Spilling: Expanding Hand Held Interaction To Touch Table Displays, Jeffrey Clement, Dan R. Olsen Jr., Aaron Pace Oct 2007

Spilling: Expanding Hand Held Interaction To Touch Table Displays, Jeffrey Clement, Dan R. Olsen Jr., Aaron Pace

Faculty Publications

We envision a nomadic model of interaction where the personal computer fits in your pocket. Such a computer is extremely limited in screen space. A technique is described for “spilling” the display of a hand held computer onto a much larger table top display surface. Because our model of nomadic computing frequently involves the use of untrusted display services we restrict interactive input to the hand held. Navigation techniques such as scrolling or turning the display can be expressed through the table top. The orientation and position of the hand held on the table top is detected using three conductive …

Control System For Suppression Of Boom Or Arm Oscillation, Kee Moon Oct 2007

Control System For Suppression Of Boom Or Arm Oscillation, Kee Moon

Michigan Tech Patents

A control for a working apparatus having a boom arm. The apparatus includes a controller operable to receive signals from at least one pressure sensor. The at least one pressure sensor detects pressure of hydraulic fluid in at least one chamber of a control valve. The controller compares the signals from the at least one pressure sensor to parameters generated by testing the working apparatus. The controller predicts boom arm oscillations based on the comparison of the signals with the parameters, and generates a control signal in response to predicting the boom arm oscillations.

Anti-Icing Coatings And Methods, Russell G. Alger

Michigan Tech Patents

A method of inhibiting or preventing bonding between snow or ice and a substrate. The method includes applying an adhesive to the substrate, broadcasting an aggregate onto the adhesive, the aggregate having the capacity to receive an anti-icing chemical into the aggregate, and applying the anti-icing chemical onto the aggregate so that at least a portion of the anti-icing chemical is received into at least a portion of the aggregate.

Module 2 - Concrete And Formal Reasoning: Introduction

Module 2: Concrete and Formal Reasoning

You have just responded to a few puzzles and examined responses of students answering these same puzzles. Observations of many children and adolescents attempting to perform similar tasks have led Jean Piaget and other psychologists to formulate theories concerning the mental processes individuals use to deal with problem situations. In this module, we shall introduce you to the idea of concrete and formal reasoning, a feature of Piaget's theory we consider important for college teachers. Modules 3 and 4 will give you more details and examples to illustrate what we say here. The later modules will introduce you to other …

Organizational Support For Sexual Minority Adolescents: Effects Of Level Of Youth Involvement And Diversity Training, Christine R. Regan, Marilyn Swisher, Rosemary V. Barnett Oct 2007

Organizational Support For Sexual Minority Adolescents: Effects Of Level Of Youth Involvement And Diversity Training, Christine R. Regan, Marilyn Swisher, Rosemary V. Barnett

Journal of Youth Development

A two-phase, cross-section and case study design examined the level of youth involvement in the decision-making processes of youth-serving organizations and the effects of diversity training on organizational support for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) adolescents. Results indicate the organizations studied differed with respect to levels of youth involvement, but did not significantly differ with respect to the outcome variable. In-depth analysis to open-response questions indicated organizational support is extremely varied and organizations do support diversity, but not necessarily in regard to LGBT adolescents. The LGBT content within diversity training programs is also discussed. Finally, some religious ideas or …

Exact Filtered Back Projection (Fbp) Algorithm For Spiral Computer Tomography With Variable Pitch [Us], Alexander Katsevich Oct 2007

Exact Filtered Back Projection (Fbp) Algorithm For Spiral Computer Tomography With Variable Pitch [Us], Alexander Katsevich

UCF Patents

Reconstructing images of objects spirally scanned with two-dimensional detectors with a novel algorithm under a variable pitch (nonconstant speed), where the object is not restricted to moving at a constant velocity. The object can move at variable speeds(increasing, decreasing, combinations thereof) during the scan of the object. The image reconstruction process is proven to create an exact image of the object under the ideal circumstances. The algorithm can have a convolution-based FBP (Filtered Back Projection) structure and works very efficiently. The algorithm uses less computer power and combines the benefits of Exact Algorithms and Approximate algorithms. An object can be …

A Budding Theory Of Willful Patent Infringement: Orange Books, Colored Pills, And Greener Verdicts, Christopher A. Harkins Oct 2007

A Budding Theory Of Willful Patent Infringement: Orange Books, Colored Pills, And Greener Verdicts, Christopher A. Harkins

Duke Law & Technology Review

The rules of engagement in the brand-name versus generic-drug war are rapidly changing. Brand-name manufacturers face increasing competition from Canadian manufacturers of generic drugs, online drug companies, and Wal-Mart® Super Centers deciding to cash in by turning a piece of the generic prescription drug business into a huge marketing campaign with offerings of generic drugs for four dollar prescriptions. Other discount drug providers are likely to follow suit in hopes of boosting customer traffic and sales of their generic drugs. Now, more than ever before, attorneys representing owners of pharmaceutical patents need to be creative with their damages theories to …

A Generalized Two-Dimensional Model To Reconstruct The Impact Phase In Automobile Collisions, Regis Agenor David Oct 2007

A Generalized Two-Dimensional Model To Reconstruct The Impact Phase In Automobile Collisions, Regis Agenor David

Theses and Dissertations

Automobile accident reconstruction has been facilitated by the development of computer based modules to allow evaluation of evidence gathered at the accident scenes. Although the computer modules are based in fundamental physical laws, an understanding of these laws by the user is required for proper application of the computer model in a given accident scenario. Vehicle collision analysis techniques generally separate the collision into three phases: pre-impact, impact, and post impact. The intent of the research is to provide a generalized model to reconstruct two dimensional impact problems in the area of accident reconstruction. There are currently two modeling techniques …
