Interval-Based Robust Statistical Techniques For Non-Negative Convex Functions, With Application To Timing Analysis Of Computer Chips, Michael Orshansky, Wei-Shen Wang, Martine Ceberio, Gang Xiang
Departmental Technical Reports (CS)
In chip design, one of the main objectives is to decrease its clock cycle. On the design stage, this time is usually estimated by using worst-case (interval) techniques, in which we only use the bounds on the parameters that lead to delays. This analysis does not take into account that the probability of the worst-case values is usually very small; thus, the resulting estimates are over-conservative, leading to unnecessary over-design and under-performance of circuits. If we knew the exact probability distributions of the corresponding parameters, then we could use Monte-Carlo simulations (or the corresponding analytical techniques) to get the desired …

Cultivating Alliances With Other Helping Professionals: Interprofessional Training With The Curriculum, Dr. Jill D. Duba, Susan B. Paez
Counseling & Student Affairs Faculty Publications
Counselor educations are called to provide some kind of interprofessional training so that students are better equipped at working with other helping professionals on various client cases. This article provides several other reasons why interprofessional training is relevant in counselor education. In addition, several interprofessional training strategies are addressed.

Justification for evaluations and evaluation criteria including multicultural considerations are presented. In addition, a summary of evalution procedures being used in counselor education programs are addressed. Finally, areas of further research and implications for training and supervision are noted.
Integration Of Micro Nano And Bio Technologies With Layer -By -Layer Self -Assembly, Dinesh Shankar Kommireddy
Integration Of Micro Nano And Bio Technologies With Layer -By -Layer Self -Assembly, Dinesh Shankar Kommireddy
Doctoral Dissertations
In the past decade, layer-by-layer (LbL) nanoassembly has been used as a tool for immobilization and surface modification of materials with applications in biology and physical sciences. Often, in such applications, LbL assembly is integrated with various techniques to form functional surface coatings and immobilized matrices. In this work, integration of LbL with microfabrication and microfluidics, and tissue engineering are explored. In an effort to integrate microfabrication with LbL nanoassembly, microchannels were fabricated using soft-lithography and the surface of these channels was used for the immobilization of materials using LbL and laminar flow patterning. Synthesis of poly(dimethyldiallyl ammonium chloride)/poly(styrene sulfonate) …

Prediction Of Sediment-Bound Nutrient Delivery From Semi-Arid California Watersheds, Emmanuel Gabet, Noah Fierer, Oliver Chadwick
Prediction Of Sediment-Bound Nutrient Delivery From Semi-Arid California Watersheds, Emmanuel Gabet, Noah Fierer, Oliver Chadwick

Soil carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) are lost from hillslopes in particulate forms through soil erosion. The fate of the eroded C (e.g., sequestration or oxidation) may affect the global C budget, and delivery of N and P to waterbodies can lead to eutrophication. Whereas the magnitude of particulate nutrient losses may be similar to or greater than dissolved losses, it is rarely estimated. We couple a sediment delivery model with measurements of C, N, and P in soil to account explicitly for hillslope sediment transport processes that yield sediment-bound nutrients to fluvial networks. The model is applied …

A Framework For Comparing Requirements Tracing Experiments, Jane Huffman Hayes, Alex Dekhtyar
A Framework For Comparing Requirements Tracing Experiments, Jane Huffman Hayes, Alex Dekhtyar
Computer Science and Software Engineering
The building of traceability matrices by those other than the original developers is an arduous, error prone, prolonged, and labor intensive task. Thus, after-the-fact requirements tracing is a process where the right kind of automation can definitely assist an analyst. Recently, a number of researchers have studied the application of various methods, often based on information retrieval after-the-fact tracing. The studies are diverse enough to warrant a means for comparing them easily as well as for determining areas that require further investigation. To that end, we present here an experimental framework for evaluating requirements tracing and traceability studies. Common methods, …

The Revamped Fisa: Striking A Better Balance Between The Government's Need To Protect Itself And The 4th Amendment, J. Christopher Champion
Vanderbilt Law Review
The investigations of the 9/11 terrorist attacks highlighted a series of lapses in intelligence-sharing within the federal government regarding terrorist operations. One area closely examined by Congress,' the judiciary, and many legal and political commentators is the appropriate scope of intelligence collection within the United States "concerning foreign threats to the nation's security" ("foreign intelligence"). Domestic intelligence collection is a particularly complex sphere of national security as gathering intelligence on American soil requires balancing the privacy rights of individuals guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment against the nation's need to protect itself.
The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 ("FISA") governs …

The Impact Of Insider Trading On Market Liquidity In The Nasdaq Market, Walayet A. Khan, H. Kent Baker, Mukesh Chaudhry, Suneel K. Maheshwari
Accounting Faculty Research
This study examines the relationship between insider trading and market liquidity (spread and depth) of NASDAQ-100 stocks. Tests on an intraday sample of sell trades show no evidence of cross-sectional association between the width of the spread and insider trading, but detect some widening of the spread after the fact. Overall, our results provide mixed evidence on the ability of NASDAQ dealers to unravel informed order flow and adjust spreads accordingly. Their short-term behavior suggests an inability to detect insider trading and widen spreads, but their behavior over time suggests that dealers may attempt to recover what they apparently lose …
