Breast self-examinations (BSE) and skin self-examinations (SSE) provide people with a cost-effective and time-efficient approach to the detection of cancer. Given the utility of these self-examination behaviors, it is important to determine who is likely to perform them regularly and why. Prior research has demonstrated a relationship of attitudes and self-efficacy with performance of and intention to practice the exams. Body image, although not previously studied, can be hypothesized to influence performance of these behaviors as well. Within the worldwide business community, many analysis tools and techniques have evolved to assist in the evaluation and encouragement of financial health and fiscal viability. However, in the educational community, such analysis is uncommon. It has long been argued that educational institutions bear little resemblance to, and should not be treated like, businesses. This research identifies an educational environment where educational institutions are, indeed, businesses, and may greatly benefit from the use of business analyses. The nature of law and legal practice is changing with the addition of interdisciplinary scholars to law-school faculties and interdisciplinary studies to the law curriculum. However, the accessibility of non-law disciplinarians in the rest of the university raises the question of the cost-effectiveness and opportunity costs of importing them directly into the law school. Although the Court in Miranda stated that custodial interrogation is designed to undermine the will of the interogee, it has not prohibited the admission of confession given under such circumstances. It rather assumed that it is possible to dispel the pressures of a custodial interrogation by means of proper safeguards. The article claims that there is no plausible way to dispel the coercive atmosphere engendered by a custodial interrogation. Custody today constitutes a refined version of torture used in the past in order to extract confessions. The nonparametric transformation model for survival time that makes no parametric assumptions on both the transformation function and the error is appealing in its flexibility. The nonparametric transformation model makes no assumption on the forms of the transformation function and the error distribution. This model is appealing in its flexibility for modeling censored survival data. Current approaches for estimation of the regression parameters involve maximizing discontinuous objective functions, which are numerically infeasible to implement in the case of multiple covariates. Strategic Partnerships And The Internationalisation Process Of Software Smes, Aileen Kennedy, Kathy Keeney

Conference papers

This research investigates the strategic partnering activities of software SMEs (small to medium sized enterprises), their motivations to engage in strategic partnerships as part of the internationalisation process, the key benefits achieved and the main challenges encountered. A qualitative research methodology focusing on Irish indigenous firms is used. Findings suggest that strategic partnerships were initiated to take advantage of firm synergy, reputation and credibility advantages. Partnerships also served as an important foreign market entry mechanism allowing firms to accelerate sales cycles and reduce risk in overseas markets. Challenges facing firms included partner selection and issues of control. Directions for further …

The Effects Of Benzo-Α-Pyrene On The Insulin-Like Growth Factor-I Gene, Brittany Albright Epperson

The purpose of this study was to look at the genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of benzo-α-pyrene (BαP), a chemical mutagen that is present in cigarette smoke, on the insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) gene. Women who smoke during pregnancy are more likely to have a growth-restricted baby. We hypothesized that BαP exerts its effects through genotoxic and cytotoxic avenues. The cytotoxicity is manifested by chromosomal abnormalities and a decrease in the rate of cell division. The genotoxicity is manifested by changes in certain genes known to be important in mammalian fetal development such as IGF-I. IGF-I is implicated in intrauterine growth …
