Do Herbivores Associate Flavors With Specific Consequences In Flavor Aversion Learning?, Bruce A. Kimball, Vida Billings

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

Goats were first offered a novel, maple-flavored diet paired with either lithium chloride (LiCl) or oxalic acid (OA) delivered intraruminally. Aversion to maple diet persisted for 6 days, regardless of toxin. Following a 10-day intermission, aversion to maple diet was reacquired (spontaneous recovery) among subjects previously dosed with LiCl but not for subjects receiving OA. All subjects were then offered two diets: the maple diet previously paired with LiCl or OA and a novel grape-flavored diet. Immediately following consumption of both diets, all subjects were dosed with LiCl. Preference for maple and grape diets was assessed by two-choice test. Goats …

Determination Of Sulfadimethoxine Residues In Skunk Serum By Hplc, Thomas M. Primus, Susan M. Jojola, Stacie J. Robinson, John J. Johnston

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

Sulfadimethoxine (SDM) was extracted from skunk serum and isolated by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography. SDM was detected by ultra-violet absorbance at 270 nm and quantified by comparison to an external calibration standard. Recovery data were determined by analyzing SDM fortified control serum. The overall mean recovery with relative standard deviations of SDM in fortified skunk serum samples was 99±7%. The recovery for 0.38, 5.2, and 14.2 μg/mL SDM was 96.0±7.5%, 102±6.1%, and 97.3±5.1%, respectively. The method limit of detection for SDM in skunk serum ranged from 0.032 to 0.057 μg/mL SDM with a mean value of 0.040 mg/mL SDM. …

Organizational Support For Sexual Minority Adolescents: Effects Of Level Of Youth Involvement And Diversity Training, Christine R. Regan, Marilyn Swisher, Rosemary V. Barnett Oct 2007

Organizational Support For Sexual Minority Adolescents: Effects Of Level Of Youth Involvement And Diversity Training, Christine R. Regan, Marilyn Swisher, Rosemary V. Barnett

Journal of Youth Development

A two-phase, cross-section and case study design examined the level of youth involvement in the decision-making processes of youth-serving organizations and the effects of diversity training on organizational support for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) adolescents. Results indicate the organizations studied differed with respect to levels of youth involvement, but did not significantly differ with respect to the outcome variable. In-depth analysis to open-response questions indicated organizational support is extremely varied and organizations do support diversity, but not necessarily in regard to LGBT adolescents. The LGBT content within diversity training programs is also discussed. Finally, some religious ideas or …

The Evaluation Of A Diversity Program At An Academic Library, Zheng Ye (Lan) Yang, Brenda White

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

This article describes recent diversity programming at Texas A&M University Libraries, and the evaluation of that programming. The Libraries created a Public Relations Associate for Diversity Programs and Events Coordinator position, who works with a Diversity Program Coordinating Committee. The coordinator and committee worked to meet diversity goals in communication, coordination, and celebration. They surveyed Libraries' faculty and staff on the impact of diversity programming. Most favorable programming included panel discussions by international students and by Libraries staff members with disabilities. The survey results have identified strengths and weaknesses in the program as well as suggestions for future programming.

A Budding Theory Of Willful Patent Infringement: Orange Books, Colored Pills, And Greener Verdicts, Christopher A. Harkins Oct 2007

A Budding Theory Of Willful Patent Infringement: Orange Books, Colored Pills, And Greener Verdicts, Christopher A. Harkins

Duke Law & Technology Review

The rules of engagement in the brand-name versus generic-drug war are rapidly changing. Brand-name manufacturers face increasing competition from Canadian manufacturers of generic drugs, online drug companies, and Wal-Mart® Super Centers deciding to cash in by turning a piece of the generic prescription drug business into a huge marketing campaign with offerings of generic drugs for four dollar prescriptions. Other discount drug providers are likely to follow suit in hopes of boosting customer traffic and sales of their generic drugs. Now, more than ever before, attorneys representing owners of pharmaceutical patents need to be creative with their damages theories to …

Paraumbilical Collateral Veins On Mri As Possible Protection Against Portal Venous Thrombosis In Candidates For Liver Transplantation, Sachit Verma, Donald G. Mitchell, Yulia Lakhman, Diane Bergin, Ronald J. Dolin, Cataldo Doria, Laurence Parker

Department of Radiology Faculty Papers

Background: We retrospectively evaluate the potential protective influence of patent paraumblical vein (PUV) collaterals against portal vein (PV) thrombosis and reduced PV diameter in candidates for orthotopic liver transplant (OLT)

Methods: Dynamic 3D contrast-enhanced MRI at 1.5T was obtained in 309 patients with cirrhosis without evidence of malignancy. All MR studies were reviewed by one reader for PUV collaterals, PV thrombosis and PV diameter. Statistical analysis was performed by Fisher exact tests; 50 selected studies were reviewed independently by two additional readers to determine interobserver agreement via intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).

Results: Patent PUV was noted in …
