This study attempts to estimate the efficiency of acid fast bacilli(AFB) stain technique to diagnosis tuberculosis in the different samples. This study was performed in general Al-Diawynia hospital and Department of Microbiology, Medicine College, Al-Qadisiha University between October 2005 to October 2008. A total of 1654 clinical samples from 750 patients analyzed for acid-fast staining. These were 605 sputum, 67 bronchial wash, 42 pleural fluids, 4 urine, 7 ascetic fluids and 3 cerebrospinal fluids. Determination Of Heavy Elements Levels In Blood Of Children With Anemia Living At Al- Najaf City., Rasha S. Nima, Maha A. Al-Shamri, Mustafa A. Al-Kadium, Hussein Al-Shahin

This study aimed to determine Fe ,Pb , Mn ,Se, Cu ,and Zn levels in the blood of children with anemia , living at Al- Najaf City ,as indicators of environmental pollution in this city. Sixty five children (mean age 7.8 ±0.5) including 34 girls , 28 boys having anemia and the ages matched healthy children 29 girls and 28 boys ,were studied .We observed iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in 35 child (16 girls ,19 boys) ,and only anemia (OA) in 30 child (15 girls ,15 boys). It was found that significant difference of Hb, PCV ,MCV (P<0.01) , and ferritin(P<0.001) values in IDA patients (both girls and boys)were found, when compared with healthy children. The results show that there are significantly higher levels of Pb , Mn , and Zn ,in the serum of children in (IDA) group( both girls and boys) in comparison with their control groups . While Se , and Cu levels were significantly lower in (OA) and(IDA) groups , girls and boys, as related to their control groups. In conclusion ,children with iron deficient anemia are more sensitive to the pollutants and more at risk as compared to healthy children . Their bloods are considered as an index of biologically active metals in the body, reflecting direct interaction of atmosphericpollution of a population.

A prospective study was conducted on 325 patients (187 males and 138 females) with B –thalassemia major &sickle- thalassemia - who were attending the thalassemia center at Maternity and Children Teaching Hospital in Al-Diwaniya , from the period of September 2007 till April 2008. Their ages ranged from 1-20 years. They were studied for Anti HCV sero positivity among patients with B- thalassemia major &Sickle- thalassemia (12 patients (4.01%) and 1 patient (3.84%) respectively). This study attempts to determine the protective level of antibodies against hepatitis B surface antigen among vaccinated and unvaccinated children in Al-Diawynia city, age ranging 1- 10 year. A total of 220 blood samples have been collected and tested for detection of serological markers of hepatitis B virus (HBsAg, anti-HBs and anti- HBc). They included 150 children represented the vaccinated group and 70 children represented the unvaccinated group. Prevalence of anti-HBs was higher in vaccinated children 67.3% than in unvaccinated children 3.3%. Anti-HBc was not found in vaccinated children, while 4.2% in unvaccinated children. The study was conducted on 1990 patients [ 1140 (57.3%) males and 850 (42.7%) females] during three years 2005-2007 at Thi-Qar province. They suffering from sings and symptoms of liver diseases. The results improved no positive case of infection with HIV , and revealed 176 (8.8%) positive hepatitis cases. HBV had high prevalence than other types including 100(5%) cases with significant differences , followed by HCV 63(3.2%) and 13(0.7%)cases were recorded as dual infections (HBV+HCV). The aim of this study was to evaluate serum creatinine level as a diagnostic test in relation to diabetes mellitus and to clear the difference in serum creatinine concentrations between diabetic males and females. The study was carried out to assess the effect of cinnamon oil on multi-drug resistant (MDR) strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus mirabilis isolated from patient infected with otitis media. 50 specimens were collected at AL Hakeem Teaching Hospital in AL-Najaf governorate, 20 isolates were found to be Staphylococcus spp. and Proteus spp. on further studying for the species level only six of these isolates were found to be multi-drug resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus mirabilis. Soil mycoflora in several schools, mosques and hotels in Diwaniya city were examined using dilution plate technique and three different culture media with and without supplementation of cycloheximide antifungal. A total number of fungal isolates observed in all experiments were 2589 that represent 57 species related to 48 genus, in addition to the white and dark sterile mycelium. Cycloheximide substantially affected the frequency of isolated fungi. Where Penicillium chrysogenum was the most frequent species (44.73%) on culture media free from cycloheximide. Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common valvular heart disease worldwide, with pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and management differing widely according to sex. Women demonstrate predominantly fibrotic valve modifications and less calcifications for given hemodynamic severity, with left ventricular concentric hypertrophy and smaller cavity size leading to a higher prevalence of paradoxical low-flow, low-gradient AS. These sex differences are modulated by hormonal changes, inflammatory and metabolic pathways, as well as genetic and epigenetic regulators. Atypical symptoms and hemodynamic specificities on echocardiography all combine to create diagnostic challenges that contribute to delayed recognition and intervention. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women globally. Recognition of sex-specific risk factors, pathophysiology, and clinical presentations has established women's cardiovascular health as a research and clinical priority. Pregnancy complications, premature menopause, and autoimmune disease, are now identified as long-term contributors to cardiovascular risk, while female-predominant syndromes such as ischemia with non-obstructive coronary arteries and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction are increasingly acknowledged. Novel therapies and updated guidelines emphasize psychosocial determinants, reproductive history, and postpartum risk assessment in prevention and management. Objectives: To investigate patterns of antidepressant prescribing and continuation rates among patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) in Saudi Arabia and to identify factors associated with treatment persistence. Method: A retrospective study was conducted at King Fahad Hospital of the University between May 2023 and February 2025. Data on patients' demographic characteristics, diagnostic information, and prescribed medications were collected. Initial antidepressant therapy and treatment continuation were evaluated, and potential influencing factors were analyzed. Results: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) accounted for most first-line prescriptions (71%), followed by SSRI/atypical combinations (11%) and serotonin–norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) (5%).
