The Problem Of New Uses, Rebecca S. Eisenberg

Articles

Discovering new uses for drugs that are already on the market seems like it ought to be the low-lying fruit of biopharmaceutical research and development (R&D). Firms have already made significant investments in developing these drugs and bringing them to market, including testing them in clinical trials, shepherding them through the FDA regulatory approval process, building production facilities, and training sales staff to market them to physicians. Developing The Analytical Point Of View - The Musical 'Agent', Gordon Sly Jan 2005

Developing The Analytical Point Of View - The Musical 'Agent', Gordon Sly

Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy

One of the basic assumptions that underlies the undergraduate theory curricula of most colleges and universities is that instruction in counterpoint, harmony, and form will prepare students to do analysis. In some respects, this assumption is valid: a student who understands how passing tones and suspensions work will stand on more solid ground in a Schenkerian analysis course than one who does not. But for the sort of analysis whose goals are less clearly prescribed - when we ask students to make an argument about a work's striking qualities, its particularly beautiful or eccentric events, about what gives it its …

D. A. Kolb's Theory Of Experiential Learning - Implications For The Development Of Music Theory Instructional Material, Michael Lively

Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy

Undergraduate students often find music theory courses to be among the most difficult and sometimes most frustrating experiences of their early college careers. The difficulty may stem from the tendency of music theory instruction to rely heavily upon the learner's ability to process information with abstract modes of cognition. Many students have either limited experience with abstract intellectual tasks or limited aptitude for cognitive abstraction. This essay will explore the process of adapting music theory instructional material for the learning styles of individual students.

Plaintiff Amy Cheung was involved in a two-car accident with defendant Amber Schlauder. Cheung retained an attorney and sued Schlauder in the Las Vegas Township Justice Court, seeking $5,000 for medical expenses. Schlauder also retained an attorney and filed a motion to move the case from “small claims court to justice’s court” in order for Schlauder to receive a jury trial.2 The motion was denied by the small claims referee on the grounds that small claims court and justice court are one in the same. The referee also found Schlauder liable in the amount of $5,000. Schlauder then filed a …
