The Effects Of Victim’S Substance Use And Relationship Closeness On Mock Jurors’ Judgments In An Acquaintance Rape Case, Ashley A. Wenger, Brian H. Bornstein Oct 2006

The Effects Of Victim’S Substance Use And Relationship Closeness On Mock Jurors’ Judgments In An Acquaintance Rape Case, Ashley A. Wenger, Brian H. Bornstein

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

Previous research has demonstrated that jurors perceive a female victim who is drunk at the time when she is sexually assaulted as less credible and more deserving of such punishment than a sober victim. In this experiment, we investigated the effect of an alleged acquaintance rape victim’s type of substance use and closeness of relationship with the defendant on the judgments of 152 student mock jurors. Participants read a case summary and answered a series of questions about their impressions of the actors and actions involved in the case. Participants perceived a victim who was sober at the time of …

Ab Initio Modeling Of The Herpesvirus Vp26 Core Domain Assessed By Cryoem Density., Matthew L. Baker, Wen Jiang, William J. Wedemeyer, Frazer J. Rixon, David Baker, Wah Chiu

Department of Biological Sciences Faculty Publications

Efforts in structural biology have targeted the systematic determination of all protein structures through experimental determination or modeling. In recent years, 3-D electron cryomicroscopy (cryoEM) has assumed an increasingly important role in determining the structures of these large macromolecular assemblies to intermediate resolutions (6–10 Å). While these structures provide a snapshot of the assembly and its components in well-defined functional states, the resolution limits the ability to build accurate structural models. In contrast, sequence-based modeling techniques are capable of producing relatively robust structural models for isolated proteins or domains. In this work, we developed and applied a hybrid modeling approach, …

The Legacy Of Leaded Gasoline In Bottom Sediment Of Small Rural Reservoirs, Kyle E. Juracek, Andrew C. Ziegler Oct 2006

The Legacy Of Leaded Gasoline In Bottom Sediment Of Small Rural Reservoirs, Kyle E. Juracek, Andrew C. Ziegler

United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications

The historical and ongoing lead (Pb) contamination caused by the 20th-century use of leaded gasoline was investigated by an analysis of bottom sediment in eight small rural reservoirs in eastern Kansas, USA. For the reservoirs that were completed before or during the period of maximum Pb emissions from vehicles (i.e., the 1940s through the early 1980s) and that had a major highway in the basin, increased Pb concentrations reflected the pattern of historical leaded gasoline use. For at least some of these reservoirs, residual Pb is still being delivered from the basins. There was no evidence of increased Pb deposition …

Large Cluster Asymptotics For Gee: Working Correlation Models, Hyoju Chung, Thomas Lumley Oct 2006

Large Cluster Asymptotics For Gee: Working Correlation Models, Hyoju Chung, Thomas Lumley

UW Biostatistics Working Paper Series

This paper presents large cluster asymptotic results for generalized estimating equations. The complexity of working correlation model is characterized in terms of the number of working correlation components to be estimated. When the cluster size is relatively large, we may encounter a situation where a high-dimensional working correlation matrix is modeled and estimated from the data. In the present asymptotic setting, the cluster size and the complexity of working correlation model grow with the number of independent clusters. We show the existence, weak consistency and asymptotic normality of marginal regression parameter estimators using the results of empirical process theory and …
