The Anchor, Volume 119.06: October 19, 2005, Hope College

The Anchor: 2005

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Multi-Party Mobilization For Adolescent Literacy In A Rural Area: A Case Study Of Policy Development And Collaboration, Edmund T. Hamann, Julie Meltzer

Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education: Faculty Publications

Between 2001 and 2005, the state of Maine shifted the focus of its statewide high school improvement efforts to include an explicit focus on adolescent literacy. One trigger for that change in focus was a 5-school adolescent literacy initiative previously launched in a rural county under the federal Northeast and Islands Regional Educational Laboratory contract. This monograph describes the multi-party mobilization that led to the creation and implementation of the adolescent literacy project and explains the link between that modest rural effort and the change in state-level reform efforts. The project was designed and implemented at the intersection of what …

Balancing Approaches : Revisiting The Educational Psychology Research On Teaching Students With Learning Difficulties, Louise A. Ellis

Australian Education Review

In most Australian schools, there are significant numbers of students who are failing to learn effectively. They underachieve in all or some of the basic skill areas of the curriculum. Concerns regarding the most appropriate methods with which to address the needs of these students remain widespread amongst teachers. This book examines the findings from local and international evidence-based research, with particular reference to meta-analyses deriving largely from the fields of educational psychology. The author identifies and illustrates methods that are effective for a wide range of students in mainstream classrooms, but which are especially powerful for students with learning …

Back To The Future: Regional Differences In New Mexico Water Rights, G. Emlen Hall

Faculty Scholarship

You could say that I am here this morning as an advance man of tomorrows detailed talks on the active water rights management regulations that were recently adopted by the Office of the State Engineer, because I am going to talk about those a little bit in a historical context.
