‘Tribes Tlc’: Teacher Education Students’ Perceptions, Richard G. Berlach, Annette Sanders
‘Tribes Tlc’: Teacher Education Students’ Perceptions, Richard G. Berlach, Annette Sanders
Education Conference Papers
Tribes TLC is a process rather than a programme per se that aims to facilitate interactive learning and assist in the engendering of a positive classroom climate. Devised in the USA and imported into a number of contexts internationally, uptake in Australia has been considerable. Thirty second and third year Bachelor of Education students undertook the training hosted by Cooloongalup Primary School prior to participating in a ten week practicum. Data pertaining to the Tribes TLC resource was collected prior to the training phase, post training, and at the conclusion of the practicum. This paper reports the perceptions of students …

Predictors Of Job Satisfaction In Long-Term Facilities, Paul Krueger, Kevin Brazil, Dawn Guthrie, Rolf J. Sebaldt
Health Sciences Faculty Publications
Purpose: The ability of health care organizations to provide quality care depends on its employees. Employers concerned about improving job satisfaction should consider employees’ perceptions of their jobs. The purpose of this study was to identify the best predictors of job satisfaction within long-term care (LTC) facilities.
Design and Methods: A cross-sectional, multi-site, quality of work life (QWL) survey was completed at three independent not-for-profi t LTC facilities in three communities in Ontario, Canada. 1,329 full, part and casual time non-physician staff on active payroll were eligible to participate. A 45-item, self-administered questionnaire collected information on: co-worker and supervisor support; …

SWOSU Yearbooks
During the 2006-2007 school year, students participated in everything from palooza, to studying at the library, to having fun at Cowboys. With the fall semester beginning, students looked forward to attending athletic activities, homecoming, and the Miss Southwestern Pageant. Spring semester started out a little slick, causing the campus to close for the first time in several years. Despite a chilly start, the semester warmed up in March when actor Pauly Shore visited campus for Panorama. With spring break approaching, students were anxious for a break from studying. When classes resumed, everyone was looking forward to summer. With finals standing …

Academic Optimism In High Schools, Margaret Duffy-Friedman
Academic Optimism In High Schools, Margaret Duffy-Friedman
ETD Archive
This study contributes to the research foundation of academic optimism (Hoy, Tarter & Woolfolk Hoy, 2006) through incorporating the following three aims: to determine the relationship between academic emphasis, collective efficacy, faculty trust in students and parents, and academic optimism to explore the relationship of academic optimism with state student achievement and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standards and to identify the practices in schools that demonstrate academic emphasis, faculty trust in students and parents, and collective efficacy that comprise academic optimism. Qualitative and quantitative methods were utilized to collect quantitative survey data and qualitative interview data on academic emphasis, collective …
An Equality Perspective On Residential Child Care, Niall Hanlon
An Equality Perspective On Residential Child Care, Niall Hanlon
Articles
An equality perspective on residential child care is one which places the issues of power and oppression as central concerns of practice. This requires more than an understanding and appreciation of the nature of the inequalities that children in care experience. The residential practitioner must appreciate egalitarian values and develop the skills, competences and knowledge base to evolve programmes and strategies that promote equality. Fundamentally, equality practices require significant changes in relationships of power. This paper will outline a means of conceptualising inequalities by discussing the way that they often have an impact on children and young people in residential …

Meeting Basic Survival Needs Of The World's Least Healthy People: Toward A Framework Convention On Global Health, Lawrence O. Gostin
Meeting Basic Survival Needs Of The World's Least Healthy People: Toward A Framework Convention On Global Health, Lawrence O. Gostin
Georgetown Law Faculty Lectures and Appearances
This article searches for solutions to the most perplexing problems in global health - problems so important that they affect the fate of millions of people, with economic, political, and security ramifications for the world's population. There are a variety of solutions scholars propose to improve global health and close the yawning health gap between rich and poor: global health is in the national interests of the major State powers; States owe an ethical duty to act; or international legal norms require effective action. However, arguments based on national interest, ethics, or international law have logical weaknesses. The coincidence of …

From A Civil Libertarian To A Sanitarian: “A Life Of Learning”, Lawrence O. Gostin
Georgetown Law Faculty Lectures and Appearances
I left Harvard 15 years ago to come to Georgetown University, formed in the year of our Constitution and established by an Act of Congress. More than Oxford or Harvard, Georgetown embodied my highest ideals of using world-class scholarship to serve the needs of the most disadvantaged. The Jesuit mission of social justice, which permeates our scholarship and teaching, has deep meaning to me. And the Jesuit ideal of “the human being fully alive,” resonates with my view of the salient importance of human health and wellbeing. The ideals of equity and human fulfilment are embodied in the inscription on …
