Leadership And Job Satisfaction, Stephanie Brooke Jan 2006

Leadership And Job Satisfaction, Stephanie Brooke

Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)

The objective of this research is to understand the impact of leadership style on employee job satisfaction in an effort to improve leader-employee relations in nonprofit child care settings. Since turnover rates, separation costs, vacancy costs, and training costs are high in child care centers (Vickers, 2002), providing strategies for increasing job satisfaction will lead to a more stable environment for children and their families, promote positive leader member relations, and strengthen the organizational climate. Since leadership style can critically influence employee satisfaction, this study is of significant importance in promoting social change. Specifically, it focuses on a unique industry, …

Race, Ethnicity, And Language Of Patients: Hospital Practices Regarding Collection Of Information To Address Disparities In Health Care, Marsha Regenstein, Donna Sickler Jan 2006

Race, Ethnicity, And Language Of Patients: Hospital Practices Regarding Collection Of Information To Address Disparities In Health Care, Marsha Regenstein, Donna Sickler

Health Policy and Management Faculty Publications

2003 Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, Unequal Treatment: Confronting Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care, identified strong evidence of disparities in the health care of racial and ethnic minorities not explained by differences in health insurance coverage and income. Among ways to eliminate these inequalities the IOM report recommended enhanced collection of patient race and ethnicity data. National Public Health and Hospital Institute researchers surveyed 500 non-federal acute care hospitals on their collection of patient race, ethnicity and preferred language information to understand data collection practices in the U.S. hospital industry. The researchers also surveyed 64 safety net hospitals …

A Dose Of Reality: Assessing The Federal Trade Commission/Department Of Justice Report In An Uninsured, Underserved, And Vulnerable Population Context, Sara J. Rosenbaum Jan 2006

A Dose Of Reality: Assessing The Federal Trade Commission/Department Of Justice Report In An Uninsured, Underserved, And Vulnerable Population Context, Sara J. Rosenbaum

Health Policy and Management Faculty Publications

Despite the size of their report, the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice pay virtually no attention to tens of millions of uninsured and underinsured persons. By focusing on an increasingly rarified group of health care customers—healthy, affluent, and highly insured—the report takes on an untethered quality, with only the slightest tip of the hat to its own limitations. Furthermore, the report overstates the extent of legal constraints on the market, in particular, the degree to which the market is free to select its customers and tailor its goods and services to the best risks. By miscasting the legal …

An Ethnographic Interpretation Of The Smoke Rising And Smoke Descending Ceremonial Attire Of The Sa'dan Malimbong Toraja, Maria Christou Jan 2006

An Ethnographic Interpretation Of The Smoke Rising And Smoke Descending Ceremonial Attire Of The Sa'dan Malimbong Toraja, Maria Christou

Textile Society of America: Symposium Proceedings

The modern Toraja ceremonial attire worn for the smoke rising and the smoke descending rituals are woven in the Sa'dan Malimbong villages on back strap looms with a continuous warp using both continuous and discontinuous two-faced supplementary weft decorative elements (Christou, 1997; 2005). The smoke rising, or Rambu-Tuka', and smoke descending, or Rambu- Solo', ceremonies are a body of rituals associated with the traditional Toraja religion, or Aluk Todolo; therefore, they form the belief structure of pre-Islamic and Christian Tana Toraja (Mattulada, 1978, p. 135). The style and design elements associated with the traditional religion persist despite changes in materials …

This includes the bus bombing of the French engineers, Hyderi mosque bomb blast and various other bomb blasts inside the city of Karachi. All these disasters were successfully managed within the premises of AKU. This earthquake relief activity was the first of its kind when the AKU …

Michigan Bovine Tuberculosis Bibliography and Database

Tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium bovis, was first diagnosed in African buffalo in South Africa’s Kruger National Park in 1990. Over the past 15 years the disease has spread northwards leaving only the most northern buffalo herds unaffected. Evidence suggests that 10 other small and large mammalian species, including large predators, are spillover hosts. Wildlife tuberculosis has also been diagnosed in several adjacent private game reserves and in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, the third largest game reserve in South Africa.

The tuberculosis epidemic has a number of implications, for which the full effect of some might only be seen in the long-term. …

Evaluation Of Efficacy Of Self Breast Examination For Breast Cancer Prevention: A Cost Effective Screening Tool, Sanah Baig, Tazeen S. Ali Jan 2006

Evaluation Of Efficacy Of Self Breast Examination For Breast Cancer Prevention: A Cost Effective Screening Tool, Sanah Baig, Tazeen S. Ali

School of Nursing & Midwifery

Breast cancer is the most prevalent neoplasm among females and every year the number of associated deaths increases so that there is a dire need for implementation of cancer screening and early detection. A survey conducted by various locally organised cancer registries indicated breast cancer to be the most prevalent cancer among females and the second most common cause of cancer deaths among Pakistani women. Since Pakistani females do not generally engage in screening practices we argue that nurses and lady health workers should team up to educate women for the possible early detection of cancer using Self Breast Examination …

International Law: A Welfarist Approach, Eric A. Posner Jan 2006

International Law: A Welfarist Approach, Eric A. Posner

Articles

This Article evaluates international law from a welfarist perspective. Global welfarism requires that international law advance the well-being of everyone in the world, and scholars influenced by global welfarism and similar cosmopolitan principles have advocated radical restructuring of international law. But global welfarism is subject to several constraints; including (1) heterogeneity of preferences of the world population, which produces the state system; (2) agency costs, which produce imperfect governments; and (3) the problem of collective action. These constraints place limits on what policies motivated by global welfarism can achieve and explain some broad features of international law that otherwise remain …

The Role Of The Judge In The Twenty-First Century, Richard A. Posner Jan 2006

The Role Of The Judge In The Twenty-First Century, Richard A. Posner

Articles

In my youthful, scornful way, I recognized four kinds of judgments; first the cogitative, of and by reflection and logomancy; second, aleatory, of and by the dice; third, intuitive, of and by feeling or "hunching;" and fourth, asinine, of and by an ass; and in that same youthful, scornful way I regarded the last three as only variants of each other, the results of processes all alien to good judges.
