Kelangsungan Hidup Bayi Di Perkotaan Dan Pedesaan Indonesia, Demsa Simbolon

Kelangsungan hidup bayi di Indonesia yang masih rendah terlihat pada angka kematian bayi (AKB) yang menempati posisi tertinggi di Asean, kondisi intermediate rock dan sangat bervariasi. Penelitian yang menggunakan sumber data sekunder SDKI 2002-2003 ini bertujuan mengetahui gambaran kelangsungan hidup bayi di wilayah perkotaan dan pedesaan di Indonesia serta berbagai faktor yang berpengaruh. Besar sampel yang digunakan adalah 11.588 terdiri dari 4.769 bayi di perko- taan dan 6.819 bayi di pedesaan. Metoda analisis yang digunakan meliputi metode life table dan regresi cox. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan probabilitas kelangsungan hidup bayi di perkotaan (98,59%) lebih tinggi daripada bayi di pedesaan (97,54%) dan …

Indonesia masih menghadapi masalah kesehatan yang berhubungan dengan kondisi lingkungan yang jelek, seperti infestasi cacing usus yang ditularkan melalui tanah (Soil Transmitted Helminths). Infestasi cacing pada anak akan mengganggu pertumbuhan, menurunkan kemampuan fisik, produktifitas belajar dan intelektualitas. Hasil Pemeriksaan yang dilakukan di beberapa SD di Kecamatan Stabat dan Kecamatan Hinai menemukan prevalensi kecacingan berada pada kisaran 30-60%. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai prevalensi infestasi kecacingan pada anak SD di Kecamatan Sei Bingai, Kabupaten Langkat serta mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya. The growing popularity and use of therapeutic touch (TT) is an issue that has generated controversy and concern within the medical community. While anecdotal and traditional scientific evidence suggest that TT would be an advantageous addition for clinics and hospitals to include in their armamentarium of complementary interventions within the realm of traditional medicine, TT has not become widely available in the U.S. One reason for the lack of availability may be the dearth of conclusive scientific support for TT's efficacy and, therefore, its inclusion in clinic and hospital treatment planning would give it the appearance of legitimate practice, which …

Pregnancy during adolescence represents a challenge to society as a whole. Its incidence is increasing and brings about social and medical consequences to both the teen mothers and their children. The purpose of this study was to evaluate pregnant teenager involvement in sexual activity and the social context. The group studied comprised 152 pregnant teenagers attending the Department of Pediatrics, Santa Casa de Sao Paulo (SCSP) General Hospital. All information was analyzed. The age at first intercourse was 14.2 years and the average period between first intercourse and pregnancy was 1.4 years. Most pregnancies (75%) were neither planned nor wanted, …

Jumlah kasus flu burung pada manusia meningkat sangat pesat. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran epidemiologi penyakit flu burung (Avian Influenza/AI) pada kejadian luar biasa di 5 provinsi Indonesia in 2005-2006. Studi ini mengunakan sumber data sekunder data surveilens, sub direktorat Surveilens, Depkes RI, pada periode Juli 2005-2006. Dari 28 kasus konfirmasi ditemukan banyak pada pria (57.1%). Sekitar 89.3% kasus memperlihatkan gejala demam tinggi (>38°C), batuk dan masalah pernapasan dan sekitar 80% diantaranya meninggal dunia. Gejala tersebut mengindikasikan kerusakan jaringan paru-paru pada tubuh penderita. Berdasarkan laporan hasil pemeriksaan laboratorium, terlihat bahwa 60.7% penderita mengalami penurunan kadar leukosit (leucopenia) dan …

Background

Many genes produce multiple transcripts due to alternative splicing or utilization of alternative transcription initiation/termination sites. This 'transcriptome expansion' is thought to increase phenotypic complexity by allowing a single locus to produce several functionally distinct proteins. However, sex, genetic and developmental variation in the representation of alternative transcripts has never been examined systematically. Here, we describe a genome-wide analysis of sex-specific expression of alternative transcripts in Drosophila melanogaster.

Wolves (Canis lupus) have expanded their distribution into areas of the midwest United States that have not had wolves for several decades. With recolonization of wolves into agricultural areas, there is increasing concern of wolf–livestock conflicts. To assess the risk wolves may pose to livestock, we initiated a 3-year study investigating the activity patterns, movements, habitat use, visitation to livestock pastures by wolves, and the occurrence of depredation events in an agricultural–wildland matrix in northwestern Minnesota, USA. From June 1997 to November 1999, we captured 23 wolves, including pups, from 3 packs; we radio-collared 16 of these wolves. …

I am an artist, and I use cartoons. My work consists mainly of images that communicate to the viewer through recognizable forms. I also use text to help tell my stories. I often create visual elements that function in place of text or information. I use a third visual tool, a hybrid descendant of images and words: the cartoon. Cartoons, once situated at the margins of visual discourse, now have a place in the fine art world. There are comics and animated television shows created for adult audiences. Biological heat transfer depends on many factors; however it is necessary to understand the cooling process to design safe and efficient meat cooling techniques. For this reason the convective heat transfer coefficient h of a five pound processed boneless pork ham was evaluated by two methods using a similarly shaped aluminum block. A Lumped Parameter approach in which mass transfer was ignored resulted in a heat transfer coefficient value of 5.10 W/m²K. A second method, which included mass transfer, resulted in a value of 9.11 W/m²K. These values fell within the expected range of 5-20 W/m …

The interpretation of single-molecule measurements is greatly complicated by the presence of multiple fluorescent labels. However, many molecular systems of interest consist of multiple interacting components. We investigate this issue using multiply labeled dextran polymers that we intentionally photobleach to the background on a single-molecule basis. Hidden Markov models allow for unsupervised analysis of the data to determine the number of fluorescent subunits involved in the fluorescence intermittency of the 6-carboxytetramethylrhodamine labels by counting the discrete steps in fluorescence intensity. We have developed a statistical method for the analysis of array based CGH data to detect genomic DNA copy number changes. Our method allows us to answer the biologically relevant questions (what is the probability that a given gene or region has increased or decreased copy number changes) in a clear and simple way, within a rigorous statistical framework. We use a non-homogeneous Hidden Markov Model that incorporates distance between genes, a crucial requirement to analyze data from platforms where distances between probes is highly variable. Background: Cartilage disorders affect millions of people in the United States alone, with effects ranging from poor skeletal development and joint pain to shortened lifespan and perinatal lethality. Many of these disorders have their root in defects of collagen, type XI collagen being among the most important. A mouse model of such a type XI collagen defect is the chondrodysplasia (cho) mutant. Mice homozygous for this null mutation in the Col11a1 gene do not express the α1 chain of type XI collagen. This results in a functional knockout of type XI collagen, leading to insufficient skeletal development and perinatal lethality. …

Anchoring functions of collagen VII depend on its ability to form homotypic fibrils and to bind to other macromolecules to form heterotypic complexes. Biosensor-based binding assays were employed to analyze the kinetics of the NC1 domain-mediated binding of collagen VII to laminin 5, collagen IV, and collagen I. We showed that collagen VII interacts with laminin 5 and collagen IV with Kd values of 10-9 M. In contrast, the NC1-mediated binding to collagen I was weak with a Kd value of 10-6 M. Binding assays also showed that the NC1 domain utilizes the same region to bind to both laminin …

Nurses have a key role in promoting healthy lifestyles to reduce incidence of disease in adults. Since the 1980¿s, researchers have recognized readiness as a key component of adopting healthy lifestyle change. Prochaska¿s transtheoretical model, which contains readiness, or stage of change, served as the theoretical framework for the current study. In part one of this study, secondary students¿ mathematics and science achievement levels in a Six-Period Daily (SPD) schedule were compared with those in a Rotate-Eight Block (REB) schedule (eight macroperiods in a two day rotation). In part two, alumni were surveyed to compare current opinions of the schedules¿ effectiveness overall and on two subscales. Archival test data and demographic information were obtained on two graduated classes in a selected suburban Midwestern high school, enrollment grades 9 to 12 of approximately 1000 students.
