The Effects Of A Leadership And Diversity Awareness Program On Adolescents' Attitudes And Behaviors, Eileen M. Lyons
The Effects Of A Leadership And Diversity Awareness Program On Adolescents' Attitudes And Behaviors, Eileen M. Lyons
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
A nonequivalent control-group longitudinal design was used to examine the effects of a leadership and diversity awareness program on adolescents knowledge of discriminatory terms, acceptance of diversity, social competence, feelings of social responsibility, and community involvement. Adolescents who did and did not attend a leadership and diversity awareness program (Anytown) completed three analogous surveys in a 12-month period. Similarly, parents of adolescents who did and did not attend the program reported on their childs social competence and community involvement.
Adolescents who attended the program reported greater increases in their social competence, acceptance of diversity, feelings of social responsibility, and community …
The Relationship Between Hot Flashes And Sleep Quality In Women Being Treated For Breast Cancer, Carly Pabon Rn, Bsn
The Relationship Between Hot Flashes And Sleep Quality In Women Being Treated For Breast Cancer, Carly Pabon Rn, Bsn
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Hot flashes are one of the most bothersome symptoms experienced by women who have undergone breast cancer treatment-induced menopause. This vasomotor symptom has been hypothesized to be responsible for decreased sleep quality. This study further investigated the relationship between hot flashes and sleep quality in this population.
The convenience sample consisted of 30 women being seen at an outpatient clinic in a comprehensive cancer center in southwest Florida. All participants were between the ages of 36-65, had a diagnosis of breast cancer and were currently taking a selective estrogen receptor modulator for at least six weeks. The participants completed the …
Ammonium Distribution And Dynamics In Relation To Biological Production And Physical Environment In The Marguerite Bay Region Of The West Antarctic Peninsula, Yulia Mikhailovna Serebrennikova
Ammonium Distribution And Dynamics In Relation To Biological Production And Physical Environment In The Marguerite Bay Region Of The West Antarctic Peninsula, Yulia Mikhailovna Serebrennikova
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In this study, biogeochemical regimes of Marguerite Bay and the adjacent part of the West Antarctic Peninsula (WAP) continental shelf were delineated through integration of nutrient, hydrographic, and biological measurements obtained during the LTER and SO GLOBEC studies during austral summer, autumn, and winter of 2001 and 2002.
Marguerite Bay biogeochemical regime was found to differ from those of the adjacent WAP continental shelf. In terms of Treguer and Jacques (1992), Marguerite Bay is a combination of Coastal Continental Shelf Zone (CCSZ) and Seasonal Ice Zone (SIZ) distinguished by shallow mixing regime, high primary production and export production. At the …

On Sport and Society
While I was on the road much of the last two weeks a number of things happened that caught my attention and now that I am back at my desk I would like to discuss a few of them. First, and indeed most curious, was the announcement from the NCAA that they would be offering financial rewards to those institutions whose student athletes actually perform as students. What a concept!

The Misery Of Mitra: Considering Criminal Punishment For Computer Crimes, James T. Tsai
The Misery Of Mitra: Considering Criminal Punishment For Computer Crimes, James T. Tsai
ExpressO
This paper analyzes the policies and philosophy of punishment for computer crimes under the post-Sept. 11th regime. I argue that the judicial discourse represented in Mitra represents a willingness to use the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act to go after defendants that cause trouble with critical infrastructures, the so-called “domestic terrorist.” This is manifested in the levels of punishments for such offenses and calls into question whether the traditional theories of punishment are applicable. I argue that as a policy, it makes good sense but the hazy definitions of terrorism may present problems for its success, and instead an approach …

Beyond The “Sanctity Of The Content”: E-Portfolios, Pandeli Glavanis Dr.
Beyond The “Sanctity Of The Content”: E-Portfolios, Pandeli Glavanis Dr.
Faculty Journal Articles
Conventionally teaching takes place by reference to “faculty-centered instruction in the oral tradition” which involves the delivery of content via lectures. This is invariably also accompanied by an emphasis on an instructional discourse which features an almost sacred approach to “content” and thus a preponderance of “listening is learning” as the preferred methodology for teaching. (Oblinger and Rush 1997) In this respect and during the last few decades such conventional teaching methodologies which presume “telling is teaching and listening is learning” have had to face the problem of how to cope with the explosion of “new knowledge” emerging daily from …

Ego-1, A Putative Rna-Dependent Rna Polymerase, Is Required For Heterochromatin Assembly On Unpaired Dna During C. Elegans Meiosis, Eleanor M. Maine, Jessica Hauth, Thomas Ratliff, Valarie E. Vought, Xingyu She, William G. Kelly
Biology - All Scholarship
During meiosis in C. elegans, unpaired chromosomes and chromosomal regions accumulate high levels of histone H3 lysine 9 dimethylation (H3K9me2), a modification associated with facultative heterochromatin assembly and the resulting transcriptional silencing [1, 2]. Meiotic silencing of unpaired DNA may be a widely conserved genome defense mechanism [3–5]. The mechanisms of meiotic silencing remain unclear, although both transcriptional and posttranscriptional processes are implicated [3–5]. Cellular RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RdRPs) function in development and RNA-mediated silencing in many species [3, 6, 7] and in heterochromatin assembly in S. pombe [3, 8]. There are four C. elegans RdRPs, including two with known …

Ethics In Organizations And Measuring The Effectiveness Of Ethics Programs, Deidre K. Rodriguez
Ethics In Organizations And Measuring The Effectiveness Of Ethics Programs, Deidre K. Rodriguez
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
ABC Corporation (ABC) like many corporations, implemented ethics as a major core value and initiative after the highly publicized corporate scandals of the 1990s. ABC currently does not have a consistent way of measuring the effectiveness of the ethics portion of their Ethics and Compliance program. This paper examines the need for a measurement plan and the benefits related to consistently using the plan to measure the effectiveness of the ethics program. Action research is the proposed research method for this project. The Method section of this proposal discusses several data collection techniques including interviews, secondary data source analysis and …
