Eigenvalue Solvers For Atomistic Simulations Of Electronic Structures With Nemo-3d, Maxim Naumov, Sunhee Lee, Ben Haley, Rajib Rahman, Hoo Ryu, Faisal Saied, Steve Clark, Gerhard Klimeck

Other Nanotechnology Publications

In the atomistic simulation of electronic structures (e.g. quantum dots, Fig. 1), it is imperative to take advantage of the most efficient parallel numerical algorithms. In order to determine the energy levels and corresponding wave functions of interest, we need to find few of the interior eigenvalues of a large sparse standard Hermitian eigenvalue problem. Several algorithms have been devised for such problems, including (P)ARPACK [1], (Block) Lanczos [2] and Tracemin [3]. In this paper, the tradeoffs of these algorithms for the solution of eigenvalue problems arising in Nanoelectronic Modeling tool NEMO-3D [4], [5] will be discussed. The effectiveness of …

Simulations Of Nanowire Transistors: Atomistic Vs. Effective Mass Models, Neophytos L. Neophytou, Abhijeet Paul, Mark S. Lundstrom, Gerhard Klimeck

Other Nanotechnology Publications

As device sizes shrink towards the nanoscale, CMOS development investigates alternative structures and devices. Existing CMOS devices will evolve to 3D non-planar devices at nanometer sizes. They will operate under strong confinement and strain, regimes where atomistic effects are important. This work investigates atomistic effects in the transport properties of nanowire devices by using a nearest-neighbor tight binding (TB) model (sp3s*d5-SO) [1] for electronic structure calculation, coupled to a 2D Poisson solver for electrostatics. The 2D cross section of a 3D device is described with an arbitrary geometrical shape such as rectangular, cylindrical and tri-gate/FinFET type of structures (Fig. 1(a-d)) …

Nemo-3d Based Atomistic Simulation Of A Double Quantum Dot Structure For Spin-Blockaded Transport, Z. Huang, B. Muralidharan, H. Ryu, Gerhard Klimeck, S. Datta Oct 2007

Nemo-3d Based Atomistic Simulation Of A Double Quantum Dot Structure For Spin-Blockaded Transport, Z. Huang, B. Muralidharan, H. Ryu, Gerhard Klimeck, S. Datta

Other Nanotechnology Publications

This work combines an atomistic electronic structure simulation with many-electron transport method to investigate the current-voltage (IV) characteristics of Double Quantum Dot (DQD) system in the spin-blockade regime [1]. This work is the combination of a two-fold effort: a) A NEMO 3-D [2] based, atomistic simulation of the geometry of the experimental setup (fig. 1a) to obtain its single electron eigen states, followed by the b) evaluation of I-V characteristics based on the many-electron spectrum of the DQD system, derived from this one-particle set. The many-electron spectrum of this structure is evaluated using a novel subspace reduction technique within the …

Robust Multi-Modal Biometric Fusion Via Multiple Svms, Jonathan Dinerstein, Sabra Dinerstein, Dan A. Ventura Oct 2007

Robust Multi-Modal Biometric Fusion Via Multiple Svms, Jonathan Dinerstein, Sabra Dinerstein, Dan A. Ventura

Faculty Publications

Existing learning-based multi-modal biometric fusion techniques typically employ a single static Support Vector Machine (SVM). This type of fusion improves the accuracy of biometric classification, but it also has serious limitations because it is based on the assumptions that the set of biometric classifiers to be fused is local, static, and complete. We present a novel multi-SVM approach to multi-modal biometric fusion that addresses the limitations of existing fusion techniques and show empirically that our approach retains good classification accuracy even when some of the biometric modalities are unavailable.

A Phenomenological Template Family For Black-Hole Coalescence Waveforms, P. Ajith, S. Babak, Y. Chen, M. Hewitson, B. Krishnan, J. T. Whelan, B. Brügmann, P. Diener, J. Gonzalez, M. Hannam, S. Husa, M. Koppitz, D. Pollney, L. Rezzolla, L. Santamaría, A. M. Sintes, U. Sperhake, J. Thornburg

Faculty Publications

Recent progress in numerical relativity has enabled us to model the non-perturbative merger phase of the binary black-hole coalescence problem. Based on these results, we propose a phenomenological family of waveforms which can model the inspiral, merger and ring-down stages of black-hole coalescence. We also construct a template bank using this family of waveforms and discuss its implementation in the search for signatures of gravitational waves produced by black-hole coalescences in the data of ground-based interferometers. This template bank might enable us to extend the present inspiral searches to higher-mass binary black-hole systems, i.e., systems with total mass greater than …
