The Chameleon Experience: Queer Identity, Mental Health, And Transformation, Cameron Penny Aug 2026

The Chameleon Experience: Queer Identity, Mental Health, And Transformation, Cameron Penny

Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota Journal

In this autoethnographic piece, I examine the correlation between queer identity and mental health through reflective analysis of my own experiences within a Western socio-cultural setting. I expand external perspectives on the queer experience by highlighting the normalization of queer prejudice and its adverse impact on self-image. I share how the religious praxis of Catholicism enforces binary conformity by promoting dichotomous thinking that simultaneously constricts queer expression and subjugates implicit biases. In tandem, I utilize autoethnography as my medium because it provides a unique outlet to raise awareness for chronically stigmatized identities by centering marginalized voices (Atay, 2011; Chavez, 2013). …

Growth, Governance, And Organizational Crisis In Nonprofit Rowing Club: Failures In Leadership In A Growing Organization, Noah Legendre, Ehren R. Green Aug 2026

Growth, Governance, And Organizational Crisis In Nonprofit Rowing Club: Failures In Leadership In A Growing Organization, Noah Legendre, Ehren R. Green

The COSMA Journal

This case explores governance and leadership challenges within a growing nonprofit sport organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Within this case, the Litchberg Valley Rowing Club (LVRC), a rowing organization in a small community, experienced rapid growth in membership, financial resources, and competitive success. Despite this growth, the organization maintained informal governance structures and policies to guide its decision-making. In this case, the board of directors elected to terminate the head coach because of difficult contract negotiations and other issues at hand. This decision was met with public backlash, raising concerns about club leadership and the future of …

Developing An Object Level Understanding Of Sine And Cosine As Ratios And A Coherent Trigonometry, Jeffrey Peter Nair Aug 2026

Developing An Object Level Understanding Of Sine And Cosine As Ratios And A Coherent Trigonometry, Jeffrey Peter Nair

Theses and Dissertations

Solving right-triangle problems as well as integrating right-triangle and circular trigonometry into a coherent understanding are documented challenges for students. Prior research has deeply investigated students constructing ratio meanings for sine and cosine using a circle-first approach, which then can be extended to right triangles. Also, past work has separately documented distinct meanings that are useful for sine and cosine, in addition to the ratio meaning, including as lengths in a unit circle and coordinate points. This study took these existing ideas and put them together into one possible developmental progression, based on APOS theory, where students can learn length, …

Interview With Cecilia 'Sue' Sill, Cecilia 'Sue' Sill, Logan Dovalina

Rio Grande Valley Oral Histories

Cecilia 'Sue' Sill (b. 1939, Woodward, Oklahoma) recounts a life shaped by mobility, scientific curiosity, and engagement with the natural world of South Texas and Mexico. The daughter of a pipeline welder, she moved frequently as a child before settling for a time in Pharr, Texas, in 1950. She later spent roughly forty years in Corpus Christi, where she raised two sons, pursued higher education later in life, and earned a Ph.D. focused on the systematics of Tillandsia (air plants), describing several new species centered in Mexico.

After her divorce in 1990, Sill lived for eight years on a mountainside …

Clinical Practice Guideline For Fall Prevention And Reduction, Wendy Zitzloff Aug 2026

Clinical Practice Guideline For Fall Prevention And Reduction, Wendy Zitzloff

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Falls are a significant concern for residents in long-term care facilities who are 65 years old or older, which places them at a higher risk of injury. The risk of falling is unique to each patient and cumulative with advanced age and complex comorbidities. A Long-Term Care (LTC) Facility in Minnesota had 6.6% of long-stay residents experience a fall resulting in a major injury, higher than the Minnesota average of 4.1%. This Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) outlines foundational components for preventing and reducing falls among geriatric patients in long-term care facilities. The purpose of the CPG is to outline the …

Opioid Overdose Simulation Training For Staff: An Educational Development Project, Brooke Van Buskirk, Tyler Langley, Nancy S. Goldstein

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Outpatient medical facilities have become more likely to encounter in-office emergencies related to opioid overdoses. Literature analysis found gaps in health team response capability in outpatient healthcare settings.1

Our aim was to design and implement an opioid overdose simulation at an outpatient substance use disorder clinic. Literature reviewed found 4 essential themes to guide our curriculum development: simulation training, emergency action protocols, response training and equipment readiness.2,3,4,5 These themes were used to create an algorithm on best-practice for overdose response and guided our simulation development.

A four-step simulation was designed including pre-brief education, low-fidelity mannequin simulation, high-fidelity simulation …

Integrative Evidence For Cryptic Diversity In The Thomomys Mazama Species Complex: Phylogenetics, Cranial Morphometrics, And Ecological Niche Modeling, Jessica Kate St. Michael Aug 2026

Integrative Evidence For Cryptic Diversity In The Thomomys Mazama Species Complex: Phylogenetics, Cranial Morphometrics, And Ecological Niche Modeling, Jessica Kate St. Michael

Dissertations and Theses

The population genetic structure and geographic distribution of the pocket gopher genus Thomomys Wied-Neuwied, 1839, lends itself to speciation events. Conserved morphology, ecological specialization, and high rates of molecular evolution may increase the probability of allopatric speciation, thereby contributing to the presence of morphologically cryptic taxa. In light of these patterns of evolution, we assessed genetic divergence and phylogenetic relationships, cranial morphometric differentiation, and ecological divergence among taxa in the Thomomys mazama species complex to test the hypothesis that T. mazama is a single species. Species delimitation analysis using Bayesian Poisson Tree Processes (bPTP) and data from the mitochondrial cytochrome …

Shadow Learning And Knowledge Redistribution: How Workers Appropriate Generative Ai Outside Formal Organisational Systems, Eduardo Carlos Dittmar, Martin Sposato Aug 2026

Shadow Learning And Knowledge Redistribution: How Workers Appropriate Generative Ai Outside Formal Organisational Systems, Eduardo Carlos Dittmar, Martin Sposato

All Works

Organisations are ceding visibility over how their employees develop knowledge. As generative AI tools become widely accessible, workers are steadily building capabilities and co-producing knowledge through informal AI engagements that operate entirely outside sanctioned training systems. This paper theorises shadow learning, the informal and autonomous appropriation of AI by workers for knowledge expansion beyond managerial design, as a process that fundamentally reconfigures how knowledge authority is distributed in organisations. Integrating critical management learning with sociomaterial and post-human perspectives, and drawing on current debates in AI ethics and human–AI interaction, the paper conceptualises shadow learning through a recursive model of constraint, …

Actionable Hydrologic Data To Information With National Water Model-Based Derived Dataset, Cutting-Edge Data Services, And Agentic Ai System, Sujan Chandra Mondol Aug 2026

Actionable Hydrologic Data To Information With National Water Model-Based Derived Dataset, Cutting-Edge Data Services, And Agentic Ai System, Sujan Chandra Mondol

Theses and Dissertations

Hydrologic data are the cornerstone of many complex hydrologic research and operational workflows that produce useful hydrologic information for water resources decision-making, flood risk communication, and water availability implications. The National Water Model (NWM) is a valuable source of hydrologic data, particularly for its extended coverage of unmonitored streams and the large-scale continuity of hydrologic processes. Precomputed secondary datasets derived from this simulated data, such as streamflow indices, can improve operational efficiency through thresholding. Disseminating the data through modern technologies, such as application programming interfaces, is required for ready integration into applications. However, if extraction requires an intermediate service, there …

"Tithing Is An Insurance Premium": A Framing Analysis Of Speaker Innovation And Diachronic Trends In Latter-Day Saint Religious Discourse, Reid Empey Aug 2026

"Tithing Is An Insurance Premium": A Framing Analysis Of Speaker Innovation And Diachronic Trends In Latter-Day Saint Religious Discourse, Reid Empey

Theses and Dissertations

Religious language relies on shared metaphor and frames that contextualize religious experience and practice. Current approaches to frame semantics (Fillmore 1982) and cognitive metaphor (Lakoff & Johnson 1980) lend important insight into religious language, particularly in describing the role that figurative language serves in a religious speech community. However, a vital component of many religious speech communities is the presence of and engagement with a scriptural canon, which often contains metaphorical and framing language that religious speakers can directly reference. Yet, past conceptualizations of speech communities have not accounted for this engagement with a shared canon. To illustrate the role …

Multi-Band Extinction Modeling In Early-Type Galaxies With Circumnuclear Disks, Nonnie Bash Aug 2026

Multi-Band Extinction Modeling In Early-Type Galaxies With Circumnuclear Disks, Nonnie Bash

Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis, we present a spatially resolved, multi-band dust-attenuation method for correcting the stellar luminosity models used in dynamical supermassive black hole (BH) mass measurements. If uncorrected, dust extinction effects may dominate over other systematic uncertainties when determining the BH mass ($M_\mathrm{BH}$). We expand on a simple dust-attenuation method that treats the circumnuclear disk as a thin dust layer embedded in the galaxy midplane. Using a Multi-Gaussian Expansion, we create a three-dimensional stellar luminosity model to calculate the fractions of stellar light originating in front of and behind the disk along each line of sight. We infer the pixel-by-pixel …

Explicit Writing Instruction Across Content Areas: A Professional Development, Bethany B. Richardson Aug 2026

Explicit Writing Instruction Across Content Areas: A Professional Development, Bethany B. Richardson

Masters Projects

Research shows that writing instruction has diminished in the elementary classroom due to high stakes testing in reading and math.  Writing is a driving force for literacy achievement and should be prioritized.  In order to improve writing instruction, teachers need professional development in explicit instructional strategies for writing in other content areas.  According to cognitive processing theory, students are using multiple cognitive and metacognitive processes to complete a singular writing task.  Using scaffolds like write alouds, mentor texts, and graphic organizers can help teachers support students in their writing. Scaffolding theory suggests that students need high levels of support in …

Multidimensional Impacts Of Insecure Password Workaround Techniques On Modern Organizations, Emmanuel Paintsil Aug 2026

Multidimensional Impacts Of Insecure Password Workaround Techniques On Modern Organizations, Emmanuel Paintsil

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Password workaround (PWWA) behaviors, such as password sharing, credential reuse, and other informal security practices, continue to expose organizations to significant cybersecurity risks. Small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) leaders are particularly vulnerable because they often operate with limited resources while balancing security requirements, regulatory obligations, and operational demands. Guided by Herzberg’s two-factor theory and activity theory. The purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore [CS3.1]strategies SME leaders use to identify, manage, and mitigate the financial, reputational, and regulatory risks associated with PWWA behaviors. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with 10 cybersecurity professionals and organizational leaders who had …

All Decisions

In this Housing Preservation (HP) action, the court granted petitioner's motion to amend the petition to add a harassment claim and to add the Department of Buildings (DOB) as a nominal respondent (the DOB addition had been opposed). The court held that the proposed pleading stated a cognizable claim sounding in landlord-tenant harassment under the Housing Maintenance Code, citing Berg v Chelsea Hotel Owner, LLC, 203 AD3d 484 [1st Dept 2022]. In adding DOB, the court held that given DOB's specialized role in enforcing regulations related to structural stability, joining DOB as a nominal party would promote the public interest …

Eastern 1090 Realty Llc V. Joseph

All Decisions

Landlord moved for leave to reargue the court's prior denial of a default judgment against pseudonymous respondents John Doe and Jane Doe. The court denied reargument, holding that a landlord seeking default judgment against unnamed respondents must still demonstrate due diligence in attempting to identify the individuals by name and provide a description sufficient to fairly apprise them that they are the intended defendants, and that a defaulting party's admission of traversable allegations does not relieve the petitioner of establishing a prima facie case.

Exploring The Definition Of Democracy And Rule Of Law From Afghan Women’S Perspective, Lynda Boswell Aug 2026

Exploring The Definition Of Democracy And Rule Of Law From Afghan Women’S Perspective, Lynda Boswell

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Although the United States funded programs from 2001 to 2021 to promote democracy, the rule of law, and opportunities for Afghan women, existing reports and evaluations focused primarily on expenditures, implementation, outputs, and accountability rather than Afghan women’s perspectives, particularly after the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021. This study addressed that gap by exploring how Afghan women experienced and understood democracy and the rule of law before and after the U.S. withdrawal and how U.S.-supported programs influenced their perceptions and experiences. Guided by theoretical frameworks of democracy and the rule of law as applied in Afghanistan and other …
