Forgiveness As An Individual, Group, And Organizational Competency: A Literature Review And Comments, Scott C. Hammond, Susan R. Madsen Oct 2007

Forgiveness As An Individual, Group, And Organizational Competency: A Literature Review And Comments, Scott C. Hammond, Susan R. Madsen

Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications

Studying forgiveness presents a formidable challenge to the organizational scholar. Forgiveness is a concept that has cultural, moral, and behavioral implications. Generally seen as rooted in religion by many (Smith, 1988), it is also a concept that may have a significant impact within the organization. In this paper we will offer a three-part model of the notion of forgiveness. Our model is based on the observation that the existing literature on forgiveness is clustered around three levels of behavioral patterns: 1) individual forgiveness, 2) group forgiveness, and 3) organizational forgiveness. We will also present a newly developed framework with an …

Improving The Teaching Skills Of Residents As Tutors/Facilitators And Addressing The Shortage Of Faculty Facilitators For Pbl Modules., Wasim Jafri, Khalid Mumtaz, William P. Burdick, Page S. Morahan, Rosslynne Freeman, Tabassum Zehra

Department of Continuing Professional Education

BACKGROUND:

Residents play an important role in teaching of medical undergraduate students. Despite their importance in teaching undergraduates they are not involved in any formal training in teaching and leadership skills. We aimed to compare the teaching skills of residents with faculty in facilitating small group Problem Based Learning (PBL) sessions.

METHODS:

This quasi experimental descriptive comparative research involved 5 postgraduate year 4 residents and five senior faculty members. The study was conducted with all phase III (Final year) students rotating in Gastroenterology. The residents and faculty members received brief training of one month in facilitation and core principles of …

The Butterfly Danaus Chrysippus (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) In Kenya Is Variably Infected With Respect To Genotype And Body Size By A Maternally Transmitted Male-Killing Endosymbiont (Spiroplasma), Jeremy K. Herren, Ian Gordon, Peter W.H. Holland, David Smith Oct 2007

Holland, David Smith

All Peer-Reviewed Publications

Female-biased sex ratios in Danaus chrysippus (Linnaeus) (family Nymphalidae, subfamily Danainae, tribe Danaini) populations are attributed to the action of an endosymbiotic 'male-killer' bacterium of the genus Spiroplasma. In stark contrast to the extensive geographic range of their host, the Spiroplasma appears to be restricted to East Africa, where four African D. chrysippus subspecies exist sympatrically and form a hybrid zone. In this study, specimens collected at three sample sites within the hybrid zone were screened for Spiroplasma infection. The findings demonstrate that, within the hybrid zone, the frequency of Spiroplasma infection varies both spatially and temporally. Host genotype at …

Rural After-School Programs: Meeting The Needs Of At-Risk Youth And Their Families, Bethany L. Letiecq, Sandra J. Bailey Oct 2007

Rural After-School Programs: Meeting The Needs Of At-Risk Youth And Their Families, Bethany L. Letiecq, Sandra J. Bailey

Journal of Youth Development

Extant research has focused on out-of-school time among urban and suburban youth, yet there remains scant information on rural low-income youth and their families. This study examines the salience of after-school programs for rural youth. Using an ecological framework, we assess changes in youth behavior and skill acquisition based on reports from 47 youth attending after-school programs in two rural communities, along with their primary caregivers and teachers. Results indicate enhanced life skills and social behaviors among youth attendees. Implications for future research, programming, and policymaking are discussed.
