Integrated Management Of Stem Rot Disease (Sclerotium Rolfsii) Of Groundnut (Arachis Hypogaea L.) Using Rhizobium And Trichoderma Harzianum (Itcc - 4572), S. Ganesan, R. Ganesh Kuppusamy, R. Sekar

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Soil-borne plant pathogenic fungi cause heavy crop losses all over the world. With variable climate from region to region, most crops grown in India are susceptible to diseases caused by soil-borne fungal pathogens. Among tropical and subtropical land crops, groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important oil seed crop, providing vegetable oil as human food and oil cake meal as animal poultry feed. A large number of diseases attack groundnut plants in India; of these, stem rot (collar rot) caused by Sclerotium rolfsii is the most common disease. Certain well-studied chemical pesticide management strategies are available for reducing damage by …

The Morphology, Taxonomy, And Distribution Of Specimens Of Darevskia Clarkorum (Sauria: Lacertidae: Darevskia) Collected From Turkey’S Eastern Black Sea Region, Çeti̇n Ilgaz

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In all, 103 specimens of Clark's lizard, Darevskia clarkorum (Darevsky and Vedmederja, 1977), from 6 localities in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey were examined in terms of pholidosis characteristics, morphometric measurements, and color and pattern features. Kolmogorov-Smirnov testing across all populations verified sexual dimorphism in the Ortacalar and Hemşin populations, regarding transversal series of ventral plates (P < 0.05). According to the Mann-Whitney U test, 16 pholidosis characteristics showed differences among the populations (P < 0.05). For comparison of morphometric measurements, 4 morphometric indices and ratios were developed. According to the results of independent t-testing, no differences were found between males and females among the populations. One-way variance analyses based on 4 morphometric indices and ratios confirmed that head index, snout-vent length/tail length, and tail length/total body length showed differences among the populations (P < 0.05). Regarding pholidosis characteristics (except rates of the presence of a masseteric plate and contact between the rostral and internasal plate), morphometric measurements, and color and pattern features, the specimens collected from 6 different localities were similar to D. clarkorum specimens mentioned in the literature. Furthermore, the known range of the species in Turkey has been extended.

Life Cycle Of Gammarus Pulex (L.) In The River Yeşilırmak, Mustafa Duran

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Monthly sampling of Gammarus pulex for 45 months in the River Yeşilırmak showed that the mean seasonal population density increased to a maximum in summer, and then declined to the lowest level in winter. There was a consistent seasonal pattern of body length distributions, characterised by the arrival of a strong cohort of new juveniles in spring and early summer. The ovigerous adults were few in autumn, peaked around January to March, and were virtually absent from July to October. Estimated sex ratios obtained from the field in general seem to show that females predominated, except in summer.

Zoometrical Body Measurements And Their Relation With Liveweight In Native Turkish Geese, Mustafa Saatci, Muammer Ti̇lki̇ Jan 2007

Zoometrical Body Measurements And Their Relation With Liveweight In Native Turkish Geese, Mustafa Saatci, Muammer Ti̇lki̇

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aims of this study were to determine the body measurements of native Turkish geese and to define the relationship between these measurements and liveweight. The differences in head diameter and neck length between the sexes became significant at 10, 12, 14 and 16 weeks of age (P < 0.05-0.01). The beak and wing lengths increased with age and were longer in males than in females at 12, 14 and 16 weeks of age. The effect of sex on body and trunk length was significant at 14 and 16 weeks (P < 0.05-0.01). Chest depth, girth and width increased with age. The positive correlations (0.88-0.97) of liveweight with head diameter, neck length, body length, trunk length, chest girth, wing length and metatarsus length at 2 weeks of age were highly significant. The most reliable prediction from the regression analyses was between liveweight and body length + chest girth in weeks 2 and 8 (R^2 = 94%). Our study presents the body measurements and the correlations between these measurements and liveweight in geese of different ages. These correlations might be used to evaluate the liveweight of studied geese population and for selection based on liveweight.
