Role Of Synuclein Proteins In Auditory Function, Catherine A. Young
Independent Studies and Capstones
The recent discovery of synuclein proteins in peripheral auditory tissues has prompted a closer examination of the role of these proteins in hearing. In the present study, auditory brainstem response thresholds of synuclein knockout mice are compared to wild type mice.

Reading Differently, Rereading For Difference In Versions Of Rimbaud's "Mouvement", Brian G. Kennelly
Reading Differently, Rereading For Difference In Versions Of Rimbaud's "Mouvement", Brian G. Kennelly
World Languages and Cultures
How to engage students to reread Arthur Rimbaud’s 1886 poem “Mouvement” differently? What can they learn about the poem and in the process about themselves as readers of literature through its various versions and English language translations? Might rereading for difference hold pedagogical promise? How might a comparative study of the poem’s various versions in French and in English translation favor active reading and help students embrace the poem as differently meaningful because of its modernity?

Student Engagement In The Teaching And Learning Of Grammar, Peter Smagorinsky, Laura Wright, Sharon Murphy Augustine, Cindy O'Donnell-Allen, Bonnie C. Konopak
School of Education Scholarship
This article reports a study of coauthor Laura Wright as she learned to teach secondary school grammar in four settings: university teacher education program, student teaching, her first job, and second job. Data for her university program came from Laura’s journals and projects from her course work. Data from student teaching and her first job included interviews and field notes from observations and interviews and self-reports by Laura of teaching conducted on other occasions. Information from her second job came from self-reports by Laura. The data were analyzed using a system that identified the pedagogical tools Laura employed and the …
A Wave Of The Magic Wand: Fairy Godmothers In Contemporary American Media, Jeana Jorgensen
A Wave Of The Magic Wand: Fairy Godmothers In Contemporary American Media, Jeana Jorgensen
Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS
The increased personification of fairy godmothers in contemporary American media corresponds to an aspect of the American worldview that emphasizes "magical" quick fixes and solutions. The two fairy-tale pastiche works informing this study are a novel, The Fairy Godmother, by fantasy author Mercedes Lackey, and a movie, Shrek 2. Both of these works feature fairy godmother characters that depart from canonical folktale and fairy-tale depictions. Associated with fate and wisdom, fairy godmothers act much as folklorists do by rewarding traditional behavior with gifts. Recent fairy godmother roles are hybrid and multivocal, illuminating ideologies and power structures in both society and …

Although pests and diseases occur right across Australia, some States and Territories – and even some regions within a State – are free of specific ones. Quarantine programs regulate the interstate movement of goods which could carry pests and diseases. Minimising their spread is vital because, once established, they can be difficult and expensive to eradicate or control.

Resource management technical reports
Large proportions of Western Australia's dryland farms suffer from water supply problems in the form of shortages, poor quality or combinations of these two factors. A regional study for the North-eastern and Eastern Wheatbelt of Western Australia was undertaken. The base data used to develop water supply areas included soil type, landscape units, geology, hydrogeology, native vegetation and existing far water resource infrastructure.
