol (CBD) formulation. Methods: Two participants completed a four-week program involving incremental oral administration of a 1:1 THC:CBD formulation. Pain intensity scores, medication use, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) were assessed before and after the intervention. Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is a rare hereditary small-vessel disease caused by NOTCH3 mutations, leading to recurrent ischemic strokes, cognitive decline, and early-onset dementia. Oxidative stress has been implicated in the pathophysiology of small-vessel cerebrovascular disease, but therapeutic strategies targeting oxidative injury remain limited. We present a 40-year-old female with recurrent ischemic strokes involving the right and left middle cerebral arteries, persistent hypercoagulability of unknown etiology, and no identifiable inherited or acquired thrombophilia. Modern artificial intelligence architectures based on floating-point matrix multiplications face rapid growth in energy consumption with scaling and the von Neumann bottleneck. This paper presents a non-classical computing model, Voxel Oscillator Computing (VOC AI), based on a 12-vector highly isotropic (within discrete lattice constraints) phase matrix (LOGOS/MOUTION), extending the established S-HVE (Harmonic Vector Equilibrium) and Resonant AI frameworks. The architecture uses a face-centered cubic (FCC) lattice with 12 balanced connections, where information is encoded as a phase (16-bit integer) without explicit amplitude weights. Co-manipulation requires two or more agents to coordinate through a shared object while exchanging information through motion and force. Although this capability is routine for humans, robotic systems still struggle to participate in such interaction naturally and effectively. This thesis addresses that gap by studying human co-manipulation behavior, developing methods to quantify performance, collecting a leader-follower dataset that isolates haptic communication, and training data-driven controllers from human demonstrations. First, cumulative and real-time metrics were developed to quantify human dyad performance. The purpose of this research is to explore how college students' differing levels of sex education are associated with their views about sexual behavior, particularly behaviors defined as taboo. In comparison to 25 years ago, adolescents are less likely to receive important sex education today; and are unlikely to receive valuable information until after their first sexual experience. Even with advances in diagnosis and treatment, breast cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women, with nearly 90% of fatalities linked to drug resistance driven by metastasis and recurrence. G1P3, an anti-apoptotic mitochondrial protein, is upregulated in breast cancer and has been associated with increased metastatic potential and poor prognosis. Recent findings show that G1P3 enhances interactions between Rab5-containing endosomes (RCEs) and mitochondria, and emerging evidence suggests that mitochondria play a critical role in initiating interferon (IFN) responses. This mouse study investigates the efficacy of ellagic acid (EA), a potent antioxidant in fruits and nuts, and inulin, a prebiotic known for gut microbiota benefits, in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). A Western-style diet (WD) was used to induce NASH in C57BL/6J male mice for 16 weeks. Mice then received EA (100 mg/kg/day, oral gavage, 5 days/week) and/or 5% inulin (w/w in diet) for 12 weeks while continuing WD. Inulin increased energy intake and trended toward higher body weight and fasting glucose. EA reduced liver weights and restored the liver-to-body weight ratio. EA and inulin combined significantly reduced steatosis and hepatocyte …

Background: Cervical collar application remains prevalent in trauma care despite the absence of evidence of neurological benefit from spinal immobilisation. Clinical behaviour in this area has proven resistant to change, and the persistence of the collar requires explanation beyond the evidential debate alone. The fear of cervical injury has origins that predate clinical practice. Neurobiological preparedness theory suggests that threat associations linked to survival-relevant stimuli are more rapidly acquired and more durably maintained than other learned fears; the cervical region is a plausible candidate for this form of prepared response. Despite multimodal therapy of surgical resection, radiation, and chemotherapy, glioblastoma patients show a dismal prognosis. Protein Arginine Methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) is overexpressed in glioblastoma, and its inhibition imparts an anti-tumor effect. Tumor cells invariably develop resistance to Temozolomide (TMZ), the standard chemotherapeutic agent for glioblastoma. However, the mechanistic role of PRMT5 in treatment-resistant glioblastoma is unknown. Patient-derived glioma stem-like cells (GSCs), treated with PRMT5 inhibitor (LLY-283) or transfected with PRMT5-target-specific siRNA, were treated with TMZ and subjected to in vitro functional and mechanistic studies. The Body At The Mercy Of The State: Sama V. Hannigan And The Fragmented Right To Refuse Across State Lines, Mallory Yeates

Courts have long recognized bodily autonomy as a core constitutional value. Yet, doctrine governing reproductive healthcare tells a different story. Sama v. Hannigan exposes the fragility of the right to refuse medical treatment, particularly for incarcerated patients whose claims must survive the demanding standard of qualified immunity. When physicians removed Carrie Rahat Sama’s ovary despite her explicit refusal, her constitutional claim failed because no precedent with sufficiently similar facts had previously condemned such conduct. This case reveals how the “clearly established” prong of qualified immunity can foreclose redress for blatant violations of autonomy.

Proteins are dynamic molecules whose functional landscapes extend beyond static structural representations. Transient cryptic pockets (buried cavities that emerge through protein motion) represent underexplored targets for allosteric regulation and drug discovery. General anesthetics are small, lipophilic, weakly polar molecules that are well suited to partition into such hydrophobic sites. In this work, environment-sensitive fluorescence, photoaffinity labeling, mass spectrometry, mutational analysis, and microsecond molecular dynamics simulations were integrated to discover and characterize a cryptic, highly apolar binding site within the hydrophobic core of human proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), a central scaffold in DNA replication and repair. Access to green spaces has been consistently linked to improved physical and mental health, yet the mechanisms driving this relationship remain underexplored, particularly in the United States. Using data from the 2018 General Social Survey (N = 1,045), this study examines whether time spent in natural environments mediates the relationship between access to green spaces and self‑rated physical and mental health. Linear regression models with robust standard errors reveal that time spent in natural environments mediates the relationship between access to green spaces and both health outcomes.
