Elastometric Sensing Using Higher Flexural Eigenmodes Of Microcantilevers, Matthew A. Spletzer, Arvind Raman, R. Reifenberger Oct 2007

Elastometric Sensing Using Higher Flexural Eigenmodes Of Microcantilevers, Matthew A. Spletzer, Arvind Raman, R. Reifenberger

Birck and NCN Publications

We present a method to detect with high sensitivity the viscoelastic property changes of sensor coatings on microcantilever arrays due to radiation, analyte binding, or adsorption. The method uses higher order flexural eigenmodes to identify the location and magnitude of the nonuniform elasticity changes in the microcantilever coating. We demonstrate the method by monitoring the time evolution of resonance frequencies and Q factors of different flexural eigenmodes of microcantilevers functionalized with a small drop of a photosensitive polymer as it is exposed to ultraviolet radiation. The method is particularly well suited for measuring quantitatively the time varying viscoelastic properties of …

We searched for an anisotropic background of gravitational waves using data from the LIGO S4 science run and a method that is optimized for point sources. This is appropriate if, for example, the gravitational wave background is dominated by a small number of distinct astrophysical sources. No signal was seen. Upper limit maps were produced assuming two different power laws for the source strain power spectrum. For an f-3 power law and using the 50 Hz to 1.8 kHz band the upper limits on the source strain power spectrum vary between 1.2×10-48Hz-1 (100Hz/f)3 and 1.2×10-47Hz-1 (100Hz/f)3, depending on the position …

The cross section for high-ET dijet production in photoproduction has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 81.8pb-1. The events were required to have a virtuality of the incoming photon, Q2, of less than 1GeV2 and a photon-proton center-of-mass energy in the range 14215GeV and pseudorapidity (with respect to the proton beam direction) requirements of -1<ηjet1,2

Evaluation Of Constructed Wetland Performance In New Mexico, 2007, Jennie R. Skancke Oct 2007

Evaluation Of Constructed Wetland Performance In New Mexico, 2007, Jennie R. Skancke

Water Resources Professional Project Reports

Wastewater treatment wetlands, also referred to as constructed wetland systems (CWS), were installed in New Mexico and other states during the 1990s to provide low cost and low maintenance wastewater treatment options to small communities served by on-site treatment systems. An analysis completed in 1995 examined the design and performance of 18 subsurface flow constructed wetlands. At that time, most of the systems were relatively new and little information was obtained about their long term performance. This project examined the performance of 11 constructed wetlands built between 1990 and 1996, five of which were included in the 1995 study. The …
