Heroes In Sport: Assessing Celebrity Endorser Effectiveness, Joshua Shuart

The use of celebrities, and particularly athletes, to influence consumers and sell products is not a new practice, but one that is gaining considerable steam in the sports marketplace. However, many academics and practitioners have long questioned the means by which celebrity endorsement is measured and evaluated. Through the use of validated surveys among US students and the inauguration of the Celebrity-Hero Matrix (CHM), some of their questions are answered. Being labelled a 'heroic' athlete does, it seems, have tremendous power for marketers, and provides endorsement clout for the athlete.

The texts and accompanying media bound herein represent the culmination of an intensive course of study focused on writing for the screen, or screenwriting, and are submitted as partial fulfillment of Lindenwood University's requirements for the degree of master of fine arts.

This culminating project is comprised of a feature-length motion picture screenplay, an accompanying introduction to the author/explanation of the screenplay, and a DVD copy of a televised discussion program (hosted by the author with a professional Hollywood screenwriter as guest) dealing with the craft of screenwriting.

This writing project is a culmination of essays based on my personal experiences as an educator, and an environmentalist. The work illustrates a mindset of abuse and neglect that harms nature, and mistreats children. It offers hope through those who will nurture and not turn their back on the problems of society.

Design And Performance Of A Curved-Crystal X-Ray Emission Spectrometer, A. C. Hudson, Wayne C. Stolte, Dennis W. Lindle, Renaud Guillemin

Chemistry and Biochemistry Faculty Research

A curved-crystal x-ray emission spectrometer has been designed and built to measure 2–5 keV x-ray fluorescence resulting from a core-level excitation of gas phase species. The spectrometer can rotate 180°, allowing detection of emitted x rays with variable polarization angles, and is capable of collecting spectra over a wide energy range (20 eV wide with 0.5 eV resolution at the Cl K edge) simultaneously. In addition, the entire experimental chamber can be rotated about the incident-radiation axis by nearly 360° while maintaining vacuum, permitting measurements of angular distributions of emitted x rays.

The need for further investigation into the influence of a mental health diagnosis on a client's self-perception is grounded in ethical, clinical, and financial concerns. This study examines the correlation between self-knowledge of a mental health diagnosis and length of time since being diagnosed, with various aspects of self-concept measured by: the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES), the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE), and the MacArthur Subjective Status Scale (SSS). The sample in this study, drawn from a northeast land grant university student body, was controlled for the presence of physical health diagnoses and resulted in a total of 70 females (68%), …

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) claims 5,000 to 7,000 infant lives each year. The deaths undoubtedly cause a sense of guilt, depression and hopelessness among survivors; specifically the parents. Many people supporting SIDS parents tend to feel uncomfortable around them and thus avoid the grieving family altogether. Many SIDS parents state that while their friends and family are trying to be helpful and supportive, many of their attempts actually are hurtful. An Investigation On The Natural Radioactivity Of Building Materials, Raw Materials And Interior Coatings In Central Turkey, Arman Erkan

Aim: The aim of this investigation was to measure the amount of g-decay of several building materials (brick and cement), raw materials (fly-ash and soil), interior coating materials (foam [used as a thermal insulator], water-based paints, solvent-based paints and phosphogypsum) from central Turkey, in terms of Bq kg^{-1}, and to calculate the biological damage caused by this radioactivity. Materials and Methods: Gamma-spectrometry technique has been used throughout the research in order to determine the activity of natural radionuclides. Later, annual doses were calculated. The concepts of home have been, and continue to be, the foundation of much of the contention surrounding all sides of discourse regarding diaspora and immigration - through both viewing the home as threatened and defiled as well as redefining the imagined reality of home. It is the impasse of working around and against the frame of Western temporality and space from within the trope of home that this paper will explore; specifically how narratives of diasporic subjectivity disrupt and threaten normalized constructs of origin and time, history, and identity.
