Toward A Holistic And Postmodernal Theory Of Change: The Four-Forces Model Of Change As Reflected In Church Growth Movement Literature, Bob Whitesel

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

The purpose of this present study is to form a background from Church Growth Movement literature against which might emerge a contemporary epistemology and model for theories of change and changing. And, since the cultural predilections of postmodernity heavily influence future strategizing, postmodern theoretical understandings will be sought.

"The Fernald Community Health Effects Committee, Inc. (F-CHEC) partnered with the University of Cincinnati Environmental Health Foundation (UEHF) to conduct research aimed at identifying and reviewing existing information on contaminants of water in wells and cisterns in the five-mile exposure domain of the former Fernald uranium processing plant. The F-CHEC and UEHF partnership is hereinafter called the Research Team.

The Research Team determined that the existent information on well use in the five-mile exposure domain did not include either the number or the locations of offsite water wells within the exposure domain. Therefore, it was apparent that this project should …

Report Of The Santa Susana Field Laboratory Advisory Panel, Santa Susana Field Laboratory

Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL)

In 1989, press reports revealed an internal U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) study that found widespread radioactive and chemical contamination at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory. Legislators, responding to community calls for independent health studies in the wake of revelations about the site, arranged for the establishment of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory Advisory Panel, to consist of independent experts from around the country (and one from Britain) as well as community representatives. The legislators directed that the initial studies should be of the workers, as they were likely to have higher exposures.

The legislators who established the Panel had …

The supernova SN 2006aj associated with GRB 060218 is the second-closest GRB-SN observed to date (z =0.033). We present Very Large Telescope, Liverpool Telescope, and Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope multi-color photometry of SN 2006aj. This super-nova is found to be subluminous and rapidly evolving. Its early light curve includes an additional wavelength-dependent component, which can be interpreted as shock break-out. We compare the photometric evolution of multi-band light curves with the corresponding properties of the present sample of more than 10 GRB-SNe with precisely known redshifts. Using host-galaxy extinction measure-ments, we derive extinction-corrected GRB-SN luminosities and place SN 2006aj in …

Putting Humans First?, David Graham, Nathan Nobis Oct 2006

Putting Humans First?, David Graham, Nathan Nobis

Attitudes Towards Animals Collection

In Putting Humans First: Why We Are Nature's Favorite, Tibor Machan argues against moral perspectives that require taking animals' interests seriously. He attempts to defend the status quo regarding routine, harmful uses of animals for food, fashion and experimentation. Graham and Nobis argue that Machan's work fails to resist pro-animal moral conclusions that are supported by a wide range of contemporary ethical arguments.

Quantitative Profiling Of Arabidopsis Polar Glycerolipids In Response To Phosphorus Starvation. Roles Of Phospholipases Dζ1 And Dζ2 In Phosphatidylcholine Hydrolysis And Digalactosyldiacylglycerol Accumulation In Phosphorus-Starved Plants, Xuemin Wang, Maoyin Li, Ruth Welti Oct 2006

Quantitative Profiling Of Arabidopsis Polar Glycerolipids In Response To Phosphorus Starvation. Roles Of Phospholipases Dζ1 And Dζ2 In Phosphatidylcholine Hydrolysis And Digalactosyldiacylglycerol Accumulation In Phosphorus-Starved Plants, Xuemin Wang, Maoyin Li, Ruth Welti

Biology Department Faculty Works

Phosphorus is an essential macronutrient that often limits plant growth and development. Under phosphorus-limited conditions, plants undergo substantial alterations in membrane lipid composition to cope with phosphorus deficiency. To characterize the changes in lipid species and to identify enzymes involved in plant response to phosphorus starvation, 140 molecular species of polar glycerolipids were quantitatively profiled in rosettes and roots of wild-type Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) and phospholipase D knockout mutants pldζ1, pldζ2, and pldζ1pldζ2. In response to phosphorus starvation, the concentration of phospholipids was decreased and that of galactolipids was increased. Phospholipid lost in phosphorus-starved Arabidopsis rosettes was replaced by an …

Measures Of Perceived Credibility Of Blogs: Construct Validation By Lisrel, Uday S. Tate, Elizabeth Alexander, Suneel K. Maheshwari

Management Faculty Research

Predictions are that blogs will be the promotional tool of the future, if not now. The question remains: how credible are blogs as a source of consumer information? How do consumers perceive the credibility of blogs from different sources when making purchase decisions and product evaluations? The primary objective of the present study is to assess validity and reliability of a set of Semantic Differential scales purported to measure perceived credibility of different types of blogs. Confirmatory factor analysis via LISREL8.5 package was used to obtain appropriate statistics for convergent validity, discriminant validity, and composite reliability. In general, the scales …

The Scholarship Of Vietnameseness: The Dialectic Of “National Identity” Between Self And Society In Vietnamese Education, Amber North Oct 2006

The Scholarship Of Vietnameseness: The Dialectic Of “National Identity” Between Self And Society In Vietnamese Education, Amber North

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

This study explores how college aged youth from various regional time and space identities access “national identity” in Vietnam. The study uses a theoretical framework as follows (1) Benedict Anderson’s theory that “nation” is in an “imagined” community (2) Keith Taylor’s theory of how surface orientations of linear time and space do not accurately characterize history. (3) Subaltern Studies: a field of Postcolonial Criticism that considers the alternative historical narratives of subalterns (non-elites, and for our purposes the nationally marginalized). Using this theoretical framework, I then explore how the youth access this “national imagination.” How is it that students connect …

Defining Freedom Of The College Press After "Hosty V. Carter", Jessica B. Lyons Oct 2006

Defining Freedom Of The College Press After "Hosty V. Carter", Jessica B. Lyons

Vanderbilt Law Review

The application of the First Amendment to public universities has long been a source of confusion and frustration for both universities and courts. In particular, application of the First Amendment to student publications such as newspapers, magazines, and yearbooks has led to a great deal of litigation and controversy. The protection afforded by the First Amendment to these publications at the university level is extremely unclear and the circuit courts' inconsistent treatment of the college press has further confused the issue.

How should the First Amendment apply to public universities? An instinctive response is that a college student should enjoy …

The Satanic Whitman: Woman, Nature And The Magic Of Four, D. J. Moores Oct 2006

The Satanic Whitman: Woman, Nature And The Magic Of Four, D. J. Moores

English Faculty Publications

Had the Romantics lived in the twentieth-century and maintained their Romantic sensibility, they might have been Jungians, which is to say, there are a considerable number of parallels between Jungian theory and Romantic aesthetics. According to Jung the aim of all psychoanalytic work is to help the analysand become conscious of his or her entire Self, which includes conscious as well as disowned, unconscious elements. In Jungian theory when ego (conscious awareness) confronts and assimilates shadow (unconsciousness), the result is a revitalization and expansion of Self. Romantics longed for this expanded Self in their frequent transcendent yearnings, concerned as they …

Simple Way For A Successful Path, Km. Nadeera Oct 2006

Simple Way For A Successful Path, Km. Nadeera

Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)

Education is the basic path to create a complete person improving high thinking and analytical skills for solving problems. Certain defects of the science education would be observed in developing countries minimizing the nations’ strength towards the better development. Quality of the science education is the common fact to be considered in developing countries. Most of the developing countries are following western educational systems which are unsuitable for man’s strength in developing countries as a result of the colonization. Exam oriented teaching processes are going on without understanding and applications. Learner centered, activity based science education is unpracticed due to …

Assessing Wavelength Discrimination Abilities In The Zebrafish (Danio Rerio) Using Appetitive Choice Discrimination Learning, Tim Thornberry

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

In the past few decades, the zebrafish has become a popular vertebrate model in various fields of research, especially visual neuroscience, where the versatile zebrafish model has been used for anatomical, physiological, genetic, developmental, and behavioral research. Anatomical and physiological studies have shown that the zebrafish has the necessary mechanisms required for color vision. However, to date, there is no evidence that zebrafish behavior is regulated by color vision. This project used an appetitive choice discrimination paradigm to assess the ability of the zebrafish to modify its behavior based exclusively on color cues. Subjects were conditioned to associate a food …
