A Socio-Legal Research On Personal Data Protection And Privacy Practices Of Malaysian Organisations, A.S. Abdul Ghani
A Socio-Legal Research On Personal Data Protection And Privacy Practices Of Malaysian Organisations, A.S. Abdul Ghani
Research Publications (2006 to 2010)
This paper describes a qualitative research that was conducted as part of a PhD research on online privacy and the law. The research was conducted on selected public and private organisations in Malaysia that collect and/or process personal data online. The method used is multi-case study and the data are collected by semi-structured interviews. The data are analysed with the aid of a computer assisted qualitative data analysis software (or CAQDAS). This paper will also describe the socto-teqal' significance of this qualitative research as well as lessons learned from conducting the study

Managing Complications Of Radiation Therapy In Head And Neck Cancer Patients: Part Ii. Management Of Radiation-Induced Caries, W.L. Chai, Wei Cheong Ngeow, R. Ramli, R.A. Rahman
Research Publications (2006 to 2010)
Head and neck cancer is becoming a more recognizable pathology to the general population and dentists. The modes of treatment include surgery and/or radiation therapy. Where possible, pretreatment dental assessment shall be provided for these patients before they undergo radiation therapy. There are occasions, however, whereby head and neck cancer patients are not prepared optimally for radiation therapy. Because of this, they succumb to complicated oral complications after radiation therapy. The management of xerostomia has been reviewed in Part I of this series. In this article, the management of dental caries, a sequalae of xerostomia following radiation therapy is reviewed. …

Benjamin Curtis: Top Of The List, R. Owen Williams
Benjamin Curtis: Top Of The List, R. Owen Williams
Chicago-Kent Law Review
Among the many brave and brilliant dissents from the Supreme Court, few are more historically significant than that of Benjamin Curtis in Dred Scott v. Sandford. Earl Maltz insists that the traditional view of Curtis as a dispassionate Justice is incorrect; Curtis is better seen as the "Last Angry Man." This paper considers the famous dissent, the man who wrote it, and the technical analysis Maltz claims as sine qua non to a proper understanding of the opinion.
What Was Taney Thinking? American Indian Citizenship In The Era Of Dred Scott, Frederick E. Hoxie
What Was Taney Thinking? American Indian Citizenship In The Era Of Dred Scott, Frederick E. Hoxie
Chicago-Kent Law Review
Historians have often noted that Chief Justice Taney's decision in Dred Scott juxtaposed a denial of African American rights to citizenship with an assertion that Native Americans could obtain that status. Explaining this apparently inconsistent description of two racial minority groups requires an examination of the history of Native American classification in the law prior to 1857. This article argues that political leaders and judges of Taney's generation were committed to the removal of Indian tribes from eastern states and commonly proposed this removal as a choice between migrating west or dissolving tribal governments in order to remain in the …
Foreign Authority, American Exceptionalism, And The Dred Scott Case, Sarah H. Cleveland
Foreign Authority, American Exceptionalism, And The Dred Scott Case, Sarah H. Cleveland
Chicago-Kent Law Review
One distinctive feature of the Dred Scott decision for modern readers is the extent to which the Supreme Court Justices looked to foreign and international law in support of their decisions. The legal status of a slave who entered a free jurisdiction was a question that had been confronted by many courts at home and abroad, and international law had played an important role in American and European adjudication of slavery questions. The Justices therefore were confronted with the strikingly modern question of the extent to which U.S. law embraced, or distinguished itself from, foreign practice. Arguments from foreign and …

Kairos, Nomos, New Media: Paradox As A Reservoir For Invention, Robert Leston
English Dissertations - Archive
In the wake of the so-called "social turn" in writing studies, the scholarship of invention has enjoyed renewed interest. This dissertation is primarily concerned with invigorating the research of invention by turning towards viable but untapped generative approaches for composing that have been forged by artists working in areas external to composition studies by putting into practice what media theorist Gregory Ulmer calls a "heuretic" approach to invention. (I use the term heuretic to indicate the appropriation of an inventional model from a domain or discipline such as art, though other domains such as engineering would suit just as well.) …
Experimental And Finite Element Based Investigations Of Shear Behavior In Reinforced Concrete Box Culverts, Anil Kumar Garg
Experimental And Finite Element Based Investigations Of Shear Behavior In Reinforced Concrete Box Culverts, Anil Kumar Garg
Civil Engineering Dissertations - Archive
This study evaluates the shear behavior and capacity of the precast concrete box culverts subjected to HS 20 truck wheel load. The most critical culvert behavior was considered by studying culverts subjected to zero depth fill and placed on rigid laboratory floor without bedding material. Three major phases were considered to complete the study, which included: (1) experimental program; (2) finite element modeling; and (3) development of distribution width and the determination of shear capacity. A full-scale experimental testing program was undertaken to perform tests on 24 typical precast concrete box culverts designated as per ASTM C 1433-05 with and …
