The Influence Of Age On Knowledge And Medication Usage By Persons Attending Rural North Florida Clinics

Medication therapy is an important component of the comprehensive treatment plan designed to maintain or improve health. If patients do not take prescribed medications correctly or are non-adherent, less successful therapy occurs. Reasons given for noncompliance include cost, misunderstanding the therapy, side effects, forgetfulness, or a belief that the medication is not effective or necessary. This study had two goals, the first was to evaluate medication use while simultaneously assessing knowledge, compliance, tolerance, and perceived efficacy. Drug-related problems, if any, were also identified. The second goal was to develop methods to improve patient outcomes based upon identified problems. For eight …

Most ab initio pseudoknot predicting methods provide very few folding scenarios for a given RNA sequence and have low sensitivities. RNA researchers, in many cases, would rather sacrifice the specificity for a much higher sensitivity for pseudoknot detection. In this study, we introduce the Pseudoknot Local Motif Model and Dynamic Partner Sequence Stacking (PLMM_DPSS) algorithm which predicts all PLM model pseudoknots within an RNA sequence in a neighboring-region-interferencefree fashion. The PLM model is derived from the existing Pseudobase entries. The innovative DPSS approach calculates the optimally lowest stacking energy between two partner sequences. Characterization Of Hsp70 Binding And Nucleotide Exchange By The Yeast Hsp110 Chaperone Sse1, Lance Shaner, Rui Sousa, Kevin A Morano

SSE1 and SSE2 encode the essential yeast members of the Hsp70-related Hsp110 molecular chaperone family. Both mammalian Hsp110 and the Sse proteins functionally interact with cognate cytosolic Hsp70s as nucleotide exchange factors. We demonstrate here that Sse1 forms high-affinity (Kd approximately 10-8 M) heterodimeric complexes with both yeast Ssa and mammalian Hsp70 chaperones and that binding of ATP to Sse1 is required for binding to Hsp70s. Sse1.Hsp70 heterodimerization confers resistance to exogenously added protease, indicative of conformational changes in Sse1 resulting in a more compact structure. Construction of biomotors is an exciting area of scientific research that holds great promise for the development of new technologies with broad potential applications in areas such as the energy industry and medicine. Herein, we demonstrate the fabrication of prealigned microarrays of motile Escherichia coli bacterial cells on SiOx substrates. To prepare these arrays, holed surfaces with a gold layer on the bottom of the holes were utilized. The attachment of bacteria to the holes was achieved via nonspecific interactions using poly-l-lysine hydrobromide (PLL). The Vacant Home Space Conditioning Study was sponsored by Florida Power & Light (FPL) as part of its Conservation R&D Program and carried out by the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC). In the US, about one in four retiree "snowbirds" make Florida their destination to escape the northern cold. Snowbird residents number more than 900,000 in Florida during the winter. In some counties of FPL's territory these seasonal residents compose up to 15% of the population (Shih, 1981). The paper provides for a method of the factor analysis of the Degree of Total Leverage (DTL) used to measure the risk of an enterprise or an investment undertaking. A high DTL indicates a growing risk, and due to the importance of that criterion it is relevant to identify the phenomena which determine the DTL and the strength of their impact on the DTL. Persistent Performance Of The Banking Sector In Poland, Krzysztof Jackowicz

This study investigates persistence in the performance of commercial banks in Poland. Using a data over the period 1994-2004 and a traditional non-parametric methods based on contingency tables, the author evidenced severe performance persistence. Persistence measures reached high during the mid 1990s and after 2002. Time series patterns for test statistics suggested that the persistent performance of Polish banks was influenced by the financial standing of the banking industry.

This article touches upon the issue of allocating indirect costs. Selecting the method of dividing indirect costs is a key determinant of the calculation results, and therefore also the generated management information. The quality of the applied cost carriers determines the credibility of the account of costs in an enterprise. Therefore the selection of cost carriers is an essential element of the calculation process. The article provides for the major characteristics of an effective cost carrier and the proposed methods of the selection and verification of adopted solutions.

The paper analyzes the costs of labour, which, apart from employees' wages, comprise a number of other components. The authors pointed out to close relations between labour costs and the global network, i.e. the Internet. The research was conducted on the area of the świętokrzyskie region in Poland; it provides for an advantage to analyze the methods of costs reduction in compliance with Polish legislation. The data presented in the paper indicate dynamic growth in employers' incomes resulting from the application of non-standard forms of employment.
